I had to look up what kind though. At times it sounded tenor and at times it sounded alto. It's a tenor. Pink Floyd used saxes quite often IIRC, Dave Parry playing them all on the studio versions I believe.
It hits people from that generation, (myself included), a little different because the cash registers at stores actually sounded like that. This brings back a lot of memories.
And only a few years later you would watch the fingers fly ( often a complete blur) from the person behind the counter as they input every individual number that every Item cost . $1.50 would be 4 inputs of the keys.
Remember the registers that had the glass on top and the numbers would pup up inside it. The machine had that big key on the front that the people would push usually with the side of their hand or the heel of their hand.
My personal favorite is "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" (all parts!). It's timeless, and is a showcase of their instrumental prowess. One of the greatest songs of all time, imho.
My generation grew up in a era with the BEST MUSIC .. BEST TV .. BEST FILMS .. BEST MUSCLE CARS and CHEVY VANS .. KEGGERS, PONIES 'Baby Millers', 'MICKEY'S BIGMOUTHS', GOO BUD & SKUNK WEED and REALLY! Just the BEST DAMN TIMES OF OUR LIVES!
I'm from 47 and our vibrant new sexuality being of the Baby boomers and through the sixties romance was upermost in most of us and our passion created the best music ever. There is other inspired music just not mainstream, current. i think that 69 was a trigger year with Woodstock and all, kids on the road. Mass migration to the country from the cities to build communes and get on with pioneer style lives, celebrating and making music.
If you're looking for suggestions for an entire album to react to, Animals is where it's at. That one is probably one of the most introspective looks at modern society ever done.
LOL, I have no clue about what you just posted or what it means. but,, as you may have guessed, I am not a musician but I sure do enjoy Pink Floyd and have since the early 70's.
@@irocker350 You can tap your foot 7 beats per measure (just count to seven and then start over) during most of the song, but changes to 4 beats per measure (count to 4 and repeat) like most of your rock songs at the beginning of the guitar solo.

"Echoes" is their greatest song, although "Pillow of Winds" runs a close 2nd, as it is their most psychedelic ... Such range and diversity from a single band!!! Amazing 🤯
@@metalmark1214 I'm saying that I am missing being young. Remember if you had a dollar as a kid , you could get a candy bar and a soda? Those were great times , but as a kid you only had some chores , homework and play outside. Dunno how hard it was for parents. I know now. Have a good one dude.
That bass-line and sax solo is what makes it even more dynamic. It is a message of the corruption of money, like you said. The opening sound effects is part of how Darkside of the Moon is a concept album. Just like with "Time" using the clocks and bells.
Great reaction and wow it's really tough to pick a single song, but if hard pressed I'd go with "Dogs" off of animals. Thing is, all of their albums are concept albums, so it's tough to separate songs out like that. Animals is my favorite album by them though and Dogs is my favorite from that album. Though, we're really slicing it thin between `favorite` and second through about twentieth because there's about twenty honorable mentions, this being one of them.
The talking voices on this album was Roger Waters wrote down a bunch of questions and just ask them to random people. One was Jerry the Irish doorman Paul McCartneys band Wings was recording there too. That was Paul's wife Linda who said cruising for a bruising, she was the only American of the bunch.
It's hard to pick favorites from PF's amazing catalog, but top of the heap for me is Echoes. Others include Shine On You Crazy Diamond, High Hopes, Sorrow, One Of These Days, and On The Turning Away.
I think I've mentioned this, somewhere at least. Side 1 is about your life as seen internally. Side 2 is about the external influences on that life. As far as a stand alone song goes, I think Echoes from the Meddle album is my standout. It indicated the shift that the Floyd was going through. The live version at Pompeii is the best, but the song is split into two sections.
DSOTM is about the human experience. From birth to death and everything in between. There are too many amazing PF songs to pick "a favorite", but "Brain Damage" and "Eclipse" (have to listen to both together) is definitely one of the greatest. It's about mental illness and how society deals with it.
Grew up with this and it's always woven into part of my soul. If it matters to you, much of the song is in a prog rock beat, 7's, highly utilized by Rush and King Crimson for example. And it just makes it kick that much harder when it hits a straight 8 later in the soloing.
Thanks for your reaction--Interesting fact: if you watch the official video from Another brick in the wall part 2, you'll see a teacher mocking a little boy because he writes poetry in a notebook. The teacher reads the poem to the entire classroom, and they are lyrics from the song money. Have a nice day. And you're right, it's saxophone & not a guitar. Easy sound to recognize. Favorite by Pink Floyd ??--a tie between time & Interstellar Overdrive.
