After finally getting myself a few packs these past few days, i can say that the base game is incredibly empty. I never once used base game clothes and hair after discovering custom content and the first time I ever had fun with the base game was when I did a rags to riches and the challenge of it made me excited to play.
Challenges make it fun because it gives you goals to play towards. You either need external challenges or self-imposed ones.
Sims 3 actually feels like an almost complete base game I say almost complete because seasons is sadly not included but ignoring seasons Sims 3 feels like a complete package

I remember in TS2, you can play with an already established household like the Pleasants. As soon as you start out in that household, the mom goes to work, the daughters go to school, and you’re left with the father at home who is having an affair with the maid. The wife comes home early, and catches them. You get to decide what happens from there. Not only that, but that SAME MAID is ALSO messing around with DON LOTHARIO. The LORE! TS4 is such a disappointment 😭😭

Those things were scripted, like, if you played with the sisters a burglar would always come in and fulfill a fear that would devastate one of them because she wanted to be rich. Or Don rejecting his fiance on their wedding.
Those are the kind of things that remain in our memories after so many years so of course the solution for future games would be to just script those kind of things on real time, so there's always something interesting happening on the lives of the sims, an algorithm that makes stories.
A soap opera simulator where you want to play just to find out what happens to them in the next episode!
Yeah, every sim feels exactly the same even with different traits.
Since 2008 I have played The Sims 2, In 2019 I started playing The Sims 4 and I must say that yes, it is very pretty, I liked that you can put the objects everywhere, but It is really only pretty. I miss the difficulty to be on the highest position in job like in TS2 and I miss how the pets worked in TS2 and so on. I am very disapointed with TS4 especially when all of the DLCs cost more than 1100€
I would be so happy to see new TS with TS2 gameplay, TS3 open worlds and TS4 aesthetics
I think sims 4 is not aesthetic anymore, maybe in 2014- 2018 but definitely not in 2023. The textures of the game look like PS2 textures.

@@porcirain9143The graphics are still good, they may not be seen as the most modern or cutting edge but that has nothing to do with good. I think the good thing about stylized games is they tend to have a more timeless look to them. Like Sims 2 to me still looks good. Link in the most recent Zelda games is beautiful despite not having the most cutting edge high end graphics.
There’s A TON of weaknesses to Sims 4, but I wouldn’t put the graphics as one of those. It’s still a pretty game.

In my opinion I would give it a 0/10 because I have played the sims 4 before without any packs and I was boring as hell there was a couple of glitches and the same for lags but I really find it boring 😭
How long ago was that? I first started playing the sims about a year ago with only the base game and I’d say it wasn’t that bad, especially if you can add mods and cc it’s a fine game
I played the game with packs and it is very boring and glitchy. If I’m putting money into EA I should expect quality. I’m just going to go back to the Sims 3. There’s not a lot of story or consequence like in the sims 2 and 3. They completely ruined the lore the Sims used to have.

I agree, completely 0/10, or at least 3/10, I only have city living as a pack, if growing together was basegame it would be a lot better!!!
But sadly it's so gen z and child friendly, so horribly safe and glitchy, I really wanna hope project rene or the sims 5 if it is the sims 5 will come to rise over the sims games, especially the sims 4 !

CC creators make the sims for me, there are some incredibly talented people out there which enables me to do some great builds, and the community of course!
1:22 - I think the whole reason EA eventually made the Base Game free was because they knew people would have to buy at least 4 packs (more like 10+) to make it actually playable beyond a few hours.

