A guiding principle all devs need: _The reward needs to be proportional to the challenge of the area_ Otherwise it poisons the perception within goal-oriented players (not so much for process-oriented players) which bleeds into their judgement for the remainder of the game. You see this in negative reviews of Elden Ring: _I spent 90min in a catacomb and all i got to show for it was a stinkin' melted mushroom..._
1) The reward for defeating Metyr is knowing you rid the world of an insane heretic (and also the most unique staff in the game) 2) Cherishing Fingers is possibly the best defensive spell in the game
Very true about Elden Ring, I watched xqc stream it on Kick and I dont understand why half of the items are where they are? most of them are useless 😂 But now thinking about it perhaps it is made that way just to reward players exploring around?
Oh it’s even worse in Dragon Age 3. So many cool locations to explore, tough enemies and all you get is a “rare cloth” or a “basic blade” at the end of a dungeon(rare chest). SOMETHING I CAN BUY IN THE STORE! Hooray 🙄
@tubensalat1453 if you collect 97 feathers and don't know where to find the last 3 and have no way to track them, absolutely! The cape you get makes guards attack you on site as long as you wear it to add insult to injury. Unless you're in it for the story beat or trophy, total waste of time.
@@tubensalat1453 Back when there were no internetguides to show us the way? hell yeah it was hard! In this day and age it’s easy but back then? Nope! I count it as hard! But in a way I get your point. It wasn’t ”hard” but finding them all was kinda difficult
8:40, Symphony of the Night's poison mist upgrade. Several things wrong, here. Firstly, Jake claims the mist only does 1 or 2 damage per tick, then the footage clearly shows it doing about 30 per tick. It's not supposed to be a dedicated attack, unto itself, but rather a way to add chip damage while also granting Alucard invincibility. Secondly, the room with the upgrade for it isn't locked behind defeating Galamoth. Galamoth's boss room is on the right, the gas cloud upgrade is in the room on the left, across from the boss room. It's there to give you a way to chip at Galamoth's HP while avoid his lightning attack, y'know, in case you didn't know about the special attack you can perform by using the Shield Rod in combination with the Alucard Shield.
Gotta say every chest in Skyrim should be on this list. “Oh you defeated hundreds of enemies and explored the depths of blackreach? Here’s a heavy steel suit of armor that makes your prices at vendors cost 5% less”
I've got some good items from those chests though. I got a Mace that did 20 Fire Damage, a Shield that blocks 30% Fire Spells, Boots that increase carrying capacity by 25...
The vase quest is super easy! For anyone that wants to do it just leave a port crystal at the sphinx where the vase is, go to or teleport to where the guy is that wants to vase, physically pick him up and teleport back to sphinx, put him down next to vase, quest done is 2 minutes lol
Anytime the reward for beating the games hardest whatever is an even stronger weapon, I get frustrated. Congrats, here's the ubermegaultimatesuper sword so you can defeat... Oh, wait there's nothing left to defeat...
@@heroman2372 you know I consider myself a gamer but I hate ng+ anything. Rather just play a new game and learn /see more than just replay the same game over and over again
I think the easiest fix is a well balanced NG+ to play through again from the start but everything is harder and you have all your stuff from the first time, allowing you a second play through to use all your gear and weapons and still have some challenge.
Top item you get is a little notification with a sound and a platinum trophy that makes you happy for five seconds. PS - FF7 Rebirth Johnnys trophy made me cry.
Yeah as soon as he mentioned the Forge I was like "what is he on? Those armor pieces were great!" Had to stick around for him to just bash the weapons.
Yo Jake and Gameranx... Another interesting video which, I'm watching after work... I remember getting hyped up for the Winter's Blade in the Witcher 3. However despite doing his son and daughter's quests, Winters Blade turned out to be a garbage weapon... I just kept using my Urisine swords... Like always, love you all...
I mean... In sotn you are literally invulnerable in mist form and now you do damage... Isn't the most powerful thing in the world, after all sotn isn't exactly known for being the hardest Castlevania... It's one of the easiest. But still is the power who gives you the opportunity to dodge any attack in the game and you deal damage back for free... And I'm pretty sure you move faster when you get poison mist...