If pink Floyd coined 'cruisin for a bruisin', they may have also started ebonics and double negatives, which from that same song they say 'we don't need no education'.
Favourite of all time, among so many absolutely fantastic songs, would have to be "Sorrow". Favourite version, from the pulse album. BEST LIVE ALBUM EVER.
Wandered through this again and excellent observations. Really cool insights. I love how the sax solo is more like someone thrashing about in fear and panic, but still there's this kind of cool energy to it, and then when it shifts gears into the guitar solo, it really does feel like it's shifting perspective to something that's much more confident and assured
The sounds you hear at the beginning, the coins chinking, the till, the fruit machine etc were all individually recorded, then the tapes all joined together, and to get them onto the record apparently the tape loop was stretched across the studio around various mic stands. There are 7 distinct sounds, which informed the time signature.
about the theme of the album, this was in the time of sides of a disc. So from Speak to Me/Breathe until The Great Gig in the Sky the main theme is the passage of time, in Speak to Me we hear a lot of sounds that represents the life, and in the end someone is born, we hear about a mother kinda giving advices to her newborn, about how we live in a rush pursuing nothing, just to die with the regrets of not having noticed the important things along the way. The Death marks the end of side A in The Great Gig. Money starts the B-Side, where PF just dissect life, finding motives for that way of living of A-Side. that's why theme changes from Money foward
It's difficult to name a single favorite, but I think I will go with "Cymbaline" from the soundtrack to the film "More". 2nd favorite "Wish You Were Here", 3rd "One of These Days".
The bit at the end spoken is interspersed throughout the album. A group of people at the recording studio were asked random questions and recorded responses edited by snippets into the album.
Yep, the entire album was, get really stoned, put on the headphones and go for a trip. The other one on my headphone/stoner list is Days of the Future Passed, by The Moody Blues
All the themes of human experience are covered by the album. That is why it went on to become one of the most influential albums of all time. It resonates across all demographics. From Breath down to Eclipse/Brain Damage (can't wait until you experience the last track), it encompasses all of our collective drives.
Yes its a sax, its a session jazz blower called Richard Parry who played sax on the pulse concerts and a few other floyd tracks like shine on you crazy diamond and one of these days. Favourite song is between Sorrow and on turning away
Pink Floyd - When The Tigers Broke Free! It was on the movie soundtrack for the Wall and it was the first song that was in the movie (if memory serves me correctly) but it was not on the original "The Wall" album! It did show up later in a remastered version of their album "The Final Cut" though! It's a bit of an obscure song of theirs but it is powerful nonetheless! I think you would enjoy it!
"It's a gas" was (slightly outdated at the time) slang back then, meaning "it's great!!!". Nothing to do with gasoline or propane. The internet tells me that a recent version would be "It's lit", though I'm sure that's now outdated, too.
There are people answering questions throughout this album. The band got as many people as they could to sit in a recording booth to answer questions on cue cards. The people talking at the end of this song are answering the questions "When was the last time you thumped someone?," "Why did you do it?," "Did you think you were in the right?," and "Do you still think you were in the right?"
Favorite Pink Floyd song of all time? That’s like asking to choose a favorite child But the first song that came to mind was Mother from The Wall album
The Sax is in 7/8 and when it switches to the guitar solo the time changes to 4/4 (rock city as one journalist put it) This was not uncommon among British prog rock bands. I think the greatest song writing achievement at the time was Robbery, Assault and Battery by Genesis which had everything that was good about prog rock in a simple form that the common man could sing.
Yes the person that made the video needed to tell us in the beginning that sound we heard was music & they don't know the difference between a sax & guitar.
Great song and reaction as that epic album continues from death to money, one eternally relevant subject to another, why this album has Never stopped selling. Has been back in the charts, been there for close to half its 50 years and 14 in a row to start. Put that in your pipe and smoke it! For my best Pink Floyd song, I have 3, you can put them in the order you prefer: Echoes Time Comfortably Numb Depending on how I feel I could have them in any order, they are all equally great for me. As for live tracks, the very best for me is them Live at Pompeii, Echoes opened and closed the concert movie, and the Pulse Concert (I saw that tour) Comfortably Numb is one of the best live tracks for everything, the sound, lights, effects and especially Gilmour's guitar solo, always mentioned for best tracks ever. Enjoy your Pink Floyd Journey, I'll be around for the ride! 🎵🎸🎤🎹🎷🎶
This the third song from Dark Side of the Moon I've watched your reaction to, and it's heartwarming to see a person of your age be so affected by the music I grew up with! I like your examinations of both the music and the messaging. Thank you for being such a mature, empathetic and articulate young woman. You give us hope for the future. You have another subscriber! Favorite Pink Floyd song... Dogs from the Animals album. I have a feeling you'll be moved by it.
