Oud Taqsim Analysis: Mohamed El Qasabgi - Bayati تقاسيم عود مقام بياتي - محمد القصبجي

Basic analysis of oud Taqsim (improvisation) in maqam Bayati by the great Egyptian oud player Mohamed El Qasabgi. Recording has been re-tuned so that the open strings match standard modern tuning to make it easier for students to learn the phrases.
Analysis focuses on the ajnas (jins, s.) - melodic cells that are combined to make up the maqam, showing the sayr (path) and modulations of the taqsim.

This is bayati on G (aka bayat nawa) played on an oud tuned G A d g c' f' (original recording was approximately 1/2 step down). If your oud doesn't use the high f', you can still play most of it, or you can play it down a fourth as bayati on D so that it is more similar to how Qasabgi played it.
