I think the confusion is from the fact that she's a Disney Brand Princess. She only qualifies because of the "commits an act of bravery" rule which Im pretty sure they made up specifically for her so she could be in the brand line. I'm pretty sure she's the only one in the line who isn't a princess in any way (if you don't count Pocahontas and Moana since they're daughters of chiefs and technically not princesses). I could be wrong though.

Aladdin's vest and his fez also have this sort of theme and change colors a bit when he's in shadow versus in the sun (from the vest being purple to blue, and the fez from red to purple), but those points in time are also when he's doing something not seen as positive (stealing, lying, etc.) versus something positive (freeing Genie, giving his breakfast to the children after "One Jump Ahead", etc.).
I love the idea of introducing more black and ethnic princesses. However, me being a redhead when I was little the only one I could relate to or ‘idolize’ was Ariel because she was the only one that looked like me. (Merida came out after I was little). And I can’t help but be a tad bit disappointed that the live action won’t have a red headed Ariel. Don’t get me wrong the actress is gorgeous and is going to make a great princess, but now I feel like there is a lack of rep for us gingers.

Red has been a favourite hair colour for heroines for a long time. Lots of books and movies give their plucky, bold female characters red hair. When I was I kid so many of my favourite characters were redheads that I desperately wanted my hair to be red too. I think it's interesting how well represented they are since they don't really make up that much of the population.
Mary Blair's style wasn't flat. Walt complained that the animation effects "watered down her vision". Distorted it. Made it less effective. If not completely washed her approach.

Merida's character as a whole was actually based off of Brenda Chapman's own daughter, Emma Rose. Emma was described as very energetic and active, much like Merida in the movie. Though mainly based off of Emma Rose, Merida was given Brenda's signature curly, red tresses.
They should NEVER have aged Pocahontas to make an imaginary love interest. Having a child be a hero is old Disney gold and would have been much more historically accurate for the children.

It's good they changed it, even tho it was before they did Rapunzel or Elsa. I think since Rapunzel is "supposed to be blond' from the original (non-disney) story, they kept that and then Elsa, cuz she has winter powers, her hair is almost white, while Anna's and the rest of her families is reddish or brown, so it distinguishes her that way. But I think there should be more brunette princesses (with different shades of brown, not just the same as Belle's hair color) cuz we have more of every other color category than brown.

I'm sure Jane Porter must have been a reference to Jane Goodall. Just that it's not with chimpanzees but Gorillas. Both love nature and animals. Both wear nearly same color dress and feel at home in jungles. So at home that neither wants to leave it and always stay there. I totally imagine Jane as the Indiana Jones of the Jungle; bouncing from tree to tree; studying monkeys and apes; taking notes about how monkeys and humans are similar; maybe even creating Primatology; hugging monkeys; and asserting herself just like Jane Gooddall did at her time when she met with criticism as being not feminine and crazy to even think of working in the jungle as it was not good for a woman to work n certainly not in the forests as men; and who knows maybe even adopting a little cute gorilla to raise as her own with the superhero of the Jungle. Tarzan to me could be an allusion to feral children or people; people raised by animals in a different context and setting. It's one way or another related to primatology too. So, y not making sense with Jane's being here. Maybe Jane got to learn more of animal cultures and behaviour and maybe she went on to found Primatology as a discipline and provide insights on behaviour.

I kinda wish that Disney princesses had more diverse body types. Like they are all beautiful but sometimes unrealistic. Young kids need to learn that all body types can be beautiful and smart

I'm sure Jane Porter must have been a reference to Jane Goodall. Just that it's not with chimpanzees but Gorillas. Both love nature and animals. Both wear nearly same color dress and feel at home in jungles. So at home that neither wants to leave it and always stay there. I totally imagine Jane as the Indiana Jones of the Jungle; bouncing from tree to tree; studying monkeys and apes; taking notes about how monkeys and humans are similar; maybe even creating Primatology; hugging monkeys; and asserting herself just like Jane Gooddall did at her time when she met with criticism as being not feminine and crazy to even think of working in the jungle as it was not good for a woman to work n certainly not in the forests as men; and who knows maybe even adopting a little cute gorilla to raise as her own with the superhero of the Jungle. Tarzan to me could be an allusion to feral children or people; people raised by animals in a different context and setting. It's one way or another related to primatology too. So, y not making sense with Jane's being here. Maybe Jane got to learn more of animal cultures and behaviour and maybe she went on to found Primatology as a discipline and provide insights on behaviour.
