VERY Helpful! We bought a Highlander just about a month ago and we have been SO confused by the buttons and the screens. My wife just called me (from the car) saying I HATE THIS CAR! because we just can't figure it all out. There are too many buttons/options and ZERO help from Toyota. My blood pressure has dropped watching your video (not really, but you get the idea) and I'm sure hers will as well. Thank you again!
Great run-through of all the features. I am an old school guy, worried about all the keys and features, but your video saved a wealth of time. Toyota has to do such videos to save everybody's time or has to recommend watching your videos. Thanks a ton!!!
Fantastic video. Just brought my 2023 Highlander XLE home and this really helped me learn everything quickly! It was very thorough and most appreciated! Thank you!
I love watching your video to learn how to use bell and whistle! Just took 23’ hybrid Limited home so I’ll watch this again and again to get used to it! Thank you, Brian!!
Thanks so much! One thing I am unclear on is how to use the good-old-fashioned AM/FM radio tuner. But I saw where that was on the Toyota interface and I think I can figure it out. Thanks again!

I can faintly hear it near the MID area. The screen shows me it is reading it back, i just can't hear it. I noticed the microphone on my MID shows it's crossed out. I was able to make it work once but can't figure how to again. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Just came home with a '24 Grand Highlander which has the same or very similar infotainment system. Question: Is there a way to autolock the car when you walk away? Also, a couple complaints, the wireless android auto disconnects constantly which makes it nearly useless. Too bad, I was looking forward to this feature. Wired works fine. Also, the lane departure assist function doesnt alway work. While testing, there are times when nothing happens when the car crosses the center lines. Weird. Overall - Love the car.
Great video man! I was having difficulty with the rear vent controls and this video explained it better than most! Others gloss over it making it seem so simple but that’s not always the case. It seems simple now that I understand it! Lol great tutorial 👍🏻
Thank you very much for this video. We had the misfortune to get stuck with a Highlander from Enterprise rental with no instructions whatsoever on its operation. It was a nightmare trying to do the simplest thing at night while driving from the airport in a new city. Nobody needs all this crap on a car. What a waste of money. After your video at least we were able to survive until our trip was over.
Hi Brian, Two ?’s: 1. Why doesn’t my cell connect to car speaker when I receive a call? (I have to switch to car speaker from my cell each call… a bit dangerous) I think somehow it lost connection? 2. When I use auto-start- why does car turn off when I open the door? Thank you
How can I unlock the back doors when I open the door handle as I approach. Do I have to unlock from drivers side door ? My 2019 Highlander opened the back doors automatically. Please advise. Thanks for a great video .
Either hold your hand on the driver door handle for 4 seconds, or just open the front passenger door, or go to settings and vehicle customize to set the 4 door unlock as default.
Great question I don’t think you can adjust that. I could be wrong. But if you look at it right after shutting the engine and don’t open the door, it lasts longer.
Thanks. Great info. I want to turn off the high pitched beeping or at least lower the volume when close to an object or changing the settings. Is that in the Toyota app under ‘general’?
Is there a setting to keep the north arrow up all the time in the navigation system? I don't like it spinning I want it to stay static with north up all the time.
Yes you can change that on the integrated nav or CarPlay just hit the compass symbol. On the integrated nav I believe you have to change it in the nav settings
Excellent presentation. Very informative. Thank you. Question: how can I play my ipod in the 23 XLE H'lander? Do I have to download any apps? Pls advice. Thx much. JD
Hmm that’s strange. I would try disconnecting and reconnecting your account. If that doesn’t work, I’d stop by the dealer to have your sales person assist you.
Fantastic demo thank you! The only things IMO that were overlooked is how to rearrange and choose what apps you have showing in CarPlay, are controlled from the phone. Also how to get to the standard FM radio. I haven’t spent much time with mine yet, but if memory serves me correctly it’s a bit convoluted getting to the radio as well as no way to put a hot button for it on the CarPlay screen. As I write this another would be how to set favorites in radio.
New engine is fine for what the Highlander is made to do. I’m biased towards V6 power. Ride quality was great just like 2022. Wind noise is not bad at all. Quiet to me.