Or they give you a piece of gear that is leagues below the gear you would need to beat said challenge. Like literal junk is the devs trying to be funny but a piece of gear that is obviously lower level than the gear required to do it is like salt in the wounds.
The worst part about the party animal in Rebirth is the quest was glitched for a while. Ah come on Jake. You cheesed the Lynels?! They weren’t that hard.
There are so many items you get this way that are essentially just there for bragging rights. The Korok seeds quest is doubly frustrating not just because you have to collect 900, but also because Breath of the Wild has one of the BIGGEST maps in Zelda games! Finding and using the Korok Mask helps a bit, but you'll probably spend less time completing every single Shrine than going on this mad scavenger hunt 😑 (And there are A LOT of Shrines, not counting the extra ones from the Champions Ballad DLC.)
Super Mario RPG's post-game challenge bosses were just a pain and not worth it, IMO. I couldn't beat Belome and just didn't even bother with it and considered myself done with the game. Though I'll still replay the main game every few years, just now on Switch instead of SNES.
11:21 No? The finger spells are insanely powerful, this shouldn’t have been included on the list. Especially since one of the rewards for the quest is the Cherished Fingers spell, not just the robes.
As ugly as Ymir's robe is, it is true that the effect is highlevel since the Fingersorceries are one of those things which are fairly easy to use even in PvP.
Surprised to see the whole Scientology/Kifflom chain of missions in GTAV didn't make this list (really only a regret if you deliver the money during the last mission instead of stealing it for yourself)
The reward for beating the mother of fingers is easily better than what you get from Ymir. The staff of the great beyond lets you cast sorceries and incantations. Basically carried me through the DLC.
0:08 3 souls clips to start off strong, so you can know what they wish they did 8:46 you already knew Elden Ring was going to be mentioned. I’m waiting for them to drop a weeks long video on just souls game so I can ignore it
So the Elden Ring quest has another reward. If you complete it and then give Jolan an Iris of Occulation you get her armor, which is awesome, and a unique katana called the Sword of Knight which will always deal an amount of unblockable damage to enemies
The one challenge I have never gotten because its a whole lot of work for nothing was getting the car in Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch. Basically you have to beat the game and finish all requests which include some ridiculous bosses to get the ability to travel faster on the world map. You're completely done with the game at that point and literally do not have to travel any more. If the game had a NG+ feature or you could transfer over some items to a brand new save it wouldn't be that bad but its such a horrible reward for such a long investment. Another challenge for bad reward was beating Yiazmat in FF12. It is another example of something you get at the end of the game when there is nothing else left to do. Also you only get a small piece of item you can make so you have to beat at least one more superboss in order to craft your 'true' reward. Such a headache to try to do. With the Zodiac Age edition you have a little more you can do with that weapon but its still not really worth it.
I never found the sphinx in Dogma 2, but Djinn/Genie and riddle rules dictates you should have resorted to teleporting the recipient to the vase from the get-go lmao
The challenge for me in video games is the Vid Master challenges in the halo series, long, time consuming and tedious BUT some of my best memories was getting a group of friends together to do them and for what? The Haybusa armour which wasn’t even that cool… worth it? You tell me.
One of hardest and dumbest game challenge I regretted is the original Mario 64 on N64. Getting all the stars on every level is not a problem, but getting 100 coins on every level to get that extra star was frustrating. And when completed you get a canon outside the castle to take you on the rooftop to see Yoshi and he give you 100 lives when there's nothing else to do on the game.
I can match that, game called “Arc Rise Fantasia” theres was a secret hidden place along with the one the most time consuming boss in the game, and the worst part when you beat it and you practically get nothing than the normal battle rewards.
For FF7 Rebirth, the Reward for doing Bonds of Friendship is way worse compared to the challenge you do. For defeating 10 of the most difficult enemies in the game with an Ai companion whose loadout you can't edit, you get the Ribbon, an incredibly niche item whose effects you can get from other spells and is outclassed by other items.
