A tip for the fine mix sifting setup... take a jigsaw(remove blade) and use it to agitate the screen while moving the soil around, It should vibrate the screen and allow the finer bits to pass through easier. A broken blade or modified blade can be used if the end is short enough and wrapped in metal epoxy and tape to Soften the impact when it hits the screen so it won't poke through. Think like a small boxing mitt, only at a speed that works for you! May your Independence Day Celebrations be Happy and Safe! Happy Birthday America!

If you haven't already planned it out you should put a IP Security camera in/around the chicken coop most nowadays can record to SD card so you could use the footage as time lapse ect and also keep an eye on your animals. The other nice thing is you could also monitor the video from the house even when you are not at the coop.
I feel the PPE when cutting stuff. I did a paver walkway, and didn't want to have seams parallel to the edges because if I bike over it the bike wheels can get railroaded into the seams and throw you off balance. So to do a diagonal pattern I needed to cut my edge pavers diagonally. Fortunately you don't cut them all the way through, I cut them about halfway and then broke them off. The bad news is cutting concrete pavers creates a crapton of concrete dust. The problems escalate quickly too from there, with dust in your face/eyes, dust on the pavers, dust blocking your view of even seeing your cuts... So PPE: gloves, goggles, long sleeves, mask. Then if it wasn't a windy enough day, I needed to setup my leaf blower to keep visibility even. Honestly cutting like 500 pavers was the worst part of that whole process. Didn't think my 7.5in 20v circular saw could handle it, so I got a corded 4.5in one, better suited for cutting pavers and went through like 5 blades? Honestly I lost track of how many I used.

Things are happening indeed Great progress. We too have 3 rain water catchment tanks connected to roof guttering. Rain collection should be made compulsory for all new building.s
Not all locations need rooftop rain catchment systems, since many places just have the land itself to soak up the water, and you can drill/dig a well to access it. But certainly rainwater tanks in the city and other places with no soil would be a great idea.
@@thewiseturtle Yes..but..the more rain we can collect..the more water will be left underground and in reservoirs..and then for some months of your year the water bill is reduced
@@annar6430 That's not how water works. Or anything material. Any water here can't be somewhere else. Also, for folks with wells there is no "water bill" since their water is theirs (on their land).
@@thewiseturtle Here in Jamaica...water is either..metered from the reservoir, illegal water connection or taken from the river. We geologically get 40% if our water from the underground aquifers. All new builds either urban or suburban have to have rain water catchment tanks

Good call on the enduraplas tanks. I use lots of them and they hold up really well. So well in fact that when I unloaded them from the semi I didnt strap them down overnight before install and a gust of wind rolled one 1/4 mile down the road the next morning. My kids rolled it back and we installed it. They are tough as nails. 1"of rain on 1 sq ft = .620 gallons. Or something like that. Congrats on getting that done before the rain season.
Wow! I just discovered your channel. My husband and I purchased a sweet little home built in the late 1800's just outside Prescott, AZ in 2021 after moving from crazy, busy San Diego. (Our neighborhood is very rural. We have our own well and septic system.) Just this past week we had new gutters and rain barrels installed. Today we had our first big down pour of the monsoon season. As you know, it was thrilling knowing that we were saving so much water!!! I can't get over how industrious and HARDY you people are! Beside enjoying watching how the family is working together on all the projects (What great kids you have!) I love the seeing the beautiful scenery. Arizona is such a wonderful part of the country. I love living here.

G'day guys, for your rainwater harvesting thru PVC pipes , there's clear PVC primer& glue available (@ least here in Australia) Green is pressure, blue is non-pressure glue, but both look messy! Looking awesome guys, worlds luckiest chickens!! 👍🌞🇦🇺