Multitasking is much better in Sims 1 than in Sims 4! Even Sims 1 can talk while eating or watching tv and you can arrange their future actions but in Sims 4 it's impossible, because if you do so, they take the plate and go to pee - still eating! It's so stupid 😆
I have almost every pack on my Xbox. Ive been playing and building like that for years now. Recently, I switched to pc and have been playing base game only since it’s free. Building isn’t as fun without a load of packs, but honestly, I enjoy the updates they’ve made to basegame. I really wish since it is free, they would put more effort into adding more base game gameplay. Other than that. I have high expectations for the next EA sim game
When it came out I stopped playing for 5 years. I loved Sims 3 but my MacBook Pro couldn’t handle it and I had to stop playing. I couldn’t believe how bad it was at launch. Now I own every DLC but it’s pretty much for building, glitches in gameplay make it frustrating. That said I’m so excited for For Rent, sure to be let down but I’m holding to hope. 😂
4:47 I filled Newcrest with a bunch of off brand builds and custom characters, mainly stuff from other non-life simulator games.
Style Influencer does have a work from home option. This might have been a pre-City Living update to that career only. I consider TS4 aspirations to be hobbies or goals rather than overarching driving forces like in TS2. I switch back and forth since that is part of the game (without cheating) and it's realistic to have multiple interests and goals.
I have 2 basegame only saves that I find very satisfying. I find them more challenging than when I have all packs installed. One I did a 100 baby challenge, and the other I'm doing an adjusted rules Not So Berry. The number one thing a person needs to find this game satisfying is imagination. W/NSB you have your basic goals/rules each generation, but to watch the story unfold before you is great fun.
I find fewer players play the ingame Sims in TS4 than in any other generation. It drives me nuts to hear players that have never played the OG games call the ingame Sims NPCs. If they ship in a home, they are neighbors. If they ship without a home but not with a specific purpose, they are townies. If they ship with a specific task but can be moved into a home they are service Sims. If they cannot be moved in, then and only then, they are NPCs.
Multitasking is overrated. When they do it, it slows down both tasks. If someone comes up to my child while she is doing her art in inspired mode, I end the conversation so she doesn't drop out of inspiration before she's finished.
I love designing bb & cas, i think the tools given to us are really great. but yes, then dunno what to do with live mode, other than managing their needs, or travelling to other lots. I'm not creative at pretend play even since childhood, so i dunno what to do.
when the sim starts picking up something to do autonomously e.g. cross-stitch, i was so happy lol. i hope they continue doing things autonomously (preferably something i consider as good, because i'm not into evil lol, but that'll be fun too).
I wish I could play the sims 2 as I hear you talk about it. I play A version of it as a kid on the ps2, but it didn't have like, any of the features. You couldn't have kids, there wasn't a whole lot of "go out and do" you speak of, only rabitholes. I also remember struggling to set proper family relationships, so one family I made of me and my sister started flirting with each other autonomously. I don't know if that was also something excluded, but yeah. With that being my experience, TS4 had me excited because there were so many other things to do outside the household. I did also play TS3 on console, Xbox360, but that didn't have all the features either. It had an open neighborhood, though truthfully I remember little about it. Until a couple months ago, I had been playing the Sims 3 on my pc, though. It just stopped working one day
You can play the sims 3 without any mods or packs and have so much fun.
Do the same with the sims 4 and you'll be instantly bored. EVEN when trying challenges.
Yep, because TS4 is just set dressing or a doll house. It's meant to look pretty and be "easy mode" for people who don't want to bother too much.

I did have fun with Sims 4 base game as a late arrival to Sims 4. i still think Sims 2 is the gold standard Sims game and really I think a good Sims game would be Sims 2 with story progression and the build mode and CAS of Sims 4.
I actually do not want an open world as it was kind of a mess to play in when it was working and wasn’t crashing. What I would like is open regions/neighborhood areas like if I go to my neighbors house or a shop on the same block, no loading screen. But if I am going to an entirely different neighborhood area, I don’t mind it so much if it reduce performance issues.
I also want the simulation to actually send people to work/school when I am not playing them and have a real economy. Like if you hire a Sims and pay them, the money made goes to the the sim and not out into imaginary land ether (like it does in sims 4). And if you open a retail shop it would be nice if the sim buys something, when you go to there house they have it. I also want to go back to actually having to change clothes at a dresser or wardrobe (like Sims 2) and having to buy additional outfits over time (like Sims 2) instead of immediate access to all of CAS (unpopular opinion, I know).
My biggest incentive to play is just to fix everything lol. Fix the townies and houses then leave

Its bad when you need mods to make a game function and for some lore and less incestuous game play to occur lool. Ive never been a massive mod player until the past year or so, but i want to create immersive stroylines even if I like to play one family based stories at a time. Ive recently played the sims 2 with and without mods. But the mods i mainly use are some aesthetic changes and some game play modifications , such as community lots and home lot times matching when sims visit them. Thats one thing that always has grated me. The Sims 4 is easier and i like that sometimes but theres less challenges and more micro management involved. Im a massive gameplay fan in all sims games instead of building or aim creation. So if i had a choise of the other sims games in the franchise,at base game level, instead if the sims 4 base game gameplay; i would then choose the previous predecessors in a heartbeat 💓. It all jisut seems like a set dressing in the sims 4, indeed a fantasy land.

when the sims 4 first came out i remember i played for like 20 minutes a day and then fully quit until one day like a year later i saw my mom had bought 3 packs and i got back into it and kept adding to the collection on her account
This might be a very unpopular opinion, but I like the base game Sims. Obviously it gets better and better the more packs you buy but I remember starting as a new player and not feeling extremely overwhelmed and I think that’s what got me into playing the Sims more regularly. I think the Sims has grown a lot as a game, and don’t get me wrong it still has many challenges to overcome, but overall is a very good gaming experience.
I'm redoing Newcrest now that we have so many different packs & so many different places we can make, it's actually been so fun!

