The greatest racing car ever built in my humble opinion and also some of the best and bravest drivers. Thank you for brining it back to life! Saddest part is you don't get to drive her. Feel for You!!
The tail is wrong for the fins - what you have is a 1970/71 hybrid. The fins in 1971 were used with a lower, slightly concave back end for higher speed courses. They kept air flow on the rear deck instead of spilling over, so less drag without much loss of stability or down force. Non fin rears were also used in 1971 with the higher deck, especially by John Wyer. Sorry for being pedantic. 🙃
The real #22 aka 917-053 is tucked away at Porsche's museum and from what I've read it has never seen the light of day since it won LeMans. @BentHornRanch is right He doesn't have enough $$$$ to get the real #22 from Porsche. BUt his replica is one FINE example!
beautiful car, and great choice in the power train. Love LS engines, and the LS3 is probably the best (reliability and potential) gen 4 small block gm ever made. If money were no object, I'd build mine the same way.
That ranch with the animals, land and cars is a thing of beauty. This is definitely a kit 917, but no shame in it as I would still love a dream project car like this. The LS Corvette motor is bulletproof and can go to any AutoZone for parts. The Willwood brakes gave it away early in the video. Just enjoy the thrills man.
It doesn't have a 930 4 speed. Based on the way the trans is mounted at the the rear? It's 996 6 speed flipped upside down. Not sure why they didn't just use the BoxsterS 6 speed. No need to flip it.
I dig it. I've looked at the RCR kit a few times with interest, is this one a RCR also? As much as I like a flat air cooled 6, it's just not practical for a vehicle like this, the LS is the clear way to go.
Well, if the day comes that I do decide to take the plunge, it would be just for the kit. I'd be the one building. Although with what I see from another fellow out in France building his, the kit leaves a lot to be desired, and is very much so just a pile of parts and a "good luck..." than a 'kit'
LS3... nooooo! Go get a flat 6. But still, awesome car. Its presented beautifully. Thats gutting that you dont fit. I feel for you. (P.s. who built it?)
Do you fit if you remove the seat and sit flat on the floor? I had a similar problem, fitting inside my Lotus 61 formula Ford. Have the top of the door plexiglass modified like they did for Gurney in the GT-40. Where there's a will, there's a way..............
Well, there are "Convertible" models... the CAN-AM 917's. Google: Porsche 917/30. Good luck! I can sympathize with you though. I had an offer to race a McLaren M-10A, formula 5000, a couple decades back. I DID manage to get into it, but it was so tight I couldn't move my feet on the pedals....
Are we going to lucking enough to see your beauty at cars/coffe in rancho Santa Fe. Be great to had Udo 330p come out at the same time. Thanks for video Mike - kirkham slabside cobra guy. ;)
so beautiful with the wings. My gal and I just bought a pretty cool lowered porsche 914. Obviously a joke power wise but the - the best part is the Gulf Oil Livery colors, blue/orange. same as gt-40 and porsche 917 winning colors. There was a pretty amazing 917 at the good guys del mar show last year. I have a picture from show of its American v8 similar to yours. Love the white racing livery as well. hope to see you. You need the Extended Gurney bubble. Maybe a porsche t-top/targa style.
Awesome stuff! I’m happy for anyone that achieves their car dreams and I do hope you find a solution to your fitment problem. Since it’s not the “actual” race car from 1971 and is a kit car I, personally, would not have any problem modifying the car so I could fit. May I suggest a combination of a removable roof panel and a custom seat? Something that is reversible might be prudent as well. Good luck and even though I am of average height please make a future video showing us your solution!
@@BentHornRanchBefore watching your video, I was thinking of building a Ford GT40 but I like the looks of yours much better and have never seen a Porsche like yours before. I'd call it blasphemous.

Fantastic build!
Thank you!
Beautiful replicar.
Helmud Marko and Gijs van Lennep had the record in Le Mans, in 71 with 917, but after that there was a chicane bild in the circuit
Make that two chicanes - both on the Mulsanne straight as from the 1990 24 Hours.

I don't think he'll care. I wouldn't
I wouldn't either. It's HIS CAR.
is the transaxle the only Porsche factory-supplied component?
Dose anybody know what company makes this kit car I’ve been trying to find one that’s either a LH or the 71 style with the wings