I wouldn’t go that far…. There’s other spells and items you can use to cover status aliments that Ribbon covers. But you use up more space and ATB, AND it’s only covering 1-2 status aliments. Instead of Ribbon that covers everything!
For DD2 you can use the sealing phial to bring the NPC to the location of the breakable vase, so that you never have to move it! Seal him. Fast travel to the sphinx and then unseal the NPC from the vial in front of the vase!
I got every reward you can get from that game. And as soon as I found out, you didn’t get anything for mortal journey I didn’t even try. I don’t think I could’ve beat it anyway.
I think the Path of Pain in hollow knight wasn't worth it as the reward wasn't usable in anything, and I found that out the hard way... Maybe I just havn't found the area to use it yet, maybe I did but my brain ignored it
You’re totally wrong about the colosseum in TotK. The Lynels are not that hard to beat if you approach it right, they give you some of the best crafting and fuse items, and Majora’s Mask is absolutely great while exploring. The only things it doesn’t pacify is Keese and Likelikes, which will agro any other enemies in the area, but it’s amazing for clearing the map without having to burn through all of your weapons.
War of Warcraft Frostmourne Returns🗡️❄️The legendary blade is back and beckons to be wielded! Claim the frozen throne as yours with the Frostmourne sword, pedestal and wall mount that await your collection.
Final Fantasy 12 original ps2 US release: the Wyrmhero Blade. You got this weapon for finishing every hunt and every superboss including all espers and Yiazmat. Leaving you with nothing to use it against. In the Zodiac Age there was a secret weapon, Seitengrat, but that's more of an easter egg to find or get with RNG manipulation
One that I found irritating was the Deathbringer from FFXI. First you have to unlock the dark knight by getting 100 kills with the worst great sword in the game. Then get another 100 kills (or 200 if you threw it away and got another) for a mildly better great sword that becomes obsolete incredibly early.
Idk about #2, but if you practice, Lynels become the easiest enemies in the game, in my opinion. I used to farm the Coliseum not for the reward itself but for the Lynel horns, which make amazing weapons.
My experience with Paul from Dead rising remake : Gets stuck between a candy machine and chair then proceeds to say “ I’m not chicken..I’m not chicken” without being able to attack or move! Easiest part of the game for me that’s for sure.
Paper Mario does the exact same thing as RPG, but twice in the same game! If you defeat all the challengers in the Arena you get a Champion Belt that does nothing. And then eventually you unlock a secret boss fight in the Arena, Prince Mush! And when you beat him you get the Princes original Championship Belt…. That also does nothing!
When you take of picture of Paul with his crotch on fire it classifies as an outtake, which means the game classifies it as comedy. Just needed to share that
Okay, I know lyonels are a pain in ToTK, but like, watch one video on how to beat them easily and practice it a little, and they are way easier to beat afterwards. Without even needing to cheese it, might I add
Fighting the lynels gives you their parts, which you can use to make the best weapons in the game. It’s an easy fight if you enter with a bunch of bat’s eyes, puffshrooms and a good shield
The pipe thing is a Japanese lesson on honesty. You're supposed to decline both the gold and silver items and the lady running the thing gives you all three. I don't know about the game but that's normally how it goes.
the Zelda one, I used that arena as a farming spot for lynel's horn and bow. lynel has obvious attack pattern for flurry rush. It was fun to fight once you know how.
BG3 Armor and shield, and all the strong weapons come almost right after... Like Blood of Lathendar in the Crèche. One of the easiest boss too if you know how to control him. He's a machine so he's got his weaknesses even tho you cant do dmg without the lava ;) D&D gotta thing outside the box. Something is stuck? try throwing a grease bottle at it Love your videos dudes
On the zelda games, the arena is not so bad if you use the hability to go up a construction and then use the stop time arrow on the monsters. Also, the best reward of them is the monsters drops. Very good weapons.
