Install a plugin and configure it. In most cases, you will not need a developer. No deliverables to give a developer just give him access to the site and have him expand its capabilities if needed, all While using a framework that has been battle tested. In regards to speed. Page Builders such as Elementor allow you to make a website in a fraction of the time it will take you in WebFlow. Elementor and Similar page builders allow you to drag into the page pre-styled elements and functionality. Not to mention that you have access to the number 1 SEO tool, Yoast! (You want to show up on Google Organically right?) There are two notable things about Webflow that have an advantage over WordPress. 1 it has cleaner code over the page builders and 2. It creates sophisticated keyframe animations without code. With the implementation of server-side gzip compression, minification, of HTML, CSS, and Javascript it cancels out the code issue of it not being as optimized. With Webflow you will still need to take a course to learn the ins and out as it uses developer nomenclature, so is it really a better option? I would also like to add that all popular host provide 1 click WordPress installs, Free SSL Encryption through Let’s Encrypt and Cloudflare is a Free CDN that is available to everyone that wants to host their site. WordPress has a huge community which is constantly helping each other so the question is: is it worth to invest time in learning Webflow when WordPress is so flexible. Webflow is a cool tool but like Ran stated it has some issues that require workarounds. Webflow seems great but it seems limited in every other area that is not strictly design. Please feel free to correct me if I am wrong.
I totally agree with you, I've looked at many similar tools (and webflow does look very good) and the big problem is always the lack of certain functionality be available. Wordpress is so massive that there is a plugin for virtually any requirement. What happens if your client says he wants to run a loyalty scheme or whatever particular requirement it may be and webflow doesn't do it, what do you do then? Yes you can export the code but then you've just got a static site that will have to be wired up to another cms. Interested if anyone else has thoughts on this.

I think the developers that Ran is talking about are actually amateur or junior level, no mater what Webflow speed is it won't beat a dev experienced in React. I know it I come from that world. For web designers not developers Webflow is a win. These days pro devs don't write the code line all by themselves that's why there is a lot of libraries and frameworks. I feel Webflow is a great framework for web designers. It is a huge levarage. As always big fan of The futur, lot's of valuable content. I don't see why I should manually code a static page design using React or other javascript library or any other existing framework that needs coding for ui when there is a tool that can speed up ui process for developers. It’s also easier to train an employee how to use Elementor or something like webflow. The guy in the video knows how to code btw, just saying.
Thank you so much for this content. About 15 years ago I was very much interested in html coding, just to know how websites are made. I did not think to go into graphic design. Nowadays, I tried again get into webdesign as a designer. And became frustrated quickly to realize that coding developed into drag and droping for designers. It is this post that convinced me not to recap html but start getting into webflow.

Never used webflow but have built over 20 websites using Squarespace for clients. I honestly think it's an amazing platform and is all the majority of businesses need. Combine it with your photoshop skills and you can build incredible websites. Plus the platform is a big supporter for designers and has it's own circle and support team just for us. Will check out webflow at some point though.
I started using webflow again recently and it's really a beast. I remember trying it a couple of years ago but gave up on it but I need to prototype and build pages faster now.
Just for those dreaming saying he works 30 hours and has a revenue of 300k is just scratching the surface, as Ran said he has to use leverage like making RUclips videos, Webflow Masterclass, Taking the futur business bootcamp etc those are indirect hours spent except from the 30 hours client work. It requires a lot of smart hard work over a period of time.
Exactly! I am saying that he might be working 80 hours a week, in those 80 hours 30 are for others (client work) and 50 is for what he enjoys and wants to work on. Sometimes the feeling you get when thinking 30 hours is like literally working 30 hours, which is not. In terms of freedom, he is choosing what to work rather than working for something he doesn't want. But that's a lot of hard work both ways. He still has to keep the leverage refined and sustain it. The industry is very dynamic and new technology appearing every day.