Oh, I got few favorite songs, "Shine on You Crazy Diamond", "Dogs" and "Echoes"...over all fave album is "Animals" (which has 'Dogs' in it) and of course "Dark Side of the Moon" which we're listening along with you.
A Pink Floyd classic. This song reflects what the members of Pink Floyd are today, haha, they became what they criticized: businessmen, who forgot music as art and now it's business, just that.
As I mentioned in a previous comment, the focus of this album revolves around: (What drives people crazy). (MONEY); If love, or lack of money can drive people crazy. (US AND THEM); If the abusive hierarchy between color, power or wealth between US AND THEM can drive people crazy. (ANY COLOR YOU LIKE); If the illusion of being able to choose can drive people crazy. (BRAIN DAMAGE); If the fear of losing their mind can drive people crazy. (ECLIPSE); If the fact that our life seems to be limited to, (All that you touch - And all that you see...) can drive people crazy. So be aware that even the brightness of the sun may be eclipsed by the Dark Side of the Moon.
It was a thing in the 70s to blend the sax-vocal-guitar-synth ect. into one for a :moment" or morel Let them fool your ear...roll with it. (I can't type) lol
I just stumbled to your channel today. Thank you for not pausing it in the middle of a David Gilmour guitar solo. You are well versed in the ways of properly reacting to Pink Floyd ❤
I saw Floyd at the helLA SportsArena in '75, and I was VERY high -- the only one in my group that didn't nod off from the brownies during the concert... And, I can confirm, LillyJane that, yes, it is definitely a sax!
The School teacher reads one of these lines when Pink was daydreaming and writing lyrics in the Movie " The Wall". But of course any PF fan would know this😊
The thing that's different about this song is that the music up until the guitar solo (including the sax solo) is in a time signature of 7:4 (that is 7 beats in a bar) then during the guitar solo it's in 4: 4 (that is 4 beats in a bar) until the verse starts again and it's back to 7:4.
LOL, I laughed so hard when it said "guitar solo" where as it was a saxophone playing, but of course the guitar solo came next. You got good ears Lilly. Great reaction, I know you'll love the last four tunes from the album. See you next time, peace. ✌✌❤
Next must be SHINE ON YOU CRQZY DIAMOND parts 1-5 off of the Wish You Were Here album. Amazing songwriting and arrangement. Gilmore's guitar parts are STUNNING
Yep the album The Dark Side of the Moon is an audio Bible for modern life. It still rings true even after 50 years and will continue until the rise of the machines (so another couple of years if we are lucky) 🤣🤣🤣
The entire saying about money being the root of all evil is "Love of money, is the root of all evil." Money is just an object it can't really be evil or good, it's the love of the object that is evil.
Thanks for another great reaction video. It’s a treat to get your impressions about such an amazing band. Saying which one is my favorite song of all time by Pink Floyd is almost impossible as there are so many masterpieces in their discography. But to choose one, it must be Wish You Were Here for it’s the most beautiful for me, and I can’t help to get emotional every time I listen to it. 🥰
After playing guitar for years I decided to buy a bass and found I really enjoyed it too. One of the first basslines I HAD to learn was this song. Incredibly fun to play. Favourite PF song is difficult, I personally love "Hey You" but all time fav may have to be Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Parts I - V particularly).
My favorite is the next song on this album. Us and Them (love the sax). Looking forward to your reaction. BTW Hilarious watching your eyes go left and right as the cash register sound moved from either side. Another example of why Pink Floyd, and this album in particular, should be listened to through headphones. Thanks for sharing. 😘
I’ve listened to this so much growing up, I thought your perspective was so interesting comparing the saxophone and guitar solos, thank you for giving me a new perspective on one of my favorite songs by Pink Floyd!
Cool reaction Lily Jane! I liked your interpretation of the sax and 🎸 solos. The root of all evil today. Perhaps?? This song of course is very old but they realized so much. Thx for your reactions to PF. My favorite Floyd song is "Echoes". Very long piece however.
Lilly, I'm in my mid 60's now, and I really dig seeing your younger generation enjoying the tunes I grew too. Love your channel. Keep up the great work young lady. Your Mom and Dad must be so proud of you. I know I am. ❤
Hard to pick a favorite Pink Floyd song but one I highly recommend is 'Pigs (Three Different Ones)' from their Animals album. It's a long song but well worth listen. A lot going on in that song.
I concur. PF has made a lot of great music. But, 'Pigs (Three Different Ones)' is at the top of the heap for me. It takes me to a place no other song ever has. 'Money' is a close second!
