    PLEASE NOTE: Some of these seem really comparable to products from The Ordinary!
    1) GM Niaminicide and Hyalauronic acid serums are the same size and price as the ones from The Ordinary.
    2) GM Squalane oil is only half the size of the one from The Ordinary, yet costs the same price (15ml versus 30ml, both for $8). Both are from 100% cold-pressed plant sources.
    3) The Ultra-hydrating facial oil (which contains sea buck-thorn & camellia oils) is also half the size of the TO sea buck-thorn oil, yet the TO oil costs only $5 more than the GM oil.
    4) GM Wake Up Eye Serum has caffeine & pumpkin extract and costs $8. TO Caffeine Solution + EGCG serum is the same size and costs $6.70
    5) GM Overnight Exfoliating serum has the same acids in it and costs the same amount as the Peeling Solution from TO - but the acids in the GM serum are in much lower concentrations (presumably since it can be left on overnight, whereas the TO solution is meant only as a short term treatment). So that's really just an issue of personal preference as opposed to quality.
    6) GM Super Peptide Serum contains three peptides and costs $12. TO Buffet + Copper Peptides does cost more than twice as much at $29, but it contains seven peptides plus a probiotic complex. Both are 30ml.

      Thank you I was just about to point pretty much all of that out except TO Lactic Acid 10% for $6.70 is a great over night exfoliant if your too scared to use TO Peeling Solution which can be a little strong. FYI I use the Buffet with the Copper Peptides everyday and yeah it smells like rancid vinegar my skin has never looked so good. I;m a die hard TO user I use 9 different products.

    The Ordinary helped me clear out my skin. It was very badly blemished, acne prone and had open pores for years. Now I can go out without make-up finally. And I am afraid to change my routine. So I will pass this brand. Because if you find a routine that makes your skin look good, you should stick with it.
    Don’t be tempted by new products just because they are new.
    But if you haven’t found what you’ve been looking for or expect more, then try.
    Thanks for the recommendations as always you are so helpful

      I’m the same way, my skin looks so better thanks to The Ordinary that most of the time I wear loose powder and blush when I run errands. I donated my full coverage foundations, I don’t need then anymore. If I stop my routine, after a couple of days I start to break out but as soon as I start again my skin starts to clear up. I’m intrigued by these new products but I’m very apprehensive about changing my routine, I finally have the skin I’ve always wanted and I’m scared to mess it up.

      Sure I will write what I have used but it doesn’t mean it is suitable for you. If you have severe acne, cystic acne please see a dermatologist.
      Face wash
      Clinique anti blemish bar soap applied with sonic brush
      Toner
      Kiehls Blue Herbal Astringent
      Eye cream
      Serums
      The Ordinary Lactic acid (only pm)
      Hyaluronic acid ( am and pm)
      Azelaic acid (only am but I mostly skipped it)
      Lotion
      Kiehl’s Breakout Control Blemish Treatment Facial Lotion (am & pm)
      Hydration
      Dr.Jart Water Drop
      The Ordinary Rose Hip oil (only pm)
      And I used Glamglow mask 1-2 times a week full face or partially.
      This helped me really well but bare in mind you should use SPF 50 when you are in acids. Because they thin out your skin layers to clear the imperfections. Even if it is a rainy gray winter day, don’t skip SPF.
      Also I lessened the days I wore makeup. I try not to eat out. Cook from scratch. Stay away from fat, carb, MSG and GMO’s.
      Also I started doing yoga 🧘‍♀️
      I truly wish this helps you but it may not work for everyone. Don’t be upset and never give up.

      Sami Blair In the morning after I wash my face, I use glycolic acid toner to brighten, then niacinamide, then natural moisturizing factors. At night after I double cleanse, I use Hyaluronic Acid, niacinamide, and a moisturizer(ELF Hello Hydration face cream). If I have any spots I apply a little bit of salicylic acid on them, I don’t like using it all over my face because its super drying. My skin is super oily and prone to acne, and this is what has worked for me. Oh, and don’t forget to wear SPF. ❤️

      The Ordinary's creator, Brandon Truaxe, killed himself some months ago. He was in a legal battle with Lauder because of their hostile takeover of his company. The Ordinary is now owned and operated by Lauder... so you aren't really supporting the company who did it first anymore. Lauder will change the formulas and the prices... that is just what they do. They already own most of the cosmetic and skincare brands out there, anyways. (They did the same thing to Bobbi Brown, fyi. She is no longer affiliated with the brand that has her own name... Lauder squeezed her out then bought off her silence with a settlement and an nda.) I have bought some of the Good Molecules serums and do like them... I just can't figure out who is behind them... the boxes say they are made in Korea and distributed out of Hollywood... I am hoping it is someone unaffiliated with the whole Lauder/Brandon mess.

