Very helpful! I almost forgot my earplugs. You don't need a chainsaw. I brought my dad! lol 😂
Haha sawing up the “seating”
Thanks man, awesome video with helpful stuff!
🍻
Glad it helped you out and I hope you get up there this year!
I also like the other tips!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Fantastic, the bug shelter, the lure, the multi pocket organization stuff sack!!!!
That's great! I'm really glad that you got something out of the video and hope you get up there soon!
My father did 38 trips up there over 30 years he never filtered the water. It scared the hell out of me every time I went with him. Never got sick one time.
38 Trips, oh man am I jealous! I'm onboard with you on that one, we hardly bother filtering water anymore if we don't have to. Good to have something in an emergency though.
I paddle out to the middle and fill up the big jug. Its great and never had a problem.
Multi-tool. The rest I did not miss.
Good tips
Have you looked at the Grayl water bottles they are a compact easy to use filtration bottle
Thanks for the tip. I will definitely check that out. I'm always on the lookout for new and cool gear.
Hatchets are the worst thing to bring to the BWCA. Using a hatchet increases chances for injury. I have seen too many people get hurt using hatchets! Watch alone and you will see people hurting themselves with hatchets.
I agree without the proper care a hatchet can be dangerous, but if you take precautions and use it responsibly it can be a valuable asset while camping. I really enjoy the show Alone too! What do you use in place of a hatchet?
X2 on the earplugs. Ive spent well over 500 nights in the park and earplugs help get qualitu sleep
Oh man, over 500 nights in the park! I'm sure you've seen all the lakes by now? Pretty impressive. Thanks for the view and comment!
@@mattwinthewoods ive guided and popped around there most my life on most weekends up until i had kids. Just gettimg back to it now after a hiatus
Damn that’s a sweet saw, I’ve always called them a “Swede saw” though. My old man used to cut trees and that’s what he always called them... doesn’t mean a thing, don’t anyone get bunched up on me now!
🍻
You're very right about the Buck Saw! I just might have to start calling it a "Swede Saw" too.
@@mattwinthewoods okay, so I wasn’t talking out my butt!
🍻
Most people say a Silky Saw is better than the bucksaw if you get the correct model. You can search comparison videos. The people who know how to use it cut twice as fast as the bucksaw.
Thanks for the tip! I've used them before and I may get one myself too. I still love my bucksaw though, but to each their own I guess. Happy Camping!
Always went silky gomboy, just picked up a silky big boy, it's insane.
Yes, a Silky Zubat with the regular teeth... not the cheapest, but by far the best (speaking as a tree pro).
Where do you find that partition stuff sack? Or what it’s official name. Cant find one under that search.
That stuff sack came in a Cairn Subscription Box. It's called a Gobi Gear SegSac. I found this one: www.gobigear.com/product/the-segsac-original/
Great tips do you have any further info on the saw and mosquito tent? Thanks
Hey Brandon. All I can say more about the mosquito net is you should get one. Just got out of the woods yesterday and we used that thing almost every night out of six. It really is a game changer. The saw too, used everyday and love it. Both things are so lightweight and useful, it really pays off to have them as a part of your gear kit.
What was the brand on tbe multitool?
Hello Brendan, it's a GERBER Suspension NXT. Got everything you need build into it. Cheers!
What brand is that mosquito net? Thanks
It is a Sea to Summit: Mosquito Box Net - Double. Make sure it's the double.
what is that last "these guys" thingy?
Deerfly Patches. It's a strip of double-sided tape you stick on the back of your hat to get deer flies.
What buck saw is that?
www.canadianoutdoorequipment.com/bob-dustrude-folding-buck-saw.html That's the saw, though I was able to get mine at the Duluth Pack Store I guess they no longer sell these. Great Saw.
pretty sweet channel man!
Zack Snow I appreciate that man. Thanks for checking it out.
what's the name of the lure?
It's a DT Fat by Rapala. Topwater, not a deep diver. The crawfish color seems to be the best if you can find it.
Fiskars are cheap. Yours has a chip in the edge.
and where can I find it
It's called a DT Fat by Rapala. You'll want the top water one, not a deep diver. Just cast it towards shore and close the bail so that the lure kicks out and doesn't get tangled in the fishing line. Lots of fish over the years on this lure. Cheers!
@@mattwinthewoods thanks for the tip
@@mattwinthewoods where can I find it
@@bushcraftboy6077 I bought my last one at Mill's Fleet Farm. Online is always gonna be your easiest place to find it.
@mattwinthewoods Thanks man
Ben to BWCA 19 times, don’t wast youre time with a hatchet, bring a half sized ax, will change the wood game so much trust me, slides easy on the side of you’re Duluth pack
I've been looking into those for a bit. Any brand you would recommend? And thanks for the comment.
An axe is an accident waiting to happen. Usually got my firewood from a beaver house already cut to size and dried. The beaver was done with it anyway.
@@mattwinthewoods Snow and Nealley make a great 24" axe and it has been in my pack for the last 20 trips, all limbs intact :)
@@marcczapla500 Good to hear you've retained all of your digits! I'll check that axe out. Cheers!
@@arthurbrumagem3844bingo. A saw and a good sized knife to baton wood are all that’s need in the bwca, your not staying anywhere long enough to need to process that much wood.
u didnt bring a fillet knife? ;)
Maybe next video :) Thanks for checking it out.
I have actually see many canoe types who didn’t even fish. Go figure. A fish meal in the BWCA is spectacular
@@arthurbrumagem3844 It isn't a full BWCA trip unless you get to hopefully have a fish fry! Cheers! I hope you got out there recently or hope to!
@@mattwinthewoods 👍
No, you don't need a multitool... you likely already have the bits and need not spend all that money. If you really need pliers and 5" Vice Grip will do. Yes, put your money into box saw, or quality folding puring saw. No, you don't need an axe... select your wood according to your needs and split with the 'quality and approprately size' bush knife. You can live without a hammock. Eye plugs, yes. Partition bag, handy, but whatever. There is no definitive fishing lure, just take a recommended share of reliable ones... and know how to fish them effectively. Bug net is already part of your tent ...you selected the right tent? (Don't go in bug season!). No, you don't any purification kit... you made a fire, you have pans! Save time? What are you doing carry there? Time is what you've got. Less you carry the easier and more enjoyable it gets. Some people got money burning a hole in their pocket though.
It's always interesting to hear what other people's experiences are in life. It sounds like you know what you like. I appreciate the comment!
@@mattwinthewoods And at this point in the comments Matt there are some interesting points made. Having travelled lightweight in various formats, I have learned to shed trinketry. There are many 'nice things that could be helpful'... even essential during certain seasons. But for me in the BW, sooner rather that later you are going to have to pick it all up and cart it down a portage ...where the GAME CHANGER is not having to bear the weight of something only you might use. Good posting Matt, as it provokes focus. Different folk have different priorities for their BW experience, so..?