What is the best chracter creator you saw? I think sims 4 have a lot more option than most games in this aspect.
I think as far as making the look of a character, Sims 4 is pretty strong but as far as giving them actual character behaviors, it’s fairly weak.
I made my adult sim’s dad mean on purpose but while he gets a happy moodlet from being mean to his son’s fiancee when I make it happen, otherwise he is just a nice old guy and will litterally proceed a mean interaction with a nice one unless I keep it going long enough to get them in the red. And it’s not like he even gets upset when he’s nice. Believe me if I made a Sim with negative traits in 2 or 3 they would be total jerks, like I wanted.

Social events can't go without me forcefully containing them in one room. Its been a thing since TS3 for me, but at least I used to be able to group them or forcefully drag them back to the venue with occasional errors of being stuck.

Another thing i appreciate about sims 4 is the cross-pack gameplay. At least they try to make possible interactions between packs. Hope they continue to add more gameplay to help my uncreative mind lol

I do not do this. I'm not a Sims player, though (in the sense that I'm not a dedicated player for years back). I got all my gaming habits from D&D, so I'm happy without a set win condition. I don't want to play FF lol. I see this as a problem between EA and simmers. The old games (which I played, but not very much) gave you the rails to play on if you wanted them, where TS4 completely took them off. Same as every other modern entertainment company, they're alienating their dedicated customers in favor of the chance to get a bunch of new ones. I wish they'd hurry up and learn that that never works. There are years of financial reporting to prove this, in gaming alone, but also Hollywood, comics and everything else
1:23 I disagree about it being done deliberately to sell packs… I think it’s more that the fashion is just more than a decade out of date and its very noticeable.
When i look back at the worlds, only then i realize that actually all lots displayed on Willow Creek and Oasis Spring, and Newcrest too, are playable.
Compare with other recent expansion packs' worlds, in the EP worlds, you notice there are many set dressing displayed on the map, that you cannot even click or enter. At least in base game, all lots are playable, or maybe their set dressing is only on the outskirt/border as backgrounds. Or maybe it's not being displayed on the map, because they're only like unclickable neighbours houses, which does not have functional purposes.
EP worlds usually have the set dressing at the center, and displayed on the map. Maybe because they serve as event/festival venues, so it is shown on the map?

I love the idea of them remaking the base game worlds and households and I agree that New Crest is kinda useless, no one wants to keep rebuilding it everytime we play a new save.
One thing I wish they did was invite simmers to build lots like they have been doing for new packs and then add 4 prepare households (Willow Creek and Oasis Springs have 4 each), paying homage to Sims 1:
- The Newbies;
- The Mashugas;
- The Burbs;
- Melissa and Chris from the sims 1 Roomies Household, maybe living with Michael Bachelor (Bella Goths brother) as a 3 friends roommate system.
I kinda disagree about newcrest. My newcrest is a mesh of the gallery and original builds and while I would prefer a build a world tool or at least free additional lot placement, having a world with nothing in it means I am not knocking down existing stuff to build something at least marginally entirely custom. I didn’t know what to do with it at first, but now it’s my favorite world. I have two saves where I have done nothing with it, but I also don’t need it in those saves so it’s not a big deal.
@@TheDawnofVanlife man, it takes too long to load up and place every lot. Thats the issue. I would rather have an option when creating a save file to have an empty/all lots bulldozed/uninhabited in all worlds to have a clean slate than never using New Crest.
@@enigmaoffc3148Honestly, when I jumped into Sims 4 (late in it’s life) I didn’t bother with Newcrest and didn’t miss it. Willow Creek and Oasis Springs were enough. But when I did want to prep something custom, it was a blast to have a clean slate. I didn’t expect gameplay to be anything but building when I decided to dive in.
I built a Sims 2 world with a map I made in SimCity4 just cause I wanted to test the feature across the games. It wasn’t a great world, but it was mine and that took about two weeks from terraine work to having a playable map. Don’t know that I’d ever do it again because I am not really a builder (I customize for story telling) but it was fun to do once and I knew the gameplay was going to be building until the project was done. So when I finally filled in Newcrest I wasn’t expecting it to be quick, lol. It’s a relatively easy world to ignore if you only have base game and even easier to ignore if you have packs and plenty of other worlds. But for people who want to build, it’s the closest they get to a proper blank slate.
Was Satch playing with a household of various Shanice Shanices in this video? The very idea is very amusing to me. lol
If sims 4 can be controlled like how you control an RPG character, instead of clicking, that'll be great to enjoy the world's aesthetic. Sims 4 has first person mode, but it's difficult to use, the movement is not stable, and you still need to click using a mouse to make the sim do something.
I hope this can be updated so it'll move smoothly & can interact easily using keyboard/customized/console controls, like RPG game. The one thing that resemble this other than first person mode is the jogging/walking/hiking action. But again, you cannot easily interact/control them.
🤔 Maybe ? , the multiplayer in Project Olympus . Was suppose to be a filler for the lack of gameplay.
So , When Olympus eventually became the Sims 4 . And single player experience . The lack depth and gameplay shine through. Because they wanted the players to generate The gaming experience . While they only focused on the cosmetic . Aka CAS & Build mode .