    Actually, I don't think GM is better than The Ordinary because a lot of GM products are full of essential oils with a high potential to irritate the skin. Since my skin reacts quite often to fragrances I'm not going to try these products. The price difference also depends. It's a bit odd to say GM is cheaper. Overall, it's actually not. And if you react sensitive to fragrances and essential oils stick to The Ordinary. Their products are very mildly formulated and I never had problems with any of them (doesn't mean all TO products are good and effective, because many of them are not!)

  • @jennablue5763
    @jennablue5763 5 лет назад +23

    I just checked the ingredients and those products can't be better than the ordinary, simply because speaking from a chemical point of view while good molecules do contain silicones which help with the absorption of the active compound, they also have an extremely high percentage of phenoxyethanol which can be acne triggening in sensitive skin types.Not only that but often, the product they claim to contain is very low on the ingredient list, which means that there is less than 1% of what they claim the serum has. Also, the exfoliating serum or whatever its called, has a high percentage of alcohol which is not ideal since acids already can dehydrate and sensitize the skin. To me there is no way those products can be better than the ordinary.

Very disappointing when you compare product by product and ingredient by ingredient and come up with a common sense comparison answer. It is not true, TO has wider range and is superior in terms of ingredients list to GM. BUT MOST OF ALL, I've no respect for brands who copy! Deciem founders took massive risk when going off piste from corporate track just to make the products with integrity that are honestly priced for customers. Its very easy to copy, but its hard to turn the whole industry around and come out as a winner with having educated thousands of customers! For this reason alone, I'll always be loyal to TO and won't take any of my money to its copy-brands like the inkey list, good molecules, wisdom garden or whatnot.

  • @marinaalex0510

    I haven't been even able to find Good Molecules independent site. Beautylish site says: "Founded by a team of beauty industry veterans" Names perhaps? Nope. "The idea behind Good Molecules is simple: skincare that works at a fair price" A new idea? Really? Doesn't it sound familiar?
    And from the intro to this video: "Better ingredients. Better results. Lower prices. It’s amazing. While The Ordinary was great..." How are they better? Overnight Exfoliating Treatment along with glycolic and lactic acids contains also alcohol denat and citrus essential oils - it is the recipe for irritation to many. And The Ordinary is not "was" it IS great, the company exists.
    The fact that BeautyLish doesn't sell TO anymore and felt the need to bring a cheap "alternatives" doesn't make them better. I've checked the ingredients list - there aren't multiple ACTIVE ingredients in each product, just more unnecessary sometimes harmful fillers.
    I've built the routine with The Ordinary products that brings results, so you don't fix what works. Others may wish to try new things. All is good.
    But why not to just say "there is a new brand offering affordable products which are good in my opinion and so I recommend it. Why say "better than The Ordinary"? This way it sounds like a consistent effort by part of the influencers of RUclips to convince people to buy things INSTEAD of The Ordinary. After all, when reviewing some new products by let's say Clinique, or Lancome influencers don't say that they are better than Chanel or YSL. Consumers buy what works for them and what they like more. Why try so hard to interrupt the company and all the people working in it to make an honest living? Especially when they do their job well. Very disappointing.

    Nope. I had a look at the peptide serum, and it's not better or more elegantly or more pumped up then TO Buffet serum (it's counterpart that was conceived first). The one in this video/ this line is very heavily preserved (and I'm not referring to EDTA which, as you mention, is not problematic) with ingredients that are problematic according to research. Also, it has an essential oil in it...possibly, at worst, photo toxic and, at best, just irritating for skin. The rest of the line...I don't know, will look closer later. But as far as the peptide serum is concerned, TO Buffet is better. **Just had a look at the hyaluronic acid serum - nope. That ingredient is the end of the list. The acid? Why all the essential oils? That's not elegant and not universal. I still think TO wins. (and I don't even use it.). I'mma pass on recommending this line to anyone.

    And today, one month after Brandon‘s death, the founder of Deciem, he is promoting against The Ordinary. And it is very obvious that Good Molecules is not in any way better than The Ordinary.
    I can totally understand that Wayne does not want to support The Ordinary anymore. Neither I do. Not because of Brandon, may he find peace where he is now. But because of Deciem. Deciem is disloyal to its founder and in my opinion just profit oriented. All of this is so heartbreaking.

