The only honorable thing I’ve seen with Jorah is this. He left Longclaw behind. He didn’t take it into exile which would have kept him and his wife rich for years. I really hate him.
He also constantly blames his greedy wife. But if you listen to what he says, she thought and he pretended to be someone he wasn't after he won the tourney. So he had to keep up the facade. That wasn't her fault. I'm curious if what he says happened to her is the truth. I listen to the books on two different channels. Last Seen Ahorse and DavidreadsASoIaF, and there are people that believe Dany is leading Jorah on..reading comments on there and on reactions made me realize how differently so many people think in general about characters. Everyone hates Joffery though.
My favorite Jorah moment is the widow of the Waterfront totally humiliating him in Volantis, she can see his hypocrisy and call him out, I love it!! I love the slap too, and I love when she said to him to stop trying to get every man they meet away from her, he is always trying to make her trust in him only. His second wife was 16,(he was already over 30), and she was given to him a price bc he won the tourney, they never met before and barely talk. She was so young and romantic and at first probably thought that was like something from the songs, but the truth of his situation was NOT what she expected. And he kept blaming her for his exile like she made the decision to sell people to slavery, not him. He used his money on her but he was the one with all control like any husband in that world, he made all the decisions. I just hate him, lol!
Clearly at some point they decided they didn't want to include the whole fAegon storyline and thus weren't going to include Jon Connington but they still wanted that vibe so they just....made show-Jorah into Jon Connington instead. The whole mashing up of two characters worked really well (at least to me) with Edric Storm and Gendry, so they just felt like they could do it all the time. Make Sansa Jeyne Pool! Make Jon Snow fAegon! Make Jorah Jon Con! PERFECT SOLUTION, WHAT COULD POSSIBLY GO WRONG
I think that come the end of the series I'd like to see Jorah at least make a change in some way, for better or worse. A massive thing about George's characters is that a lot of them are very flawed people, and some are even outright detestable, and yet they are often written in ways that make us sympathise with them. (I.e. Tyrion in Dance is nearing on a villain at this point, and yet he's still someone we care about.) With Jorah in the books, he's gruff, somewhat honourable in places, and loyal to Danaerys, but he's also very very creepy and it makes you cringe to read him forcing himself on her. That being said and as horrible as it is, I'd like to see him either find a more wholesome redemption arc in coming back to Dany and devoting himself for dignified reasons, or I'd want him to go off the deep end in jealousy and turn into a villain. As much as we need to make it clear that certain behaviours need to be condemned in fictional characters, it's all too easy to lose sight of why it often makes them a good character in the first place. Remember, you don't need to like a character to find them interesting (Looking at you Cersei).
Back in 2015 I adopted a kitten, he was a curious and explorative little dude. Back in 2015 there was a meme about a character named Jorah and how he was an explorah. In 2025 I have re-read the books and realize I have a cat named after a pdf file.
Yeah we need to be careful when it comes to naming children or pets after characters we like because we don’t know if the characters are just a creep or a sexual predator against both women and young girls.

My issue with jorah is in his backstory, Jorah sold two poachers into slavery to some tyroshi and that somehow filled his coffers for a while. But for that to be true a tyroshi must have traveled to dorne, the reach, the westerlands, the iron islands, and almost all of the north, then all the way back and then why were the slavers on Bear island? it wasn't for wildling slaves, slavers dont star doing that until Dany ruins Slavers Bay
My last Dany chapter i read was the one that ended with „mhysa” but i do can tell he is different from book (the forced kiss on ship THE FUCK WAS THAT) 6:44 i just got spoiled 😶🌫️
I love your content, but as a writer myself, I have to take issue with you attributing the sanitizing of the characters purely to the showrunners and who they identify with or like. I have worked in television. I guaran-damn-tee you, the writers could have fought like hell to keep Jorah a creepy pedophile. and the network still would have said no. The show costs a bazillion dollars. They're not gonna unnecessarily risk losing a big portion of their audience for a nuance that is ultimately not that essential to the story. As someone who has routinely had their ideas shot down by concerns of "likeability," it irks me when people assume that everything that ends up on the screen is exactly what the writer wanted. Not even powerful HBO showrunners get to do whatever they want to do. The people paying the bills have the final say.
I think that in the books, especially if they have the Jon Dany romance then Jon will definitely kill him, partly from Jon liking Dany and Jon having the Mormont ancestral sword
If GRRM had characterized Jorah more like TV Jorah, I could see Jorah killing Dany at the end of Dream, since he might be afraid of a war between her and Jon’s supporters and the Mormonts getting wiped out. Hence the betrayal for love.
Honestly, I feel like Jorah was set up when it came to having to flee Westeros because if you look at the map it really doesn’t make sense for a slaver to be anywhere near Bear Isle and the fact that Ned Stark found out about it so soon, and given enough proof to warrant Ned to go over there and behead him. Too suspicious.
On the contrary I do feel a lot of sympathy for him. Which is why pairing with Tyrion work so well. You have two anti heroes who suffered a great deal of injustice by the world. They are tragic figures but they are also pathetic and responsible for their current situation. Will they continue on a dark path or maybe a redemption ? Nothing ever that simple but one thing is for sure they are very compelling characters.
I LOVE show-Jorah but I end up going on a rant about him whenever I see comments on Tumblr or Reddit saying he was Dany's moral compass & kept her "violent impulses" in check. Even show-Jorah, as great a character as he is, is not a good person. He's on Daario's level. Ignoring his time spying, he was okay with Drogo's army slaughtering & gang raping villages & selling women to Slaver's Bay. He tried for weeks to get Dany to buy a slave army. He was annoyed she wanted to use his flask to give water to a dying slave. He didn't see the point of freeing Yunkai since they weren't getting anything out of it.
When i first read the dany chapter I was like oh... this is different
@@emanuelgonzalez7213 yuuuuup. almost instantly i remember thinking how much more predatory he felt 😬
What got me was when I realized the Dany and Drogo wedding night was very different from how the show depicted it.

reading Tyrion's chapters outside Meereen I honestly forget that Jorah even exists.
Talk about book euron vs the show! They really changed him for the worst

I absolutely cannot stand Cersei, but I love her chapters, she’s an incredibly interesting character and being inside of her mind is wild!

Major L maybe start calling him Jonah? He might not notice

Yes in the books Jorah Mormont is creep.

Jon taking his sword his love his life would be awesome tbh

I hate book Jorah, when I saw this video and knew I have to watch!!!!

When I see a dude that looks like YOU calling some other dude a creep, my hypocrisy meter goes off.
lol says the anonymous blank profile 😂 sure, Jan.
