I have cured myself, I was discharged last month. I am on Keto, lift weights 3-4 times a week, don't drink coffee after 10am, no alcohol, no milk. Weight dropped, lost a lot of weight without further attacks, now fit as a fiddle !!
Such a helpful video in understanding gout from a historical dietary perspective. Our respective chessboards that you mention at the end is a good way to think of this. Eliminating spinach, chard, alcohol, sandwich meats (even so-called organic or minimally processed or uncured), bread, and mackerel has nearly eliminated my gout attacks. These seem to be the main contributors for me. I started to feel a little creakiness in the joints after downing baskets of blueberries which I believed to be anti-inflammatory. I found out they were high in oxalates and once I stopped eating them, felt much better. My mother loves to garden and forage and regularly serves purslane, which is also high in oxalates. I also noticed the initial joint creakiness with purslane. Get the main triggers off the board, then fine tuning has worked for me.
Dr. Karl - a great presentation. I would add that we humans for the most part seem to be blind followers. We don't understand the contents and effects of what we are eating and drinking, we just consume because everyone else is consuming. Follow the herd. Right towards misery. The typical working person is more interested in chasing the dollar only to retire as a physical wreck from eating out of convenience and partying their stress away.. Honestly, it takes the free time of retirement to wake up someone's curiosity about nutrition. Sadly it's often too late. We are up against huge commercial food corporations, addictive substances, nonstop barrage advertising and following the herd. I watch the young mindlessly destroy themselves and their kids, it's very sad. You confront them and immediately you are up against their addictions. Their receivers shut down and they dismiss all arguments. No matter how proven, logical, caring, etc... Of course I'm not just talking about gout but all the health maladies that will be present in addition to high UA. Exacerbated by genetics and people lack of interest in their own DNA. We need to figure out an effective way to awaken everyone. Thanks.

Timely topic for me. Usually I eat a very low carb diet with no added sugar. I’m training for a marathon that I will run in just a few days. As my weekly running mileage increased I started to add carbs to compensate for the calorie deficit, taking as much as 150 g of sugar in gels on long runs. I was shocked when I started to experience gout symptoms. Fortunately I recognized the problem quickly and corrected my diet and symptoms waned in a few days. Seems like there should be warning labels on runners gels warning of the danger of carbotoxicity.
Gout sufferer for 10+ years, last year has been awful. Currently on allopurinol/colchicine. Monthly labs to monitor uric acid, liver enzymes etc. Began eating meat, eggs, butter and some dairy for about 10 days. Labwork completed today, ALT up to 142, last month was 87. Uric acid up to 6, last month was 4.9. Should I be concerned over high ALT?
Yes. definitely. If you dietary change is the only change you have done since last your last blood work then stop that even though the dairy butter and eggs should not have effected your labs. Track your diet, and get a UA meter to be able to track you Uric acid more closely.
@Dr Karl Goldkamp - Keto Naturopath Podcast Thank you. Also drinking one packet of LMNT electrolytes once per day. 1000mg of salt each. Will stop taking all supplements and see if that helps.
Dr Cywes had a good video about experiences with his patients. Some people have high uric acid with OMAD but by eating 2 or 3 meals their protein digestion improves and uric acid drops.
Just don't do OMAD everyday, too much fasting can cause other issues. pick 2 days a week to 3 meals a day. Best to cycle everything including supplements. Everything in moderation. cheers.
Hello Dr. Goldkamp. I’d like to ask about your thoughts on the gut microbiome. You make good sense about how evolution has seriously altered our diets and indeed damaged us. Grains, sugars, refined carbs, alcohol etc. All of which can be shown to contribute to hyperuricemia & hence an increase in gout sufferers. How about the gut? Isn’t it conceivable that these elements have also impacted our overall gut health? That we’ve become Uric acid harvesters. I myself find my Uric acid remains elevated. I do time-restricted eating, 1 piece of fruit a day (usually an avocado), no refined carbs, I’ve lost significant weight though still in the obese category, yet my Uric acid levels remain elevated. Im at a point where I suspect my gut microbiome needs attention. Have you any thoughts on this area of investigation as a means to control SUA?
I would think, if you are like your image of 'The Hulk' in terms of muscle mass that will be a big componet, also being heavy in terms of being over weight does have a factor as well. Re the gut, It is in a way of course it would because 1/3 of our uric acid is excreted from the body via the gut. As to what specifically, that's why I talked about antibiotics in the last video as well. But really anything the compromises our gut's ability to excrete UA is a possible cultprit and by extention any bowel disorder or disease will do that as well. Glucose levels and by extension Insulin levels are important to know as well as .... of course sucrose and HFCS must be identified as well so the obvious isn't overlooked.
Our good bugs are disappearing fast cause by toxins that also helps us neutralise stones in our body, milk also interacting with other minerals also one of the contributing factors of stones. When our bodies becomes toxic and acidic we can not simply eliminate toxins when the body is in acidic state
My uric acid was 4.5. I ate sardines for breakfast two days in a row. Gout attack right foot. I don't use alcohol and I don't eat fruit or vegetables. Must be just the purines. Just measured uric acid again. 4.5 with some gout in my right foot. Sardines are high omega 3. Very confusing, as I don't understand based upon what your saying, why I have a gout attack.
possibly. Track you diet in something like cronometer (free) and consider tracking your UA levels as well. You will in the very least begin to see what are your most likely culprits.
@@zachary813 It's a process for sure. For some the 'dietary purines' are the trigger. Of course that is on top of what else is driving their endogenous purine production. The omega 3 in the sardines is really all relative to your current omega 6/3 ratio. That ratio has to be a nearly consistent level of 2 to 1 or less.
@@DrKarlGoldkamp-KetoNaturopath I don't measure ratios. But some years ago I heard Dr. Ken Berry say it was fructose that caused gout, so I quit the morning apple and the gout in my knuckle went away. As I said, other day sardines for two days brought it to my foot. Now it's going away.
Identify the things that deplete your liver of ATP and remove them from your diet. that opens the door to a more comprehensive perspective including level of personal stress and conspicuous enviromental toxins. That's the short answer.
Awsomeness as always. Already have the Fora 6 meter, just ordered the UA strips. Thanks so much. So fruit is a problem but cherries help with gout WTH!
I’m surprised … sugarcane in India in ancient India… was consumed as sugarcane juice & jaggery was prepared from it to be used as sweetner…. Many ayurvedic medicines used jaggery to hide bitter taste of the medicines… So sugarcane can’t be blamed for gout… it’s the way you process the sugarcane juice …or else all Indians would have had gout..😳
You statement is actually quite incorrect. Their insulin resistance and arthritic incidence is very high. Add to that heart disease, diabetes, dementia and on it goes. Absolutely as can the ketogenic diet. But, with Keto eventually your UA will return to it previous level after you kidney have adjusted.
