It's a tenor sax on this one. Dick Parry was the session musician that did their sax work in the 70s and 90s. He switches from one sax to another mid-solo during shine on you crazy diamond pts 1-5.
That good transition is owed to David Gilmour not being able to come up with a solo in the original 7/4 timing of the song. So they transition to 4/4 for his solo. 😂
I picked up this record when it came out 50 years ago. I was a sophomore in high school, had a Panasonic AM/FM/8-track with a turntable and a pair of 8" speakers. Had a set of Koss headphones with a 15' extension cable, so I could lay out on the bed to listen. Put it on the player, put on the headphones, turned on my black light, turned off the other lights and enjoyed "Dark Side of the Moon" for the first time.

Of course I was already a fan after their album "The Piper at the Gates of Dawn", but hearing the complete chaotic album "A Saucerful of Secrets" nailed for me. I presume Wings were around the studio when Floyd were recording and Roger had this idea to give everyone cards with questions on to answer and it's these answers that are heard at various points in the album. Definitely think you should react to"Time". I would suggest that if you do, react to a lyric video. As I've gotten older I've really come to appreciate the meaning within Pink Floyd songs.
Alexis picked up on the Irish accent at the end, I'm impressed. That was actually Henry McCullough, who was Paul McCartney's guitarist in Wings at the time. McCullough's spoken words "I don't know; I was really drunk at the time" can be heard on the Pink Floyd album The Dark Side of the Moon (1973), at the end of the song "Money". He was recalling a fight he had the night before with his wife.
Idea: play her "Shine On You Crazy Diamond I-V" Dim the lights (close the curtains), get her relaxed (close her eyes) and avoid distractions. If that doesn't float her boat then move on to other music.
The actual quote is “The love of money is the root of all evil” Money is just a tool. It’s a thing it doesn’t have agency it is neither good nor bad. It is just a tool that we use for the exchange of goods and services. Nothing more nothing less. How people perceive and manipulate others using it. The song has a lot to say about that.
Lyrically, I think that Alexis would love 'Time' and 'Wish You Were Here'. Also, one of my favorites that I don't see suggested very often is "On The Turning Away". There are so many interesting songs, but I wouldn't go too far down the trippy rabbit hole too quickly. I agree with everyone that some of their albums are so much better if you could do an entire album reaction, maybe even as a live show?
As a sax player I can say the thing hanging over the bell of the horn is just a mic. All of the sound effects that you hear is a combination of embouchure and air support along with a trick we use to make a sax growl...
Dick Parry was the name of the sax player. He plays the tenor sax which is the lower register of the alto. If you wanna hear his best in my opinion, listen to Shine on you crazy diamond Parts 1-5.
I'd like to see you react to the live version of "Great Gig in the Sky" or two songs off of the last album with Roger Waters "The Final Cut". These songs would be "Southampton Dock" and or "The Gunner's Dream".
My Mum raised my siblings and I with great music. I was a teenager in the 90s my favourite bands were Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, The Doors, Fleetwood Mac. Lots of old bands but I also loved grunge.
It's said that the LOVE of money is the root of all evil. Money is unfortunately the vehicle we use for the transfer of our energy and therefore necessary to live in the current paradigm. Only people I know who think money is evil are poor in their mindset. Broke is a temporary circumstance, poor is an attitude. Second-best bass line ever, BTW. I Want You (She's So Heavy) by the Beatles is #1. Great reviews, guys.

I LOVED THIS SONG. After 1976, This was the song I used when making stereo components (especially speakers) buying decisions. I lived for music, and this was my favorite album. I feel so lucky to have been around during the 60's and 70's! There was one guy that played the sax, and for this song, he wore two, an Alto and a Soprano so good ear! I am trying to remember a bad Pink Floyd song - Oh yeah , there aren't any!
Dick Parry is the master saxophonist playing on the various Pink Floyd albums. He’s not part of the band. The following track after Money is ‘Us and Them’, which you started to hear with the church like organ music. Dick Parry plays two saxophones in this one. If you were to watch the RUclips video, you’d see him swing off the saxophone around his neck to grab the other to play the instrument. Simply awesome.
An important and striking element of Dark Side is the recorded and recurring voices from start to finish. They provide sometimes evasive, sometimes explicit answers to the themes addressed in the songs. During the recording sessions, cards with questions centered on the synopsis of the record such as "When was last time you thumped someone?" or "Are you afraid of dying?", were placed on a desk at the entrance to the studio 3. All the regulars parading at Abbey Road were then invited to turn over one of these cards and provide an answer. At the end of Money, we can hear guitarist Henry McCullough who provided the phrase "I don't know, I was really drunk at the time”.
I do like some of their songs, but I too have never been massively into them - and then got stalked by their music for quite some time a couple of years ago, playing a lot whenever I'd leave my house 😅 Like from that car driving past behind me while I was sitting on a bench somewhere, with 🎵"Moneeeyyy!!!!"🎵 blasting out its open window 😄
Loved the use of this song in the 2003 Edition of "The Italian Job", it fit the movie so well. Plus, I love the song. So many fantastic elements, lyrics, bass, guitar, sax and rock solid drums behind it all!!
That "transition" from the sax solo to the lead guitar has a story behind it. Oddly, this song is written in a very unusual 7/4 time signature. Gilmore couldn't play what he considered a good lead guitar riff in 7/4 time. So, that "transition" you refer to, changes the 7/4 time to a basic 4/4 time signature. Gilmore then comes in and shreds. When his solo is over, they transition back to the 7/4.
In my opinion "Dark side of the moon" is the best PF album. It's the most important. A century work which will be remembered in centuries, I guess. "The wall" is only the most successfull.

