basically first book comes down to stop fighting it, and just say let the worst happen, you are afraid of the panic attack basically. brain becomes super sensitive for this after a few times. basically a very bad habit once you become "afraid" of it. Once you are past the panic attack phase start figuring out / working out why you get them / are stressed. Usually has to do with work / friends/ personal situation. Long term need to do something to the source of the fear/stress/anxiety.

My question is why would it be that my right shoulder is chronically internally rotated in comparisons to my left. What would this indicated about potentially my hips or any other fundamental issue. Unfortunately i'm not seeing much improvement on my natural breathing even after doing this for several weeks almost daily. I do get relief and breathe with my chest naturrally after doing the exercise, but this only lasts for a minute and afterwards go straight back to belly breathing. Since the point is for it to last longer in order to get those chest breaths in throughout the day, should I be looking into doing something different? Do it more often? You won't read this but this is first time I've seen any reasonable mechanical explanation that didn't involve "you have weak x muscles you just need to exercise your back" so called experts are completely unable to think about this issue because they don't realistically care about it.
Question: what are your thoughts on the trigger/ catalyst for this being a structural weakness in one or more of the vertebrae in childhood, causing the body to compensate in the different ways? I have noticed a point in my spine that appears to be able to bend more than the rest of the spine. And body attempts to use muscles elsewhere to stay upright, over time it fails to stay upright impacting other areas

The position of the pelvis should be considered as you said, in a kyphosis there's less room for the rib cage to expand and the diaphragm to contract but normally during breathing without exertion it's mostly gentle quiet diaphragmatic breathing. Accessory respiratory muscles are usually only recruited in people with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease or severe kyphosis or other conditions with chest wall weakness. The lower ribs are genuinely pulled 'down' in people with emphysema.

    Are they comprehensive?

@Conor Harris your content is amazing!. I'm about to start shoulder no BS program. I have an issue with my elbow snapping and crunching when I rotate my forearm. It is definitely tied to a shoulder issue and spine as I have a limited external rotation and a lot of click when I do scap circles from protraction to retraction. Also my neck and trap muscles on those sides seem really tight. Any suggestions, do you think the shoulder program will address this? I'm also will be doing your anterior pelvic tilt program. Thanks!

I have doubts this will work. Is merely stretching muscles enough? I always felt this was caused from under developed muscles?

It may be even more serious. It can be caused by spinal malformations. This is my cause. Search barlotti's syndrome if you have this posture.

This is gold conor....it explains literally every thing I have....now I know what to target, also conor during the hooklying tilt with low reach for pump handle....my ribs do flare a little is that okay? Or should I exhale more?

    • @conorharris
      @conorharris  3 года назад

A little rib flare while standing is usually not the end of the world, but it can indicate poor breathing. I would work on longer exhales during ground-based exercises like I described in this video

Man these videos are giving me hope again that there may be a fix to my situation. For 6 years now i have been unable to get a satisfying breath specifically on my right side. My muscles in my neck have been overworked trying to help me breathe and they are aggravated! They are trying to do an ablation on nerves in my neck but i think the root issue is thoracic outlet adjacent. I need to find a physical therapist who can look at my issue and not dismiss it as I have been dismissed for 6 years. I straight up showed them your video. People take for granted the ability to not think about their breathing. Every breath i take I am aware of… still hoping one day the right set of eyes can determine my issue

If you have this posture please find out if you have Bertolotti syndrome. I have had this posture since I was a child. I have had severe back pain off and on since i was 10 years old. No one ever took my back pain seriously. Doctors wouldn't help and thought it was muscular. It wasn't. At 27, I had a fully ruptured L4-5 disc. It was horrendous pain and sciatic nerve damage. Fast forward 2 decades, I got a functional mri done for another reason, and the doctor told me I had Bartolotti syndrome! It explains everything. The childhood back pain, the ruptured disc, the swayback posture. Bertolotti's is congenital, meaning you're born with it. Please make sure you find a doctor who knows about this syndrome and get scanned for it if you have chronic back pain, swayback posture. I developed severe bacterial pneumonia 4 months ago and dant take full breaths. I thimk the pneumonia is related to not being able to breathe in fully.

PLEASE HELP* What if I broke my collar bone 4x and it's overlapped
1 1/4" now, my first 2 ribs are messed/the second one sticks out of my chest about 3/4" (measured by x-rays and ultra sounds by the radiology lab) this makes my shoulder pull in and my shoulderblade stick out and holds half my body in a funky twisted unpleasant state? I can't sleep. Can I do something for this? If asked a surgeon to take my collar bone out but won't because now my collar bone is separating from my sternum due to my body trying to re adjust and I'm in a ton of pain and at 35 I feel like my life is a waste due to it. I've been trying to get it fixed since I was 15. * Thankyou for any advice!!!!

Technically, you are very nearly correct.
However, the propensity for one to reference their skull as oneself, and use as a midline reference the skull itself versus as you say, “the midline of the body.”
So, at least two reference points:
    1) I strive to keep my head “upright” versus, independent of my body,
    2) I strive to keep my head upright and over my body.
Ones body can be fairly straight or crooked but the head can also, the two are not necessarily aware.
We all know people with slouched or injured posture who under or over compensate, deteriorate, and improve.
Some cultures do not approve of the very open chested, uprighted head, straight ahead or uplifted gaze. So, “posture” itself has many cultural meanings and interpretations
Personally, the movements of trained ballet dancers show what is a very open breathing mechanism.

This is me I got sick and stopped the gym for a year, formed this posture and feel crushed in the sternum. It’s super uncomfortable, I ended up using a cpap because I kept waking in my sleep from breathing / chest tightness. Anyone having any luck ? I am back at the gym, trying hard to get obliques on and expansion in my anterior chest.
