- Laurence Fox has apologised for his comments made on GB News about journalist Ava Evans, saying "I'm sorry for demeaning you in that way".
Actor-turned-politician Fox made a series of remarks about political correspondent Ms Evans, which included asking "who would want to shag that?" during a discussion on Dan Wootton Tonight on Tuesday.
Both Fox and Wootton were suspended by GB News amid an internal investigation and a probe by regulator Ofcom, who received around 7,300 complaints about the episode.
Fox said he was angry with Ms Evans over comments she made on a BBC debate around male suicide and alleged she had a "dislike of men in general", but apologised for "demeaning her".
Addressing the situation in a video posted to X, formerly known as Twitter, he said: "If I was going to be sensible and I could replay it, I would say: 'Any self-respecting man in 2023 would probably be well advised to avoid a woman who possessed that world view because she would probably cause him nothing but harm'.
"But what I did say was, you know, 'I wouldn't shag that', and all that sort of stuff, which is not right. It's demeaning to her, to Ava, so I'm sorry for demeaning you in that way.

I could not stop laughing at Laurence Fox's so-called apology. Still demeaning her while doing so.

It's more scary to me that this is any kind of deal at all. Yeah it was silly to say on TV maybe, but it's hardly crime of the century. This kind of witch-hunt hysteria we're living in now does not bode well for any of us I'm afraid.

I need to know the Way of Fox.
His message was in support of families of men who have taken their own lives. The largest single factor in the deaths of the majority of men up to the age of 50. The attitude and the words of Ava were and are just as ugly. She brought that spray upon herself. Should it have been done in a different way, maybe, but it most certainly should have been done.

I have not listened to the apology because the disgusting personal comments he made in that original interview were unforgivable. I actually thought he was a good actor. I will never watch or listen to him again. It's sad to think that some people think that it is acceptable and funny to speak like that in any context. The presenter who found it funny makes this entire episode even more disgusting.

I found Megyn Kelly's reference to Ava Evans comments about Men's mental health and a minister for men. I think I can see why Laurence was so furious to the point of such poor judgement. I suspect Ava's comments were grounded in mysandry .... but of course she will not be scrutinised. There are socially acceptable forms of bigotry and those that are not.

I think I understood what Laurence meant. Sadly he didn't express himself well at that time. It wasn't the time or place for that sort of language, but we need to keep things in perspective and I hope Laurence can move on from this.

She only sees one point of view and she demeans men. She has an answer to everything but every line starts with "but women". We all know that someone who always has the story to one up you for anything you say. "When I was young", "when I worked there", "when I had a baby" and she always starts with "well women" had it worse, less than and on and on.