Hi, very informative video ty, question: is there a way to turn OFF the auto shut off/start when coming to stop signs, i seen theres normal and Extended but was wondering if theres a hidden option to turn it off permanently?
yes i know of this, but was wondering if theres a way to stop this feature permanently since its just an annoyance, was really hoping this vehicle wouldnt of added this *sigh*@@brianruperti
First time Toyota Highlander purchaser. Thanks for the video, but one question (at least) remains: The power mirrors on the Limited trim level automatically pull in when the vehicle is locked. But is there a way to pull them in (either via a setting or manually) prior to driving into what can be a somewhat narrow garage?
Hey welcome to the family! If it has the option to fold separately, there would be a button on the door by the window switch with a little mirror symbol and a capital “A” for auto fold and you can push the button all the way down to fold now. I hope that helps.
How do you change the time on the MID. For the life of me I can’t switch it now that daylight savings has passed. I can only change it on the screen but not the MID can you help
How much mileage do you guys get from 2023 toyota highlander xle per tank? The reason I am asking is that it shows 266 miles to distance to empty on dashboard. Is it normal or should I talk to talk to my dealer?
I’m sure the USB on the very far left also offers a wired version but haven’t tried it as once connected to Bluetooth, it’s all said and done. You prefer wired?
@brianruperti. Brian, thanks for a great video. My sole frustration with my highlander hybrid is that new in 2023 apparently the CarPlay does not mute the radio when dictating messages and other Siri commands. Is there a setting for that?
Brian can you tell me on the 2023 Highlander Hybrid how to either remove or change the Kmh meter that is located under the gas gauge at the bottom right. I don’t need Km reading, I need MPH. Thanks
One other question. I get a 3 month Sirius trial. When I first started reviewing the various pages I found a page with a vehicle ID to give to Sirius. I'd like to set up the trial but can't find that page again. Do you know where that page is? Another question I have is I used to have a 2018 Highlander Limited. It's navigation system allowed me to select to see upcoming turn by turn and other options. Can I do that with the 2023 Highlander. Thanks for your help.
Sorry I have not set up Sirius yet on the MY23s. With the navigation you’d change the settings to whichever app you’re running via CarPlay. In the Toyota interface navigation it would be in navigation settings. Hope that helps. If not you may want to bring it back to review with your product specialist.
Hi Brian- thanks for this. Is there a setting to compute gas mileage for a trip ? I know it shows up when you turn the car off, but then it resets, correct? So if you are on a trip and stop for gas, you can’t tell gas mileage for entire trip, right? Does that question make sense?
@@brianruperti thank you. is there a way to tell mpg for an entire trip that includes stops? Or a way for it not to reset the next time you start the car? Like a tripmeter that includes mpg?
Good presentation, but a couple of omissions...1) you can turn off the auto parking brake by holding the parking brake button for 5 seconds. 2) the three ports next to the 12 volt outlet are not old and new style, the left one is for USB connection to the system, while the right two are for charging only (no connection). 3) on the air conditioning, you forgot to mention pressing "auto" on the left temp control knob sets the whole front seat area to automatic duct and fan control. 4) Also on air conditioning, the S-flow button doesn't just turn the rear off, it senses where there are seated passengers and allows control/flow to only those areas. Otherwise, good presentation!
@@laurensutton3016 Yes... sort of. First, the obvious... "Auto" will tell the system to detect the outside temp, the inside temp, and the sunshine brightness coming through the front windshield to determine how to adjust the temperature of the heater/AC air, the fan speed, the source of the air (outside or recirculate), and the flow/direction of the air (dash vents, floor vents, defrost vents, or a mix of those) to achieve the temperature you set with the three dials (driver, front passenger, rear passenger). Note that it will also delay the initial air movement after starting your engine, until the engine warms up enough for heat, or for the air conditioning compressor to produce enough cold air to be useful, so you don't get blasted with damp, un-conditioned air. As far as "Max Air", I have a Mustang with that button, which forces the air source to "recirculate" and keeps the compressor ratio to "fully on" to give you the coldest possible air. The "auto" button on the Highlander will make those choices for you if you turn the temp all the way down to "LO" in "auto", the coldest setting. Note also, that the Highlander will attempt to make you comfortable with as little noise as possible. Plus, you can manually set the fan speed or air ducts at any time which will extinguish the "auto" light. However, I have found that "auto" works very well, runs smooth and quietly, and uses less gasoline than using any manual control. Plus, if you drive into a tunnel in the summer time, the fan will slow down because there is no sunshine to keep you warmed up. One more thing... if you select "ECO" on the center console for driving more economically (as opposed to Sport or Normal), your air conditioner will take a little longer to cool you down, as that will save fuel. Hope that helps.