I was just saying the other day how the Sims 4 is almost 10 years old and still an incomplete game with only getting some things I felt like were required features for a life simulation game this year!
Honestly I was waiting for next episode of haunted ranch... but maybe with 4 rent u will do an let's play its hard to come by adult (good) humour let's play for the sims 4 😂
The Family tree is stuffed up. Even in Growing Together, the Luna- Sullivan shown them as not being related, also with High School Prescott and Lum household who were related are not showing as related. So The Sims have ruined the family tree again, which was another feature that was added and not in the game on release
Let see... Base game now include infant, toddler, pools, ghosts, hot tubs, swimming, ... And many more things.
Willow Creek = New England suburbs. Oasis Spring = Texas suburb. New Crest = Dump ground for lots from the gallery.
I love creating my own stories, it's my favorite thing, so I don't mind that aspect. However, without packs and mods, I'd be bored out of my mind even if I like the storytelling aspect. Mods run the game, that's for sure, as they make even the packs better. It's very sad to see how cash-grabby EA is, but I still enjoy the game as it's a nice escape from real life game for me. However, I don't think I want to play any of the other games at this point because I know I'd enjoy the gameplay way too much and my hyperfixation would abandon ts4 completely for at least a year then, and I really like the cozy feeling I've managed to create in my game. It's so sad to see the way this game fell so hard in comparison to the others, and yet I'm not even a little surprised.
The Sims 4 can be compared to the Truman Show. Trapped in a small community and everybody and the buildings are all part of a set. All of the ambitious end up being a let down that go no where.
modders are literally carrying bg players. Ngl they should have like more blank worlds (with different lot sizes. like 64x64)

California is over-represented in the game, really. Between Oasis Springs, Del Sol, San Myshuno and San Sequoia. And yet Oregon only got Evergreen Harbor. Sad!

Hey Satch! Xbox simmer here! I LOVE your honest reviews and videos!! I’ve had to stop buying game packs and expansions due to the lack of game play and ambition! It’s funny but it’s actually so sad that the sims 4 isn’t worth the £1000+ price tag it comes with! Base game is so boring and for someone who can’t have mods, the game is hard to enjoy for more than 5 minutes. Build mode on console is hard and tedious, loading screens are LONG and the game force closes all the time 😢 I wish ea would just listen to you and stop avoiding the criticism

I started playing TS4 in 2021. As a very gameplay/character focused person btw, don't care about building. I got bored in just ONE day. Never been the case in any other tittle in the series, their base games kept me entertained for a good while. Anyhow, I got back to TS4 when there was a sale so I grabbed some packs catered to my interests which immediately made the game way more enjoyable. Also mods. I couldn't imagine playing TS4 without mods. In previous games I downloaded a shitton of CC but hardly any gameplay mods, with TS4 it's the other way around: hardly any CC but shitton of gameplay mods.
Having plaid TS2 and TS3 base games, I'd give The Shit 4... 0/10. A huge big no. It didn't just strip open world, color wheel and a tons of other stuff during launch, it stripped fun, drama, free will, wishes, fears... And countless others.

