Hey Navid, I have an older Oud at my house. It was passed down to me from my father. It was made in 2003 by a luthier in Kuwait. I was wondering what your thoughts are on learning to play Oud on an older Oud like that. It is in excellent condition, has amazing sound, and has low action height, but the strings are really old and in bad condition. Some tuning pegs are also kind of loose too. I want to learn on this Oud though because it is from my family, but I am scared I don't know how to care for an older Oud properly.
You should start by trying to tune the Oud, but don't tune it to the standard string tuning. Tune it a little lower than usual. For example, instead of CFADgc (low string to high string), tune it to Bb Eb G C f Bb. It has been sitting around for a long time so you might want to ease it back in gradually. If you need my help, maybe book a free consultation with me here: calendly.com/oud-lessons/consultation It might be better to just start with a new set of strings.
Glad you are still making videos.