I just got my 2023 Hylander and I’m having issues with the interior trunk button. When I push it, it beeps but won’t open. It only opens with the key fob or when I push the button on the trunk door. Can you help me understand why the button in the interior won’t open my trunk?
Hi! I have a 2021 Highlander Hybrid Limited. My kid is taking driving classes and one of the car features she had to identify (not use!) is the "airbag cutoff switch". I've looked everywhere, checked the manual, watched videos, and I can't find a definitive answer if there is even one in my car, much less where it is. Any help? Thanks!!!
I enjoyed your videos I am a newbie I've had my 2022 Toyota Highlander XLE for about close to a year now and I'm still learning and I would honestly say it there is a lot I don't know. I do have a question in a concern as well as trying to find out by googling and on RUclips. My question is, I have NOT BEEN able to get in for my 25,000 oil change. I have made numerous attempts but no luck. I been watching it's performance and all is good but late last night it alerted me that I need oil though the light didn't go on. I know I need a oil change drastically too. I tried AGAIN to schedule that to be told to call back (this is irritating- since it's been happening for 6minths! My question is: 1. What kind of oil, I only know Ow-20? 2.Should I take my Toyota to a Take5 or oil change place instead of dealership/which I been dealing with? I'm greatly worried. Any hints or advice I would appreciate cuz am just a single parent on a budget

when i shut engine off there is a very brief display on MID. Looks like trip info? But it's so brief I can't tell. Any advice on how to extend time?
Great question I don’t think you can adjust that. I could be wrong. But if you look at it right after shutting the engine and don’t open the door, it lasts longer.
Thanks. Great info. I want to turn off the high pitched beeping or at least lower the volume when close to an object or changing the settings. Is that in the Toyota app under ‘general’?
For parking sonar?
How to change the clock in the dashboard.please can you explain
Settings (gear symbol bottom left) >general>date&time
Is there a setting to keep the north arrow up all the time in the navigation system? I don't like it spinning I want it to stay static with north up all the time.
Yes you can change that on the integrated nav or CarPlay just hit the compass symbol. On the integrated nav I believe you have to change it in the nav settings
I know you hit the arrow button. But I want it to stay permanently.
Excellent presentation. Very informative. Thank you. Question: how can I play my ipod in the 23 XLE H'lander? Do I have to download any apps? Pls advice. Thx much. JD
Thanks. iPod would probably be a converter to usb. No apps needed.
Can you do a button review tutorial for the rav 4 hybrid xle 2023? As well as a general review?
Yes when I have time! Thanks for asking
Thanks for this. Can you explain to me why each time I start the vehicle it goes into guest mode and will not stay in my primary driver mode. Thanks
Hmm that’s strange. I would try disconnecting and reconnecting your account. If that doesn’t work, I’d stop by the dealer to have your sales person assist you.
How do you keep the radio from changing stations? When I turn the Highlander off and back on, it keeps going back to a default satellite station.
Interesting observation not sure yet
Fantastic demo thank you! The only things IMO that were overlooked is how to rearrange and choose what apps you have showing in CarPlay, are controlled from the phone. Also how to get to the standard FM radio. I haven’t spent much time with mine yet, but if memory serves me correctly it’s a bit convoluted getting to the radio as well as no way to put a hot button for it on the CarPlay screen. As I write this another would be how to set favorites in radio.
Please show about cruise control while you are driving
Is it possible to split the screen between navigation and radio?
If you’re in CarPlay and hit the Home Screen button on the bottom left, you can split screen that way.
Thanks Brian! The platinum is so beautiful and fully loaded than XLE.
Yes I can’t wait to see a new one
@@brianruperti Totally agreed! What do you think about the new engine, ride quality, wind nose? Thanks!
New engine is fine for what the Highlander is made to do. I’m biased towards V6 power. Ride quality was great just like 2022. Wind noise is not bad at all. Quiet to me.
@@brianruperti Thank you! Awaiting for the 12"3 infotainment video pls! Thank you!
This is the 12.3 video!
Awesome video. Thanks so much for sharing!!!
Thanks for watching!
Thanks you. Do you know how to close automatically the side rear views?
You’re welcome. They don’t
Silly question:How do you start uphill with electronic parking break and a manual transmission rav4?
We don’t make those
I really love the way you explain everything but I didn't get to see the outside and the back seats.
