  • Tokyo, Japan - Hi there!
A video a very long time in the making - 10 of the best vintage stores in Tokyo that you should visit!
This list is very subjective based on my personal taste and style and experiences shopping at these stores. I have purposely left out designer shops such as Rinkan, Kindall and Ragtag etc. as they are not necessarily my forte / genre of choice!
Due to laptop constraints I couldn't fit some shops in, including: Pigsty (Shimokitazawa), Micmo (Shimokitazawa), Trefac Style
Also! I recently bought a new camera and unfortunately the frame rate for some of the clips did not match the rate for my old camera - hence why the video has several instances of audio / sentences cutting off too early!!
    Timestamps:
    0:00 Intro
    0:32 Berberjin
    1:13 JAM
    2:04 New York Joe Exchange
    2:45 Don Don Down
    3:20 Flamingo
    4:07 Big Time
    4:38 Chicago
    5:13 Re'all
    5:40 Slat
    6:12 Whistler
    7:43 honourable mentions

Also, apologies, the audio / some sentences cut out in parts of the vid…recently got a new camera, which is being a pain in the ass and isn’t super compatible with my editing software atm!!

Hi there used to be youtube clips about the actual 1950s vintage Americana scene in Japan (no not vintage shops but the actual 1950's scene). It was older footage (before y2K generation). I remember seeing very cool dudes decked out in 1950s Americana..and they had there own scene at various swing clubs and bebop bars etc. No i am not talking about the leather clad Elvis characters that dance at Yoji park either- it was something different and much cooler....now i cant find it anywhere on youtube. Do you happen to know where i can track down these uploads? Whenever i search for rockabilly, its always those guys that dance at the park, that comes up.

Any tips on finding retro electronics? eg 80's and 90s walkmans, headsets and other audio elecronics? I live in the suburbs surrounded by thousands of elderly japanese people and I can SENSE the piles of old gear just sitting in their homes gathering dust for the past 30 years. Places like Akihabara are not so great because they usually stockpile all the high-deamand retro items for a premium. I prefer some treasure hunting.

I got 501's in amazing condition at Don Don. I mean the cashier kind of did a double take at the low price. I pointed out they did have a small hole, but still it was like my lucky day. I don't have any suggestions. There was an awesome upstairs shop that closed. 😢 Also, 2nd Street and Kinji, are they still around? Are there any thrift stores that have things for tall men? Or up to like Western XL in men's? I'm Japanese size lol but I want to take my brothers who are big & tall; I know oversized is kinda popular there. They're bang-on XL so would that be too hard to find? I don't want to drag them around if nothing would fit them..
    Also:
Any good spots for anime t shirt? My friend collects them. :) Appreciate ya!

hey bro appreciate the question! I would say in general most stores have Western XL/XXL sizes and some even have 3XL/4XL, but it can be hit or miss. I know one store that’s called UpperUpper located in Ueno that always have super oversized/big sizing, they stock a lot of classic streetwear in their basement and a little workwear at the ground level
      instagram.com/uprupr?igshid=MWQ1ZGUxMzBkMA==
Another shop i know that has some bigger sizing is Fifty Fifty located in Koenji!
Not too familiar with any anime t, but best bet would be to shop around Akihabara, which is like a suburb known for anime, gaming and electronics

bro I'm planning to come in Japan, I love the Japanese americana style, but I have something the make me worried about it. Japanese are known to be pretty skinny guys it seems that you are jacked but I don't know how tall you are. is it possible to find something nice in those place that can actually fit a man who workout and that is 6.2 ft / 220 lbs ? thank you

thank you for watching! Great question, I would say if you’re limited with time, try spend half a day to a day in Koenji, it’s a suburb on the west side of Tokyo around 10-15 mins from Shinjuku station. A lot of the shops on the list (Whistler, Slat, Don Don Down, Big Time and Re’all) are located/have branches in Koenji! If you have more time and want to thrift more, definitely check out Shimokitazawa, another cool suburb!