As someone who has listened to this for 50 years it is indeed a saxophone. 😁
Was there even a question?
Whoever did those lyrics screwed up, because that's a saxophone solo and a small guitar solo right after it.
I had to look up what kind though. At times it sounded tenor and at times it sounded alto. It's a tenor. Pink Floyd used saxes quite often IIRC, Dave Parry playing them all on the studio versions I believe.
Yes, the great Dave Parry, he was awesome when I saw him. He, Bobby Keys and Chris Wood do it on the sax for me.
@@dillonsronce2583 lol. "small guitar solo".

Shine on You Crazy Diamond reigns supreme but Money certainly has an iconic base line.
Love all Pink Floyd, Animals being my favorite. Saw that tour in Chicago. 1977 I believe it was. DOGS! Best song I believe
Shine on you crazy diamond
I just stumbled to your channel today. Thank you for not pausing it in the middle of a David Gilmour guitar solo. You are well versed in the ways of properly reacting to Pink Floyd ❤
Pink Floyd has so many fantastic songs, but I guess my favorite is Shine On You Crazy Diamond.
My Favorite Pink Floyd Song is "One Slip" off of the "Momentary Lapse Of Reason" Album.
I saw Floyd at the helLA SportsArena in '75, and I was VERY high -- the only one in my group that didn't nod off from the brownies during the concert...
And, I can confirm, LillyJane that, yes, it is definitely a sax!
Favorite Pink Floyd song, too many, perhaps all 9 sections of Shine on you Crazy Diamond.
The School teacher reads one of these lines when Pink was daydreaming and writing lyrics in the Movie " The Wall".
But of course any PF fan would know this😊
I LOVED your interpretation of the solos! PF are masters at evoking emotion but I never considered it the way you did
The thing that's different about this song is that the music up until the guitar solo (including the sax solo) is in a time signature of 7:4 (that is 7 beats in a bar) then during the guitar solo it's in 4: 4 (that is 4 beats in a bar) until the verse starts again and it's back to 7:4.
We saw Pink Floyd in 1994 in Vancouver BC The best concert, amazing laser show floating pigs all of it
Now that you mentioned it, that is a helluva saxophone solo.
High Hopes is a fantastic song to listen to.
My favorite song is a toss up between Dogs and shine on you crazy Diamond. Love your reactions on Pink Floyd so far.
Richard Parry played Sax on Money
Too many great songs to name a favorite, but I really like on the turning away and echoes from Pompeii
LOL, I laughed so hard when it said "guitar solo" where as it was a saxophone playing, but of course the guitar solo came next. You got good ears Lilly. Great reaction, I know you'll love the last four tunes from the album. See you next time, peace. ✌✌❤
My favorite Pink Floyd song is " Great Gig in the Sky" because of the primal screams of Claire Torry.
Next must be SHINE ON YOU CRQZY DIAMOND parts 1-5 off of the Wish You Were Here album. Amazing songwriting and arrangement. Gilmore's guitar parts are STUNNING
They are, but Rick Wrights' keyboard is HAUNTING!
Yep the album The Dark Side of the Moon is an audio Bible for modern life. It still rings true even after 50 years and will continue until the rise of the machines (so another couple of years if we are lucky) 🤣🤣🤣
cruising for a bruising, gliding for a hiding lol
The entire saying about money being the root of all evil is "Love of money, is the root of all evil." Money is just an object it can't really be evil or good, it's the love of the object that is evil.
The term 'it's a gas' is British slang for a good time. And yes that's one of the best Sax solos in Rock.
YES IT DID
Thanks for another great reaction video.
Listen to the entire Animals album. Dogs, Pigs (Three Different Ones), and Sheep are fantastic songs.
ITS LIKE TRYING TO TELL WHATS UR FAVORITE THING TO EAT LOL? THERE ARE SO MANY SONGS I LOVE FROM THEM I COULDNT DO IT
My favorite is the next song on this album.
Very long piece however.
not just about helping someone else but about how it prevents you from other good things in life
Lilly, I'm in my mid 60's now, and I really dig seeing your younger generation enjoying the tunes I grew too. Love your channel. Keep up the great work young lady. Your Mom and Dad must be so proud of you. I know I am. ❤
"Fearless" is a great song.
My fav Floyd album and song!
favourite song from them is the entire album of 'wish you were here' // 'us and Them' from DSOTM , but too many individual songs to mention just one.
My all time favorite song is Time which you have already done. I am looking forward to your reaction to Us and Them which is an amazing song.
AND 2 different musical time signatures ! ....the sax solo was in 7/4 time then it switched to 4/4 for the guitar.....seemlessly of course