Thank you! Check this out ruclips.net/video/ILS1Y2DP7CY/видео.html
Hi, very informative video ty, question: is there a way to turn OFF the auto shut off/start when coming to stop signs, i seen theres normal and Extended but was wondering if theres a hidden option to turn it off permanently?
Yes that button should be near the shifter. Please see the buttons near shifter chapter
yes i know of this, but was wondering if theres a way to stop this feature permanently since its just an annoyance, was really hoping this vehicle wouldnt of added this *sigh*@@brianruperti
Excellent. Covers everything I need to know.
Sweet!
Hi Brian, great video, one question, how do you download apps, like FaceTime on my CarPlay?
Thanks! FaceTime wouldn’t work on CarPlay because the truck monitor doesn’t have a camera.
Yet 😏
Thank you Brian
You’re welcome
Quick question, does the limited highlander have any different features all they are all the same across the board?
Please see the brochure attached
Great video!. Do you have any information on the 2025 Highlander??
Thanks! Not yet
Amazing job Brian! Congratulations!
Thanks so much!
How can I close the side windows?
Do you recommend getting the larger screen?
Yes 100% on the 2023
First time Toyota Highlander purchaser.
@@brianruperti That's the ticket, Brian. Thanks very much.
Hope that helped
11:08 Just needed this info. Thanks
Thank you!! I’m new to Toyota just got my highlander and this helped a ton!!! 🫶
Hey welcome to the family! What color did you pick?
At 3:51, what is that oil change sign about? It has been bugging me but I cannot remove it...
That’s a gas pumper signifying you’re in the fuel consumption menu
I don't have the button (arrow with circle around it) on the top of the screen. How can I find that?
All I see is the large map
Are you in a hybrid? If so, it doesn’t have this feature.
How do you change the time on the MID. For the life of me I can’t switch it now that daylight savings has passed. I can only change it on the screen but not the MID can you help
Use the infotainment screen>general settings>date&time>daylights savings
How much mileage do you guys get from 2023 toyota highlander xle per tank? The reason I am asking is that it shows 266 miles to distance to empty on dashboard. Is it normal or should I talk to talk to my dealer?
Anyone to answer my question? Funny enough that my dealer couldnt answer my question
The carplay is wired to or just wireless?
I’m sure the USB on the very far left also offers a wired version but haven’t tried it as once connected to Bluetooth, it’s all said and done. You prefer wired?
Do you have a video for the 2023 Platinum?
Coming very soon. It will be a hybrid PLT
Hi my car is xle higlander but i can not see parking sensors how can i turn on or there is no sensors?
You don’t have parking sensors

How can I access the coolant and oil pressure gadgets for display on the dashboard?
Oil pressure isn’t shown but coolant temp should be on bottom of the speedo
Extremely helpful, thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
@brianruperti. Brian, thanks for a great video. My sole frustration with my highlander hybrid is that new in 2023 apparently the CarPlay does not mute the radio when dictating messages and other Siri commands. Is there a setting for that?
Yes I noticed this. I’m still trying to figure that out.
Brian can you tell me on the 2023 Highlander Hybrid how to either remove or change the Kmh meter that is located under the gas gauge at the bottom right. I don’t need Km reading, I need MPH. Thanks
Settings>meter settings>language/units
Does not change that one, just all the others.
All the others are in MPH and English
@@brianruperti To get your Radio ID, U just have to press the tune button and find your SiriusXM tab and press 0
Thank you
I'm having quite a time finding an XLE Hybrid with the 12" screen. Does Toyota make them anymore?
Yes
Hi Brian- thanks for this. Is there a setting to compute gas mileage for a trip ? I know it shows up when you turn the car off, but then it resets, correct? So if you are on a trip and stop for gas, you can’t tell gas mileage for entire trip, right? Does that question make sense?
Hello. Every time you turn the car off, the MID displays your trip economy for 20 seconds.
@@brianruperti thank you. is there a way to tell mpg for an entire trip that includes stops? Or a way for it not to reset the next time you start the car? Like a tripmeter that includes mpg?
@suechang1388 that’s called your tank average which is displayed in your MID
Thank you!
Can one of you elaborate on what the AUTO button does on the left temp dial? Since there’s no Max AC button anywhere, does this cover that function?
There may be a hatchback reset button inside the glove box. If you don’t have one or that doesn’t work, time to bring into service.
Outstanding presentation.
Thank you!
Any help? Thanks!!!
Hello I don’t know and even more confusing why that would be important in a driving class.
