Croydon stabbing: Family of Elianne Andam speak out for first time

- The family of Elianne Andam, who was stabbed to death as she made her way to school on Wednesday, have described her as the “light of our lives” in a tribute to the 15-year-old.
In a statement released through the Metropolitan Police, the family said: “Our hearts are broken by the senseless death of our daughter.
“Elianne was the light of our lives. She was bright and funny, with many friends who all adored her She was only 15, and had her whole life ahead of her, with hopes and dreams for the future.

The individual responsible needs to be locked away for at least 50 years if not whole life sentencing. Carrying a knife should be 15 years in prison minimum.

I live in Orpington and visit Croydon frequently and this has severely angered me. What an absolutely disgusting excuse of a weak 'man' to stab a girl because he can't control his emotions. I hope the judge shows him no mercy and hell is extra hot on his welcome.

Croydon has changed so much. The last time I was in that area was in 2003 and 04. There were many influential people from that area. I remember I use to meet my work colleagues in walkabout and other fun places. Use have a nice meal in the centre. Now all I hear is shooting, stabbing, mentally unstable people in the area. What a shame.

I am so sorry that this has happened. This is terrible, to leave home to go to school and never to return, so sad. What a nightmare for Elianne's mother. So sad. Why are all these weapons on the street and nothing is being done about it, nothing. What is the point of the mayor visiting the area? How hard can it be to get these weapons off the street?
This is being allowed for a reason. I know this area from my youth and it wasn't like this. Something changed.

Stop and search targeting the right people could make a big impact and that means 70% black stop and searches in London and long custodial sentences for carrying knives. The black community cannot blame the police they should take responsibility.