    I love that you say you don’t use skincare in the day because everyone else always has a “day routine” and a “night routine.” But my philosophy has always been, treatment at night, prevention in the day. So I have a very detailed and dedicated skincare routine at night, but I only use sunscreen in the day. EVERY DAY. Especially because I use acids and retinols at night and these make the skin more susceptible to sun damage. AND I use a sunscreen from either the UK or Japan because unlike American sunscreens, they actually have not only SPF ratings that rate how much UVB rays are being blocked, but the PA rating that rates the UVA rays (the ones that actually cause aging) as well.
    I don’t understand WHY for years dermatologists have told us to use sunscreen every day to “prevent the signs of aging” when our sunscreens don’t even do that!! Even if they are labeled “broad spectrum” they don’t have enough of or the best ingredients to block those UVA rays. So that’s why I get mine from overseas (thank God for Amazon lol) The one I actually love and have used for years now is the Japanese Bioré Aqua Rich Watery Essence. It literally feels like nothing on the skin, it sinks in in seconds, it doesn’t leave a white cast, it doesn’t have that sunscreen smell, and it’s SPF 50, PA++++. Basically the best sunscreen I’ve ever used. (And it’s pretty cheap too!)

    • @gillianwills9049
      @gillianwills9049 5 лет назад

      In the UK we have laws that prevent inaccurate labelling. An SPF *has* to be thoroughly tested and proven to actually give the protection it's supposed to provide. The UVA portion of the protection is indicated by the star system. It goes up to 5 stars. The SPF rating is the combined protection indicator. In the UK, the UVA protection has to be 20% of the overall SPF.
      You need to be looking at the star rating for UVA.

    • @Luv2LuvEm
      @Luv2LuvEm 5 лет назад +1

      Gillian Wills Yes exactly! We don’t have the star system in the US. We only have the SPF rating & our SPF is only rating the amount of UVB rays that are blocked. We have absolutely no rating system for the UVA rays. It’s unbelievable. From what I’ve read it’s because sunscreens are classified as medical instead of cosmetic and the FDA (Food & Drug Administration) takes FOREVER to test and approve new ingredients. Sometimes a sunscreen is labeled as “broad spectrum” meaning they are SUPPOSED to block both UVA & UVB rays, but since they don’t have any way of rating the amount of UVA rays it’s blocking I don’t trust them. That’s why ever since I learned about this I’ve only ordered my sunscreen from the UK or Japan.

    Thank you for the heads up on GM. I will definitely keep it in mind for future reference. I had never been serious about having a good skin care routine until I clued in to The Ordinary, when the founder Brandon Truaxe's death hit the news. I then realized that affordability was no longer an excuse to avoid these normally very expensive skin care products. Since I have just started with the The Ordinary, it does not make sense for me to explore the GM line without first giving The Ordinary a fair chance to prove itself. Also, I happen to be Canadian living in Toronto where The Ordinary is available in stores here. I can also order from well.ca or directly from Deciem, and thus avoid the need to deal with international shipping and potential import duties. However, I do appreciate you sharing the information about GM in this video. It is also interesting to note that GM is a brand from Korea, an Asian country that is very much into everything to do with the beauty culture.

      To each their own, however these products are not the best, is all I'm saying. Firstly, TO is more transparent about their formulations and they offer a variety of targeted treatments, which is what makes it so special. Their buffet serum is outstanding and very well rounded, the good molecules dupe in comparison is just blah. Their NMF moisturizer is amazing and it's 100ml!! So it's not like all their products are one note, plus sometimes you just need that boost of one specific active! So it's a good thing in my opinion. It's just about finding what works for you, skincare is personal, I don't think one should necessarily make a video about one brand being better than the other 😏

      Same here! As soon as I saw the bergamot oil in one of the ingredients lists I decided I’ll stick with TO thanks!

    Tried and love them all! Its good competition yall.. makes the brands work harder to provide affordable skincare to us consumers! GM is owned by Beautylish though so i'd trust them.

    The Ordinary prices are less than GM actually!

    Judging by the ingredients, these products do not really seem to be better/more interesting than The Ordinary, not sure what those added ingredients are... Watch out for the exfoliating serum, it contains alcohol in what would seem a pretty substantial amount and also citrus oils (which are sensitizing).

    The Ordinary didn't do anything for me sadly. Korean skincare brands are now my holy grail. My skin just loves it and soaks it up.

      Hi, I'm curious about Korean skincare. What brands or products have you found to be effective?

    • @kcsl1980
      @kcsl1980 5 лет назад +6

      @@traceyevansbuhr depends on your skin needs. I'm dry and slightly sensitive (which is why Korean products are good for me, it doesn't set it off). My favourite brands are Swanicoco (their biologia stem cell range is sooo good for general hydration, texture and anti-aging), SanDaWha (camellia cleansing oil is my HG but their aqua toners and creams are also great) and Like Dew (serum and skintoner was good when my skin was flaking and irritated). These brands aren't as well known but they're great for more natural, 'cleaner' ingredients. In general though, Korean products contains less nasties.
      Other brands worth checking out, COSRX (esp for aha/bha stuff) and Neogen (their exfoliating wipes and cleansing balms). Hope this helps!

      @@Sempiternal427 I'm from Australia so I only use Nudie Glow and Glow Picks atm. International, there's Yesstyle and Beauty Tap, but I've never used them sorry. But Yesstyle is a huge well-known site. Hope this helps.