I still feel like Sephiroth in Kingdom Hearts 2 deserves a spot on one of these lists. Or at least an honorable mention. That dude tormented my childhood. At least his reward was woth it
I clear out the Floating Colosseum every blood moon. I have a wall mounted cannon and laser set up I can stand in after locking it above the roar range. I put that on the wall, start the fight, get in my device, start it up, and go afk until the battery runs out.
Best left forgotten in Fallout 4: Far Harbour. Easily the worst thing in the whole game, it takes ages to get where you need to go and then you have to literally guess your way through boring computer puzzles because the game doesn't explain how to do them. It's just guess, nope, guess, nope, guess, nope, 300 hundred guesses later, guess, Yayyy! And what do you get for wasting these precious hours of your life? 500XP, it might as well pull down it's pants and moon at you while singing 'Naa na na na naaaa' It pissed me off so bad I put the game down and never went back.
So fed up of hearing about Elden Ringpiece. Load game, mash controller buttons a billion times whilst rolling around on the floor like a prick, rinse and repeat.
I know at least in Monster Hunter World if you do every single hunt in the base game you get to ranbow die your armor. If you do every single quest in Iceborn, everyone says good job.

Does the last gauntlet of strenght in Sekiro count? You get nothing for beating every single boss in a single run. Nothing. except bragging rights.
Tekken 3. Finish Tekken Force mode 4 times, beat the extra boss fight, only to unlock Doctor Bosconovich, who can barely stand.
Having fun with the new NBA games is a new challenge.
Anyone else instantly skipping the playstation exclusives?
If I've never played something I will never know if it's a good or not
BG3 Armor and shield, and all the strong weapons come almost right after... Like Blood of Lathendar in the Crèche. One of the easiest boss too if you know how to control him. He's a machine so he's got his weaknesses even tho you cant do dmg without the lava ;) D&D gotta thing outside the box. Something is stuck? try throwing a grease bottle at it
Love your videos dudes
I hate how developers don't seem to respect their gamers time anymore. If you're gonna ask something stupid from me, give me something amazing
20:29 On the vase in Dragon's Dogma 2, you're supposed to bring the man to the vase, not the vase to the man. You can ferrystone while carrying people
👍🏼
This. One of the easier riddles.
I was watching like 😂😂😂😂😂
As mentioned in the vid.
They mention it in the video. But overall: The Sphinx quest was overhyped and had some really dumb solutions across the board.
That BG3 one is unfortunate. I did the heavy armor and the shield and did not regret that. Guess my always defensive mind set in rpgs paid off.
Adamantine armor sets and shield are hell good until act 3 - you made the right choice ;)
Can't wait to play ffvii rebirth!! I'm Not paying $1000 for it though. Bring it out on pc already!!!
Challenges can be fun but I would never force myself to do tedious or boring ones😄
Maybe next time we'll get a golden toilet, in which to put the golden turd😁
Man, I'm a trophy hunter. I've done so much dumb things for a 2 second rush of dopamine to the head. 😅
Yeah, but everytime you open your trophy list and see that platnium icon next to a really hard game you get the slightest hit all over again.
I can’t wait to replay Rebirth once I get my Pro!! It looks vastly better than the base PS5.
Humorous challenges in the list, in regards to #5 though... Its a reference to the fable "the honest woodcutter", but yea useless weapons to get.
So fed up of hearing about Elden Ringpiece. Load game, mash controller buttons a billion times whilst rolling around on the floor like a prick, rinse and repeat.
I was pretty bummed after beating those Lionels lol
I know at least in Monster Hunter World if you do every single hunt in the base game you get to ranbow die your armor. If you do every single quest in Iceborn, everyone says good job.
Dude, Dark Souls 2 - no bonfire and deathless rings (especially in a single playthrough).
Or Ozma in FFIX
In Xenoblade Chronicles 2 after you finish Dagas's skill tree you unlock a new skill tree. I've never been so pissed in a JRPG
The Adamantine armor and shield were fantastic early items in BG3.
Gold is actually a fairly soft metal.
