Many thanks for this and your other content. After a 15 or so year hiatus doing other things, I'm finding your work a fabulous resource for dipping my toe back into the water. Cheers!
Gettin back into my DT and this is great inspiration! Would love to see a video on the DT as a drum machine _and_ a midi brain for pads/arps/bass, etc. that aren't necessarily other Elektron boxes.
Great programming on the fly, perfect tutorial for DT and drums in general. Beat is dope. And, this is the Ghost demo I was looking for! Wanted to use it for this very purpose (end of chain) and was excited about it but other demos left me unconvinced. Cheers!
Just ordered one of these yesterday, great little primer though I have little idea of what you're doing when you're clicking various buttons in click succession. Not complaining of course. Dope beat.
@@LiamKillen Cheers. By the way, if I may; do you have any suggestions for an alternative pedal to the Ghost for use with the Digitakt? I'm pretty new to this + I don't have the funds for that. I'm going to hold off for a while anyway, but if there's something for about... a third or a fourth of the price, that would be good. Used is fine.
Hey thanks a lot Pretty much all of the samples that I work with now are my own - and i'm in the process of releasing the platform on which they'll all be available - should be out very soon actually :-)
In your experience (talking to everybody here), from a live performance prospective would you go with a Digitakt or a tr8s? Talking modifying petterns on the fly and reallt play the drum machine
Jo Liam, really nice this basic Digitakt Video. Still watching your content for months now. Love my TR-6S and got a used Digitakt now. It's amazing! But... I'm missing jamming with the master effects. Are there other classic effects devices which makes sense to the Digitakt? Any budget friendly? I wish to have the Roland master effects on it. 😅
My favourite master FX machine hands down is the RMX-1000 - although it's not super budget friendly , I personally think it's worth the investment- here's a full video on how it works: ruclips.net/video/OwTLnQ9VmX0/видео.htmlsi=0e2VCC047Z5kor3w
Last step would be to program modulation in DT via MIDI, to apply the FX you want in the amount you want exactly when you want. that ghost pedal has been in my wish list for a while...
Great tips! Thanks! I'm a montrealer as well and wonder if you perform live sometimes? Sorry, I'm not on instagram or discord and there is no info on your site. Cheers!
An improvement to digitakt would be about the sample selection. Instead of an aggregated sample list, I would like to have sample list per individual tracks. This would make it feel more like a drum machine. I also would not have to scroll through irrelevant sounds and a long list.
I always enjoy it when you incorporate your drumming experience into your videos. Being a drummer myself, I find it very inspiring. With a groove like that, you just need a couple more elements and you have a beat that can shake a club. Btw, if you're not familiar with kink303 I recommend checking out his videos. He's another groove master I admire!
What's the stand you're using for the Digitakt? Thx for another great video. Like that you're showing how to use classic gear, not only pushing buying new ones.
And are these drums which you’re processing simply the ones that already come with the digitakt? … and do you offer private digitakt lessons or a course? Thanks again!
These are all samples that i've found elsewhere - you can sample any one shots with the Digitakt which is what I love about it. I'm def open to book a consultation in regards to a lesson with the Digitakt - here's more info on that incase you're interested: www.liamkillen.com/consultation
I think you're mixing up the Digitakt with the Syntakt ! The overall mix is stereo though, so if you add delay / reverb / panning to any of your samples that will all come out in stereo.
@@LiamKillen i was very mistaken, im still learning about these things in general, i thought since they were degraded to mono they would come out as mono, thank you so much!
As a new Digitakt user who refuses to read the manual, I am both happy to see that my first explorations actually make sense and excited to see what other wonders this little box holds in store.
Maybe they will make an optional firmware update for ghost so the dry stays 100% until you pass 12oclock. Hit them up and ask for it! I have some reverb pedals that do it and it’s sooo good for hardware jams and performances.
Are you ever worried about the mono downgrade? I've just bought mine yesterday and I'm very carefuly picking my mon samples. :D It'd be great to know how to downgrades.
The tactile nature and quick access to parameters has always attracted me to the DT but can I justify the cost? The buttons really add to the overall feel of the instrument, but that's not my primary concern. What alternative options do I have for a similar less menu divey sequencer with as much or similar parameters to each sound? I have an MPC but it's super 'extra' on the steps to get to the point youd get on a DT in 5 mins.
This groove is nastyyyy! I think the whole internet is trying to brainwash me to buy a Digitakt 😁 Haha. I don't really need it, but it looks so fuuuuuun. Might need to try and make a Drum Rack template to mimic the DT (which is probably pretty impossible haha). I make a lot of neo-soul and West Coast G-funk beats, but I've been taking a lot of notes from "IDM," techno, and house lately. 📜✍🏼 Thanks for the video!
Why would you need stereo samples? You can add space with panning and other effects, I’m willing to bet you couldn’t even tell the difference in a mix. Full stereo workflow is overrated imo

Love the digitakt virus combo. The eight midi tracks and 16 multitimbral of virus fits very well.
Great video, I've also just been focusing on just drums with my Digitakt so it's great to see how you're doing it. Thanks Liam

One of the best sequencers in the game.

MkII

Are you ever worried about the mono downgrade? I've just bought mine yesterday and I'm very carefuly picking my mon samples. :D It'd be great to know how to downgrades.
I don’t mind because the output is stereo so any FX you add to drums will be stereoized

DT seems like fun but I can't get with the mono samples thing. I have the ST and DN but this one doesn't work in my head
I think it still works really well personally.
Why would you need stereo samples? You can add space with panning and other effects, I’m willing to bet you couldn’t even tell the difference in a mix. Full stereo workflow is overrated imo
You can have stereo by using 2 tracks. Separate your stereo file in 2 mono and download it in 2 DT tracks
Bro tweaking😅
😏
This seems like an excuse for an ad, not gonna lie mate. Nothing new here
You’re the first to think so according to this comment section
Mono is a drawback, but dont they get output back to stereo? I mean I run my DT stereo out into my Octatrack stereo ins, so…
Yeah that output is stereo so if you add FX / panning it gives you a stereo image of mono samples. I actually don’t mind
