As a child, in the 1950's (born 1948) and living only 1¼ miles from the yard, I used to lie in bed at night listening (if the wind was in the right direction) to the noise of the trucks gently banging into each other as they rolled down the 'hump' and to the noise of the coupling chains rattling and snapping tight as the engines stopped or started. Looking back on it some 65 years later, I now see some sort of romance in those gentle sounds as they lulled me to sleep.
Hi Ray lovely rendation of happy memories which we all have really ln those trying times glad you enjoyed old footage Take care and thank you Alrx. 👲👲👍👍
Thanks Cyprus Man unfortunately never worked there but hopefully someone will remember Ray and give you some happy feedback Thank you for watching and take care Alrx 🚂🚂🚂🚂
@@cyprusman5908 With me, it wasn't railways but aircraft. My Dad took me up for a pleasure flight in a Rapide at Ramsgate in '53/'54 and I was hooked! He started work at London Airport, as it was then called, in '56 working airside for the Ministry of Aviation. When I got to about 10, he moved to BEA as a Despatcher and I used to spend most of my holidays going around the place with him in his van, on and off all the aircraft, talking with the cabin and flight crews; it was just fantastic.
@@cyprusman5908 Yes I do remember Ray Herbert along with a few other drivers and firemen. . Like Reg Gray ,Ron Mitchell , Derrick Lawrence , there are more but the memory is not what it used to be . Didn’t Ray live in Southern Ave or nearby when at Feltham .
Very geeky but since reading a copy of Railway Modeller in 1989 I've always wanted to see some video of Feltham yard! G16s were monstrous! Thanks for the upload, I've waited 32 years!
I grew up opposite the railway near there in the 50s and 60s. We used to play on Hounslow Heath and dare each other to walk the 750 yards through Feltham Cavalry Tunnel, under the yard to Crane Park.
Hi Peter glad you enjoyed upload and brought back happy memories in times like these they are always welcome Take care and thank you please browse my channel Alrx 📽️📽️🚂🚂
Great footage and very rare too, and although the sound is low/poor many thanks to you as few people went to this side of Londons rail network, as in the 60s people too busy taking shots at Kings Cross etc.
What fantastic footage - Feltham was so rarely photographed - having written the two books on British Marshalling yards, most recently the Platform 5 published "Gridiron to Grassland" I'd love to know if you have any good still images of the yard.
Hi Michael glad you enjoyed old footage unfortunately it was just old video I had for years and just uploaded I really think that will be only one but who knows will certainly upload if I find Michael thank you Alrx 🚂🚂
Like looking into a Rolex, watching the running gear on those locos. Very relaxing to watch, thankyou again Alrx 👍👍👍 BTW you're right Rab, Lidl is the only place to go! (We've got seven children who seem to be hungry a lot🙄😀) take care all and good luck👍😃, Regards, Darren.
👍, Alrx. Especially appreciated the 'click' at 3' 06"! Lighter? Your latest upload also focused my found-again wonder of the eccentricity/multi-tasking of the driving wheels.