The building process can be done fast and that sounds amazing. But, what about strategy, content, etc.? I know you talked about his in the video but I can't get a clear idea out of it. 2. What about agile methodology? What happens with design stages and what happens if the client asks for revisions? I mean, the time goes to hell. 3. I know you talked about this too, but do you think about recurring fees offering website maintenance? What's your opinion about this and why shouldn´t clients hire this service? I ask these questions because I want to learn from it.
Webflow is BOSS. The code is so clean, and it's not really a wysiwyg per se, but it gives you a great amount of tools in the form of a GUI that will manipulate both the markup, your doc flow and your CSS. The markdown it spits out is super minty fresh and super clean. Like hand-written and semantic clean.
for web designers like me, webflow is phenomenal. I don't have the time to learn more about javascript and other stuff that is also very complicated. even if I want to learn it. time is seriously money. I could create a working website myself than just creating designs which can gain me more clients and opportunities. I love doing web designs that are very graphics driven.
Actually what I think is that Webflow is a game changer for designers, but for developers it depends on the kind of project Because if it is a static website Webflow would be a great and can save a lot of time. But if it's dynamic, it can be a the wrong tool to use, and I think he didn't face such problems because he didn't deal with companies with a whole engineering team because generated code can have a lot of problems such as bad code, performance .. It can be great too and can still save time for intermediate size websites, because no doubt that the developer will have to tweak and clean the code but it's still better than starting from scratch. So in conclusion, it can be a game changer for some kind of websites but still it can have some problems that can even exclude the choice of webflow, so it's up for us to judge whether it is the right tool to use or not for the kind of project we have.
Just a few years ago I had pretty much a similar workflow going inside Adobe Muse and Business Catalyst. This seems really a next step in the development of integrating design and coding. Very cool!

Awesome episode! I'd love to see a follow up episode expressing your teams thoughts on Webflow and its capabilities/limitations. As a web developer with experience with website building tools I was really sketchy about the final result ( having tried several other website builders ). But after some testing yesterday I was just stunned by the quality of the produced code, ease of use and tremendous efficiency that comes with visually building code. Topping that off with a tool as FreeformJS to export the project right into Angular projects really made me reconsider how I'm going to work from now on :)
I definitely want to see all the course suggestions Chris had for strategy and more. Especially STRATEGY! Really inspired about Webflow and I'm gonna try it out.
Every episode from the futur really expands my way of thinking, except this one. Chris Do, managed an amazing coaching session at trying to get something more meaningful from it, I appreciate it. It felt like Ran’s answers defaulted to sales pitch on webflow and did not go beyond that. I understood webflow was the focus but did not provide transferable knowledge. Basically Ran made the same sales pitch on webflow with every answer. Hope it doesn’t sound messed up, just trying to help the viewers choose. Kept waiting for the punchline and didn’t get it. I am the one of few to notice how hard they limit form submissions for Webflow? like starter - 500, CMS - 1000 and only Business get unlimited. Feels like if you project is bigger than Mama & Papa shop then you need to pay for hosting like $36USD to get BUSINESS level and you are still limited to 10 Logins? So the Webflow is basically for tiny organisations/Very small business that don't have too many users and don't need multiple level accounts

I love this Channel and must say that in my opinion not everything Ran mentioned is 100% accurate. I do web development using WordPress and Webflow and not all functions, options can be easily integrated to Webflow as like many other CS systems it has limitations. Does anyone charges $100 US dollars for a $% dollar hosting plan? Is it just me or Ran just avoids answering specific questions?

Depends. How many hours of practice you have :D If you're doing this around year and a half (like me) the concept is harder. Yea I have good designs (I think :D) I'm working with clients and they love my work, but I still think I don't do great work when talking about a concept. Everything comes with practice soooo I will continue to do that!
So does the style guide actually link to the webflow page? For example if you changed the font size of the paragraph tag in the style guide will it instantly change the paragraph text in the webflow draft you are working on?

