If you’ve never watched a TF boat in person, please make the effort to see one! There is NOTHING on planet earth that is as violent as these boats! The sound and fury is above even the Top a fuel dragster in the NHRA! With much less reward…. I want MORE TF boats! It’s the most awesome, violent and beautiful 3.5 seconds in all of Motorsport!

I used to go to travel from the Monterey Bay to Red Bluff, CA, about 15 years ago to watch these amazing drag boats. However, I've kinda switched my allegence to UFOs, which routinely go from 0.00 to thousands of miles per second in, say, about 1/100 of a second! And, I've seen a few!
These races are way more impressive and exciting than any top fuel drag race on the track If you ever get the chance to go to Chowchilla go to this race it’s awesome
I had a haines 1900SO with over 300Hp (very impressive - look it up) but I was "travelling" at about 130kph on the Gold Coast thinking I was doing good, Oz and........ ummmmm, a twin engined monster ate me up? I looked it up and guess what..... it was Mick Doohan..... hahahaha
I used to go to Berenda Reservoir to see the drag boats Eddie Hill's Texan, Tim Morgan's Flying Machine, the Tuttle Bros. Nitro Express and Nitro Bandit. This was before the enclosed capsules and those guy's where insane to watch. Open cockpit with a little parachute built into their life vest with the ripcord clipper to the Blower scoop anything that happened could open the chute and yank them clear. Several drivers were killed when they got jerked out of the boat, but not fast enough to be clear if the boat did a backflip. Lot of respect for those IHBA (International Hot Boat Association) Pilots. .
I love it, and the drivers, good family fun...teach the kids as well, because you’ ll never have enough $ for all bad stuff if you need a new prop! & RIP to Pat Kelley ( sparechange, Sanger, etc out of Lake Elsinore CA)
5:35min.. look at all the levers and rods and bolt studs( pointing inward) Do these guys get ripped up when they are ejected ..? Foam rubber on everything could help reduce injury. How many g’s do these pilots experience in a crash? 20?
They're set inside what is basically a sealed pod. The pod is designed to separate from the rest of the boat in case of a wreck. They have air tanks and breathing apparatus to contain them until help arrives. Each pod is fit to the individual driver. So to answer your question, sure they get plenty beat up in a wreck, ut you have to expect that at speeds ranging from over 100-270 mph.
I grew up in the late 60s an early 70s in Long Beach watching the drag boats my best friend ran the hospital boat we used to call it anyway I'm very upset about Lucas Oil dropping the drag boats I knew the big company would fail it takes small guy with his hands on it to make it work that's been through it I've also ran the boats anyway I'm willing to give all my time to come up with a different organization or maybe bring back the ndba versus the ihba anyway or you both guys have to remember that it takes a small guy to make this work you can't have just a handful of big boys doing it because it can't work that way and they don't show anything on the movies or any film to see the small guy run show the small guy it's just as fun bring the boats a little closer I know it's dangerous sometimes but anyway that's my thoughts.

Crank normally good for like 10 or 15 passes the pistions 1. Block normally 10 or 15 depending on if it blew a rod or not and some other shit only last a few passes then they rebuild it completely every run
but catamarans go faster:back in the late '60 Renato Molinari and his father Angelo,living and working in Laglio,near me,introduced this kind of boats in outboard racing and Renato won 15 World Championships.of course it's not the same then drag racing..excuse my english,i'm italian
Carletto, because running this kind of power up to 270+ mph (434+ kph) under 3.4 sec in 1,000 feet on a pocket of trapped air is about the same as running a barn door at that speed and time and is far too unstable. The outrigger hull has been the biggest safety advancement since the inception of the detachable breakaway fully enclosed capsule for this class and quite possibly other pro classes in this motorsport.