The sax player, Dick Perry, played many solo's on their various albums and does an exceptional job! Another thing to remember is this album was made back in the early 70s and there were no computers to do all the timing for mixing and background sounds, so it had to be done by hand and tape. Creating the overall song was an act of composing a masterpiece in its own right. That's why this album stayed on the top 100 charts for over 14 years! Well, that and the fact that the music is incredible! The voices you heard towards the end of the song were voices from people they had interviewed prior to mixing the album. The Irish man you heard was the doorman from Abbey Road studios during the time Pink Floyd made this song. If you are interested, you should see the video "The Making of Dark Side of the Moon" because it goes behind the scenes and gives all these incredible facts and tidbits.

This is an... unusual... format to be sure. You alluded to listening to Pink Floyd before, but I couldn't find any video about that. There are so many songs on this album that need to be heard it would be sad if this was the only one you ever listened to. At the very least you have to listen to the very emotional "The Great Gig in the Sky" with Clare Tory, the album version of course. Alexis was right of course...Roger Waters is Irish.
There was a man who had a NDE and he saw hell for 3 Days… there was a section in hell of people that sold their soul for money and they was constantly throwing up GOLD (as a punishment) and THIS SONG right here was being played over and over and over again… so its kind off hard for me too forget or enjoying this song now 😅😅
Pink Floyd released six or seven albums prior to Dark Side of the Moon. There were no really great songs, but there were no really bad songs. It sounded like they were experimenting. Dark Side of the Moon was the culmination of all that experimentation.

What a lovely young woman. Mum and dad did a good job. I've got one of those things on my wrist as well. Every so often an old injury plays up and I strap it on and it helps. All the best, from England.
Buy her proper headphones for Pete's sake ... She is using Beats, half of the songs you are reacting to has to sound like muddy bloated shiet.
Sennheiser hd 600 at least ...
Otherwise nice reaction:)
Good work.
Saw it down in the comments.. from CorruptSnypah..
Candy Dulfur and Dave Stewart (Eurythmics) perform a duet, Sax and guitar, that will have you looking for an 'after glow' cigarette. It is the sexist thing I've ever heard. Their live performance is also well done.
Ciao
A month ago my 13 year old daughter wore a Dark Side of the Moon t-shirt:
Me: Do you know what Pink Floyd is?
She: No, but these t-shirts are really cool, what it is dad?
Me: Great old band and you should give it a listen
She: Yup, I'll look into it
Saxophone, huh? How about some INXS' "Never Tear Us Apart"? She'd love that!
both were used, alto and tenor, his name is Dick Parry......watch the live version.....with Gilmour......great react as always
Gotto introduce Alexis to Comfortably numb! Scoob music then and now.
LOl I love how Alexis ask are they Irish Burch Leans over English. why we Americans lol says English I'm bad about it but we should say British lol. I Love it Burch now I don't feel as Bad lol
I can't believe theres no reaction video to Comfortably Numb... Pompeii is my favourite version (ruclips.net/video/LTseTg48568/видео.html) but the Pulse version (ruclips.net/video/1VjgyLpWkRI/видео.html) is awesome too, along with the album version...
Please do a reaction to one of the live versions!
This is the poem from the wall another brick in the wall video.
Just let her discover the song on her own, don't tell her anything about it.
There was a man who had a NDE and he saw hell for 3 Days… there was a section in hell of people that sold their soul for money and they was constantly throwing up GOLD (as a punishment) and THIS SONG right here was being played over and over and over again… so its kind off hard for me too forget or enjoying this song now 😅😅
Likes the sax??!!!. You need to do a Steely Dan song then! Babylon Sisters comes to mind.
Pink Floyd released six or seven albums prior to Dark Side of the Moon. There were no really great songs, but there were no really bad songs. It sounded like they were experimenting. Dark Side of the Moon was the culmination of all that experimentation.
Hi ! I'm Horacio from Argentina, will tou be interested to react to some bands feom my country?
Just let me know and I'll send you the names.
Regards from Rosario.
Money's claim to fame is the fact that the hook is in 7/4 time....very unusual for "rock music"
Hello I just found you guys and been clicking and watching different videos

Us and them should be next or pompeii 1970 echoes or Shine on you crazy diamond
If you have not done a reaction already to Gerry Rafferty's 'Baker Street", You would like I think.
Great song. Hate that they used it on TV a lot. When he talks about buying a football team, he means soccer I assume. You shouldn't oversell it to Alexis. Might set expectations too high. What's with women and saxophones? They all seem to turn to jello.
Saxophone? Try Baker Street by Gerry Rafferty or Papa Was a Rolling Stone by Rare Earth.
There's a misquote from the New Testament
They sing "Money, so they say is the root of all evil today"
But the NT says it's the LOVE of money that's the root of all evil as money can't be evil as it's just a thing
Just found your channel today. Has Alexis been introduced to Jethro Tell yet?
Please react to Tina S who has played a cover of the guitar solo of Through the Fire and Flames by Dragon Force. I guarantee she will blow you away!
Actually, I think that the old guy who was answering the question IS Irish.