I find interesting the development budget, you earn like 2k but you dont actually write any code. That number comes from the fact that code takes time to write (clean code). At the same time, you cant lower that because it would not be fair for legit developers and so webflow also gives away the code(not as clean). In that case, time seems more important than the method applied.
I can't get past the fact that Webflow is proprietary and that all dynamic aspects of the site would break if I ever had to switch hosting for any reason.
I always run into clients who want a site built in Wordress because they want control over making updates to text, selected images, and blog posts. My main concern is that Webflow allow for this common request. Do clients have the ability to make revisions as needed without ruining the integrity of the design (in other words messing up everything)? Adobe Muse used to be decent for this kind of thing, but of course, it's no longer going to be used. I love the ability to create the code because it's familiar but how does it stack up to Wordpress for end-user clients.
I'll have to backtrack the video. Thanks so much. I did see where he offers the client a preview to get them on board with the idea of using Webflow. It looks like a great tool, but it may be a stretch to say it's better than Wordpress. I am sure it is in many ways and within certain contexts. I do like the usefulness for those seeking to be able to utilize the direct code and the portability of it. Fortunately, I have fairly good experience working with HTML, CSS and some JS. Worth exploring.
EpicCurrence website example is a recreation of the original website made by the great dev Aristide Benoist. It's nice but it can't be compare with the original masterpiece at all. The original used WebGL for performance pixel manipulation, that's another level guys. Webflow is a great tool, but real front-end skills (not the basics) and Webflow are veeery far to be compared. Just a note hehe.
I think webflow is a bit limited. I want to jump from muse to webflow but i talked to the guys at webflow and they want to shoved their host on my ass and my clients. I dont want to leave my host provider but in order to move to webflow i need to leave everything and join their host. also, they want my clients to host with them as well and charge them monthly.. i think am jumping to wordpress i think it's more flexible for me.
I use Wordpress, the default Wordpress theme, and Elementor theme/page builder. 80% of WP issues are caused by themes, so this cuts that out entirely, and my clients that demand WP are happy. p.s. 75% of all websites are on Wordpress.
I don't understand how creating a site under 1 hour a good thing? First of all, The ole's website redesign case study from futur was a mind changer for me. I was mind blown to see the web design process and I know deep inside that is the actual process. When I started learning UX and Branding more, now I don't know how to make a website in 1 hour. Even the research process can take up to multiple days. Secondly I am from a computer science background, and I learnt how to code complex sites. And ones I have a PSD file, creating a site template is not that hard of a job for me, or for any professional developer. webflow is just a tool. It offers better efficiency. But I dont think building a site in couple of hours which is actually useful for the business and the target customer is not possible. That might be pretty but not good.

I love this channel, but I think he's overselling Webflow. I tried it and it's a pain in the ass to do something there, from centering a logo to duplicating projects. I'd rather use Wordpress.

Every episode from the futur really expands my way of thinking, except this one. Chris Do, managed an amazing coaching session at trying to get something more meaningful from it, I appreciate it. It felt like Ran’s answers defaulted to sales pitch on webflow and did not go beyond that. I understood webflow was the focus but did not provide transferable knowledge. Basically Ran made the same sales pitch on webflow with every answer. Hope it doesn’t sound messed up, just trying to help the viewers choose. Kept waiting for the punchline and didn’t get it. Gracias.

I am the one of few to notice how hard they limit form submissions for Webflow? like starter - 500, CMS - 1000 and only Business get unlimited. Feels like if you project is bigger than Mama & Papa shop then you need to pay for hosting like $36USD to get BUSINESS level and you are still limited to 10 Logins?
So the Webflow is basically for tiny organisations/Very small business that don't have too many users and don't need multiple level accounts

I love this Channel and must say that in my opinion not everything Ran mentioned is 100% accurate. I do web development using WordPress and Webflow and not all functions, options can be easily integrated to Webflow as like many other CS systems it has limitations.
Does anyone charges $100 US dollars for a $% dollar hosting plan?

