One of my favorites! Grandma always cooked them, and I was happy because my sisters did not care for them - but grandma and I said there was more for us!
Sautee like spinach... separate thick stems from leaves and put first in pan... they tale a bit longer. Then when done... a Lil lemon... Delish. I dont peel beets either. Just scrub and take excess roots off
Delicious! I came across your video as I was preparing a shopping list and was bored with the usual vegetables. This not only reminded me how much I love beets, but gave me a new way to prepare them. I usually roast them whole and season them afterwards. This was seriously good, indeed! Thanks for the suggestion. This won't be the last time I'll do this.
I bet these are great. I've cooked beets on the bbq like you would a potato and they came out great aswell. I think people might eat more beets if they discovered how good they can taste.
Love roasted beets, such great flavor!! Boiling takes away so much! Hope you all try them this way. Was raised on store canned beets but after eating some fresh- how wonderful. Grow my own now.
Grilled beets have the best flavour. When they're boiled, all the nutrients end up in the water. My fav variety of beets is Cylindra. They're long, cylindrical in shape, crisp and don't get woody & are just perfect for canning, if you like pickled beets.
sauté beet greens with eggs for a tasty breakfast! or u can also freeze beet greeens to add to soups in winter for a spinach substitute, they hold up better structurally in a soup and have a more mild flavor than spinach for those who dont like bitter!
I pickle them. I make borsht. I boil them and make salad. Now I'll try this one also. Thx!!😊 Looks like a good side for fish or chicken. I'd try with a little lemon on top
You can put them in boiling water for a few minutes before cooking for tendering them slightly. Dry with paper and add spices/oil after it, you can add spices even in to water. Cook in the owen. That trick will significantly reduce the time of cooking in owen (about 2 times)...
You can get seeds for what’s known as winter beets - they’re a longer season growing beet. They’re huge, sweeter and good keepers. Or just let the regular summer beets grow more by thinning out the beets when smaller.
@ I grew in my garden for many years three varieties of beets. Long Season and Lutz Green Leaf were planted early spring and not taken out for my root cellars in October- November (SE Minnesota). I grew Detroit Dark Red (heirloom not the improved) for earlier eating and canning. The Long Season and Lutz were big ugly rough looking but kept thru till planting again next year’s garden. They were very tender and sweeter despite their ugly look. Hope this gives you more variety to look for. I’m 74 and was gardening from 20-70 yrs. Had to quit, and let my son do it. Love the recipe… I learned that way from my daughter in law using olive oil. Happy gardening and cooking. Many wonderful memories I have … also teaching others gardening, root cellaring. Those winter keepers made great Borscht Stew. 😋
I just use a scouring pad on the skins, after trimming any hard areas off. Shallow fry/saute them in my cast iron pan. Salt them as I go along. This way you can remove each piece when its cooked as inevitably they don't all cook at the same speed. I have no idea why people boil beets. It gets rid of all the flavor. his way, and the way in the video results in sweet, salty,, savory beets, far superior to any other way
The secret is not what but when you eat. I wait until my glucose is low and I treat myself with something sweet. You can make this one when yours is a little low
@ Very interesting ! Will share this with friends. However, I only eat every 24 hours, so……. Hey, DeKalb Gal ? I am a DeKalb gas, too.. I realize there are DeKalb’s all over the country, but mine is in Georgia. Thank you for your advice. If I ever stop the I.F., I will try this method !
Garlic is great too...ginger...yummy Only use butter. Or organic tallow [yes animal fats] duck, ghee.. non seed oils No soy...crisco...corn oil...most oils they push on us is machine ultra refined to get rid of the stink...
John, you've been lied to by a con artist selling snake oil. Here is video is full of actual scientific evidence that will set you straight. Good luck. ruclips.net/video/M8tzaXQH1G4/видео.html

Looks really good, and so simple. I'll try this one. Thanks.
Enjoy!
as much as i love beets, i love the leaves just as much - if you like spinach, you'll love beet leaves!
One of my favorites! Grandma always cooked them, and I was happy because my sisters did not care for them - but grandma and I said there was more for us!

Thanks, great video. Will grow beets next year!
Happy gardening!
Thank. This is 1 of my favorites. I bake them the same way. Other times I add parsnips, turnips, carrots, onion wedges. YUM 😋
Parsnips and turnips sound great. Happy cooking!

Canned beets are boiled, very different.

You need to eat the stems. They are delicious
Thanks!

What variety are the larger beets you harvested that's an amazing size from a home garden
They are all the same variety, some just grow bigger than others. Spacing has a lot to do with size.
@@homecookingwithtom But what variety?

I don't know what variety these are. You can just read the information on the seed packets, they usually say what size to expect.

Agreed!
I am difinetly going to try it with ginger and sweet peppers. Not a fan of anything spicy.
Great recipe but don’t use unhealthy Canola oil, use avocado oil instead.
Show me the evidence, please.
How do you get the red stain off of your hand?

I love love love beets. EXCEPT my diabetes detests what happens when eating beets.

Organic Beets and oil.?
All beets are organic. Every one of them. As are all vegetables.
Garlic is great too...ginger...yummy Only use butter. Or organic tallow [yes animal fats] duck, ghee.. non seed oils No soy...crisco...corn oil...most oils they push on us is machine ultra refined to get rid of the stink...
The beets, *Tom* are indeed seriously good. However, your canola oil is seriously baaaad!

Canola oil is the worst. Shouldn't even be in anyone's kitchen