The team really spent all the time on CAS and build mode, they just gave us a "create your own RPG game." Like, don't give me a job to do, bro. People get paid big bucks to write stories for RPGs. I'm not setting up my own situation and writing the whole story for myself to enjoy. It's like trying to tickle yourself.
Exactly. I can't be bothered with this pretend freedom. To a certain extent, I need a structure that guides me a little. If the game is done well, this can then lead to a good kind of freedom.

First thing I do in a new save is delete the Goth and Caliente family and put the old ones back it. Why did the Goths change race? And they did Katrina dirty with that update, she looks like a bloke in a wig.

Man, i feel old when you said sims 4 has been released for 9 years 😅
This is my unpopular opinion on the sims 4: I like the closed world system. In the sims 3, all the commercial lots would be empty or near empty, because all the sims where scattered across the world. Because you go through a loading screen in the sims 4, a lot of simmers are teleported to the lot, making the world actually feel more alive imo.
But that had nothing to do with open/closed worlds. EA tends to put limits in the sims games that are dumb, like now we can only have 99 apartment units in a save. Yes, not everyone will reach that limit, but why bother limiting then? Só we don't complain that the game is lagging? Well, at least they should add an option on the configuration menu. There's a recente mod for Sims 3 that rewrites the limitações EA had written in sims 3 code and the world feels more alive than Sims 4, but you need a good computer to run it without issues.
People playing on a shitty pc had this problem. I’ve played the sims 3 since 2009 on gaming rigs and never once had a problem with empty community lots. They are always full, like 10-15 sims at once and that happens even at nighttime. It always depended on what CPU you have.
The sims can run on a shit GPU but you have to run it on a really high end CPU to avoid problems like this and simulation lag/frame rate drops.

Yesterday I needed to play TS4 without any packs and it just sucks. It's incredibly boring and you can't work towards something else. I'm surprised it even got 7/10 since we share the same opinions on all the aspects you talked about
game for play needs gameplay not just setup and go
I'm playing sims 3 over a decade and just played sims 4 for a few months.
In sims 3 even if you give your family best traits like genius/ charismatic/ friendly or even good.
And let them do their stuff autonomously you'll see that genius boy mocking her sister for being ignorant.
Your good father mocks your charismatic mother for her personality and also you'll find them praising the boy for being clever or the good dad brighten the day of her daughter.
These were just bunch of positive traits now mix them with other family with negative traits and the gameplay starts , I promise it will be a challenge to get everything and everyone cool because sims in sims3 are sharp on their personality and you can barely control them .
Only traits makes sims3 a great experience.
With Open world, customization, endless possibilities and ..... . It Will be a huge rich gameplay.
(First you have to learn use mods and tips to make sims3 less buggy)
But as you mentioned sims 4 sims are white sheets and you should give color to them and keep giving them the color because they even don't remember what happened half an hour ago .
I have very vivid memories pf trying really hard to make my sims befreiend someone only for it to fail everytime. Turns out they were always yelling at my sim because they were just evil. I used to love to marry sims from the town even non Story townies because I would make a up a Story for them baded on their traits in the sims 4 you meet random townies and its like "okay so you are friendly, claptomanic and a like cats and you come from no where and are wearing the most hurandous 2010 fashion plus some random cc and and eyeballrong

Sims 3 also had amazing gameplay and not just an open world.
The fact I thought that Sims 4 was going to be best of the sims games and I was going to play it for hours. I was so disappointed when I first open up the game and played it for an hour and closed it. Re download Sims 3 on my computer. Still this day I play S3 for hours.
Same. Every time I bought a new TS4 pack i was excited. Two days later i was uninstalling it and playing TS3. Even buying new packs i never had and i never get bored.
I play base game only (at least right now) but I use a ton of CC. Without mods it's pretty bland.

the sims base game is practically playing dolls the sims aren't people just objects and everything that happens you have to make happen. Its kinda annoying considering the price hope the Sims 5 goes away from the "play your own way motto" and actually makes the sims really people with personalities and choice

Honestly the Sims has a good 3 to 5 years before we get that goodbye message lets face it they dont know what they're doing and they have treated consumers poorly and their game doesnt typically appeal to the masses so when project rene does come out we'll be busy playing with the competition brands THAT LISTENED and the new age consumers will absoloutley rip the new sims game apart limb by limb which will be enough to end the whole franchise i can see it now