Depends. How many hours of practice you have :D If you're doing this around year and a half (like me) the concept is harder. Yea I have good designs (I think :D) I'm working with clients and they love my work, but I still think I don't do great work when talking about a concept. Everything comes with practice soooo I will continue to do that!

So does the style guide actually link to the webflow page? For example if you changed the font size of the paragraph tag in the style guide will it instantly change the paragraph text in the webflow draft you are working on?
I also wanted to know this. I'm big on putting all my effort in creating templates and libraries so my work flow is more efficient

I find interesting the development budget, you earn like 2k but you dont actually write any code. That number comes from the fact that code takes time to write (clean code). At the same time, you cant lower that because it would not be fair for legit developers and so webflow also gives away the code(not as clean). In that case, time seems more important than the method applied.

I can't get past the fact that Webflow is proprietary and that all dynamic aspects of the site would break if I ever had to switch hosting for any reason.
I used webflow after accidentally discovering flux, I charge 800 usd for a small website, and am just a recent high school grad and based in India

I always run into clients who want a site built in Wordress because they want control over making updates to text, selected images, and blog posts. My main concern is that Webflow allow for this common request. Do clients have the ability to make revisions as needed without ruining the integrity of the design (in other words messing up everything)? Adobe Muse used to be decent for this kind of thing, but of course, it's no longer going to be used. I love the ability to create the code because it's familiar but how does it stack up to Wordpress for end-user clients.

I'll have to backtrack the video. Thanks so much. I did see where he offers the client a preview to get them on board with the idea of using Webflow. It looks like a great tool, but it may be a stretch to say it's better than Wordpress. I am sure it is in many ways and within certain contexts. I do like the usefulness for those seeking to be able to utilize the direct code and the portability of it. Fortunately, I have fairly good experience working with HTML, CSS and some JS. Worth exploring.

EpicCurrence website example is a recreation of the original website made by the great dev Aristide Benoist. It's nice but it can't be compare with the original masterpiece at all. The original used WebGL for performance pixel manipulation, that's another level guys. Webflow is a great tool, but real front-end skills (not the basics) and Webflow are veeery far to be compared. Just a note hehe.

I think webflow is a bit limited. I want to jump from muse to webflow but i talked to the guys at webflow and they want to shoved their host on my ass and my clients. I dont want to leave my host provider but in order to move to webflow i need to leave everything and join their host. also, they want my clients to host with them as well and charge them monthly.. i think am jumping to wordpress i think it's more flexible for me.
I use Wordpress, the default Wordpress theme, and Elementor theme/page builder. 80% of WP issues are caused by themes, so this cuts that out entirely, and my clients that demand WP are happy. p.s. 75% of all websites are on Wordpress.
I don't understand how creating a site under 1 hour a good thing? First of all, The ole's website redesign case study from futur was a mind changer for me. I was mind blown to see the web design process and I know deep inside that is the actual process. When I started learning UX and Branding more, now I don't know how to make a website in 1 hour. Even the research process can take up to multiple days.
Secondly I am from a computer science background, and I learnt how to code complex sites. And ones I have a PSD file, creating a site template is not that hard of a job for me, or for any professional developer. webflow is just a tool. It offers better efficiency. But I dont think building a site in couple of hours which is actually useful for the business and the target customer is not possible. That might be pretty but not good.
If you can do it and it works, doing it faster is a good idea right?

I love this channel, but I think he's overselling Webflow. I tried it and it's a pain in the ass to do something there, from centering a logo to duplicating projects. I'd rather use Wordpress.

No. It only works if the site is hosted on Webflow. Can I ask what is the reason why the client wants to host the site on their server?

So how do you sell a website like this to the client? You make the website, buy the 30$ package to be able to export code, and then go to whichever host their website is using and just paste the code into index.html, upload the images, css sheet, etc? Right?