I saw someone bring out an electrolyte drink to someone in a blue bottle. I make my own. Where I live, it is often very humid in summer. The temperatures range between 30 to 35C (86 to 95F) on a good day and is bearable when there's no clouds and it's dry but add a few heavy gray clouds with a hint of rain and the Humidex goes through the roof making it feel a lot hotter than it should be usually by another 5 to 9 digits higher and worse if the humidity percentage is over 80% where it can climb to 10 degrees more. Before I retired as a wilderness first responder, I had the privilege of treating many victims of heat exhaustion and believe it or not, it occurs more in sedentary people who come out to play once in a while or during holiday hikes. Plus in very high humidity (when you'd figure it would be less) the risk is greater. I always carried a small pouch with the following ingredients (easy to find in your kitchen cupboard): ¾ tsp kosher salt (this salt has no iodine which makes it easier for the body to absorb), 4 tbsp sugar (I’ve used white, brown & Damara sugars - Damara and white work best), 1 tsp baking powder (allows a smoother swallow). The original recipe calls for fresh orange juice but when you hike, the last think you want is more weight, so I add 2 tbsp fruit drink crystals (and reduce the sugar amount to 3 tbsp (because the drink crystals already have sugar). Put all the ingredients in a zippered snack bag and mix well. Store in a cool, dry place (like your first aid kit). To use: add the dry to 35 oz of water. Shake well for at least 30 seconds. Or for single use: 2 tsp of dry mix to 250 ml (1 cup) of water. Don't drink it in big gulps. Take a small sip every minute, let it sit on your tongue for 5 seconds then swallow it down. The average high activity ratio is: Drink 100 ml (3 oz) every hour (about 2 mouthfuls) or every 3 bottles of water. High sweat activity: drink 150 ml (5 oz) to 600 ml (21 oz) of water for continuous drinking during the activity with 250 ml (1 cup) of electrolyte replacement drink after 600 ml of water. Hope this helps you all stay hydrated.

You could have just added another board on top of the facia board to extend it out so you wouldn't have to cut the metal roofing off and save yourself a lot more time and effort. Yeah they're tanks - and most importantly thick enough to make sure mold doesn't start growing from sunlight.
Could you put a rain gauge on the side of the roof to measure how much rain you are catching?

I saw someone bring out an electrolyte drink to someone in a blue bottle. I make my own. Where I live, it is often very humid in summer. The temperatures range between 30 to 35C (86 to 95F) on a good day and is bearable when there's no clouds and it's dry but add a few heavy gray clouds with a hint of rain and the Humidex goes through the roof making it feel a lot hotter than it should be usually by another 5 to 9 digits higher and worse if the humidity percentage is over 80% where it can climb to 10 degrees more.
Before I retired as a wilderness first responder, I had the privilege of treating many victims of heat exhaustion and believe it or not, it occurs more in sedentary people who come out to play once in a while or during holiday hikes. Plus in very high humidity (when you'd figure it would be less) the risk is greater. I always carried a small pouch with the following ingredients (easy to find in your kitchen cupboard): ¾ tsp kosher salt (this salt has no iodine which makes it easier for the body to absorb), 4 tbsp sugar (I’ve used white, brown & Damara sugars - Damara and white work best), 1 tsp baking powder (allows a smoother swallow). The original recipe calls for fresh orange juice but when you hike, the last think you want is more weight, so I add 2 tbsp fruit drink crystals (and reduce the sugar amount to 3 tbsp (because the drink crystals already have sugar). Put all the ingredients in a zippered snack bag and mix well. Store in a cool, dry place (like your first aid kit).
To use: add the dry to 35 oz of water. Shake well for at least 30 seconds. Or for single use: 2 tsp of dry mix to 250 ml (1 cup) of water. Don't drink it in big gulps. Take a small sip every minute, let it sit on your tongue for 5 seconds then swallow it down. The average high activity ratio is: Drink 100 ml (3 oz) every hour (about 2 mouthfuls) or every 3 bottles of water. High sweat activity: drink 150 ml (5 oz) to 600 ml (21 oz) of water for continuous drinking during the activity with 250 ml (1 cup) of electrolyte replacement drink after 600 ml of water. Hope this helps you all stay hydrated.

You could have just added another board on top of the facia board to extend it out so you wouldn't have to cut the metal roofing off and save yourself a lot more time and effort. It is just a thought on my part but you as a family doing what you are doing is amazing and such unity together. Love watching you work together. God Bless you on your new adventure in life.
