    The wingflex was outstanding

    That’s pretty impressive. Looks like the ailerons were almost going full travel in either direction. Good workout for whichever pilot was flying. Nice video.

      Few people realize why the engines wiggle like that. Most loads in turbulent conditions are through the vertical axis of the jet- minor up and downdrafts. Since a large part of the mass of the engine is spinning, gyroscopic precession cause the load to be manifested 90 degrees in the direction of rotation. If the engine were shut down it would bounce up and down, since it's rotating it wiggles side to side.

      Speaking of which, it reminds me of Jason Derulo's Wiggle.

    That is not any unusual turbulence. I have traveled the equivalent of a couple of times around the planet, and this kind of approach would not have been all that uncommon.

    • @RoJean81
      @RoJean81  6 лет назад +5

      Correct. This isn't as bad as what I experienced a few years back. But this was quite bumpy, but my phone automatically smoothens the camera movement, so you can't really see it.

    • @Ahuntsicspotter
      @Ahuntsicspotter 6 лет назад

      Johannesbourg is served by KLM and KLM is using the Boeing triple 7 to Johannesburg and not the Boeing 747-400.

    • @RoJean81
      @RoJean81  6 лет назад

      Félix Maltchinski That's true, but I think in the past they did send their 747's down to Jo'burg.

    • @Ahuntsicspotter
      @Ahuntsicspotter 6 лет назад

      Maybe they did but I have no idea about that. But the last 747 to be retired from the KLM fleet was nammed Freetown PH-BFN wich means the aircraft had the African name. So far there is 4 planes with African names in the KLM fleet.

    • @RoJean81
      @RoJean81  6 лет назад

      Félix Maltchinski The last one was PH-BFF. BFN, Nairobi, is still active. There are 2 left with African names out of 3.
