I'm kinda overwhelmed at the prospect of being surrounded by so many cool finds at once ~ I def love the cropped layering sweater you got, and seeing all those tabi shoe options .... I'm yellin! Your animation of yourself running with the different outfits is so cute also. I'm glad you had such a fun trip :~)
Talking about cleaning things....my local mom & pop thrift store washes & dries all clothing on site before putting them on the floor for sale!!! The "laundry room" is behind the jewelry counter and you can always hear/smell the laundry process.

Woah! I grew up in the small Swedish village Sennan and always knew there was a Japanese place with the same name but had no idea how it looked. So cool seeing you explore it, and even find a great thrift store! Warms my heart!
Omg i LOVE Kinji!!! i went once a few years ago on a college trip to Shinjuku and i only had 30 minutes but I could’ve stayed all day! Some great finds, I wanna go back so bad I miss it! 😭💕
Since you like travelling, if you ever come to Tuscany, Siena has some amazing gift shops, because there are many rich locals that dump stuff at charity shops and consignment shops to cater to us plebes. I can teach you my secret spots
OMG YES! I’ve always wanted to go to Japan, especially for their fashion!! So this was so cool to see. As you saw in my latest video as well haha😂…thrift stores are absolutely awesome..it’s crazy all the different things you can find, but it’s so cool to see the different types all around the world! My favorite was probably the Osaka shop as well, they had some cool stuff!
I bet haha! But hey they were super cool! The split-toed shoes were pretty cool and interesting as well. Of course though!:) thanks for having me and I’m glad I could🫶🏼
My wife and I just got back from a Japan trip, and we found ourselves in Kamakura. I dragged her to Chapter Vintage because of this video. It is still there, such a lovely shop with a great collection. We picked up a beautiful vintage Class 5 outdoor jacket (70s-80s, from one of the designers who helped found North Face)! It will get many more years of love and wear here in the US- thank you so much for the recommendation!! Kamakura has such a great vintage scene, if anyone here gets the chance to go, jump at it!
What a fun video! Thank you so much for sharing your adventures with us! Still impressed with all your traveling outfits that fit in a carry-on bag! You are so brave traveling off the beaten path and adventurous in your food selections!
that painting by miyamoto-san is so beautiful. It feels chaotic but optimistic and I hope is a good symbol of the fun energy of the trip (or at the very least the energy you create in your videos)
I love Japan ❤. I’m so glad you were able to go. I love the 🦌 in Hiroshima. I thought they were only in Nara. So 🥰 cute. I wasn’t a big fan of Osaka when I went, but that thrift store looked amazing. I would go back just to visit there. If I ever find myself there I’ll have to keep it in mind. 😊 If you are ever in the Kanto area again I hope you can visit Gunma. Its a 2 hour train ride from Tokyo. Gunma is famous for its onsens. Kusatsu is the most famous. If you stay at a cheaper hotel with no onsen there are a bunch of free onsens you can go to. Shima onsen is rumored to be one of the inspiration points for Spirited Away. It’s a really old area and has the long red bridge from the animation. Ikaho onsen area is really great. There are a lot of stairs but the view is great and there a quiet a few artists shops. Takasaki station is a major transit point so the Shinkansen runs through there. You can get to pretty much anywhere from there. Also bus to Tokyo and the airport directly go in and out of Takasaki. If you have to wait for a train or bus they just built a mall next to the station in 2020 and there is a lot of good food. You can even get Gunma’s specialty food Yaki Manju (it’s a grilled bread with sweet miso sauce) Of course there are a bunch of recycle shops and thrift stores. Don don down Wednesday is a really good one to check out if you have not been. I use to live in Gunma. It’s a really great place. I hope you have a chance to go in the future (sorry this go so long. I got excited 😅)
This was amazing! I would love to go to the places you talk about. The vest and pants are so perfect and I have a similar body type so I know what you mean about the fit and pieces being adjustable. Thanks for sharing everything! I also loved the children in hats waving out the train window.🤣
I’m just getting into fashion and going to Japan soon, your videos are a godsend (by the thrift gods), I hope to find something else than the sea of grey, blue, brown and black most men’s fashion is composed of. Also you are very cool!
just did all of my hand washing dishes in the exact amount of time this video was and what a cute coincidence and what a cute video!! love your vibe kathleen ❤
My friend and I found some awesome stuffs in the Nagasaki 2nd Street: a Manhattan Portage waterproof backpack, a Prada wallet, and some awesome Ray-Bans in new condition for a quarter of the original price. Nagasaki never disappoints if you go there!
I used to not like clowns very much, I even had a little aversion. For some reason, slowly over the past 3 years, clowns and circus themes have crept up on me and now I hardly dare to admit it they are some of my favorite things. They pop up everywhere in my decor and whenever I see anything circus themed I am immediately drawn to it and it makes me so happy 😆🎪🤡
When I saw your luggage key necklace I almost screamed I have one too! I got the key for free from this second hand tool shop!! They had a whole box of keys
16:25 Fun fact: It’s actually pronounced “auhi”! You’re right that ふ is pronounced “fu”, but in old Japanese it was pronounced “u” as well. It means “the day to meet”, あふ (au) being “to meet” and ひ (he) being the hiragana for 日, meaning day.
Kathleen - I love your videos. I’ve literally been just watching one after another and again and again - if you ever wanna collab or just be friends, Im from southeast Mich and I’d adore thrifting with ya!! ur video style is great:)
One of the best shopping in Japan vids I’ve seen (and I’ve watched a lot of Japan vids😳 help me..jk) especially the tip about recycle shops! So if/when I go the Japan I’ll be ready to spend some yen! 👍
OMG only partially through this video, but just realized that 2nd Street has US locations now, too??? I visited one in NJ this past weekend and had no idea it was a Japanese company.
What an amazing trip 😍 that area with all the beautiful animals was my favorite, I could live there surrounded by such beauty and feel like a real life snow white 😁
You popping up from behind the shrubs had such “whack-a-mole” vibes. My eyes leaked at Hiroshima. I remember as a young girl when we watched the footage of Hiroshima after it was bombed. The devastation and human suffering was horrific. No words. Up there with the holocaust museum in Israel. I was drooling at the shop with the kitschy fabric and Disney goodies. Especially the Japanese Disney goodies. Oh my.
Thank you. I shop in thrift shops in Japan whenever I pass through. Right now I am preparing to get a Birkenstock haul, e.g. at 2nd Street. However, they make registering for an online account rather complicated: GeoID (whatever that is). Every other country I shop or do business in they speak a different language, practice a different religion or have a different political system. But essentially we are the same people. OK, China is close in being a strange place, but essentially Chinese want to do business with foreigners, things move fast, and they do not go out of their way to be well, odd. . I do not feel this way about Japan. I have been there a dozen times, even lived in Sapporo, but compared to Thailand it is like a Twilight Zone. It is as if I have landed on a different planet. It is *not* foreigner-friendly (even compared to China) and without language skills, a local friend accompanying me and lots of time I find shopping in Japan rather frustrating. This is a warning to fellow thrifters - just show up and shop. Don't try to organize things in advance. Or you will be pulling your hair out.

Woaaah that is dedication. Big props to them
What about clothes that need to be washed in a specific way otherwise they get ruined?
going to japan sounds like the kinda trip where you bring nested suitcases or buy a whole extra suitcase while there for all the cool stuff
100%!!!! I left my suitcase basically half empty 😂
I always come to japan with an empty suitcase, and inside the suitcase, an other empty suitcase, and a backpack haha
If you are ever in Okinawa Japan I will send you a map of everysingle secondhand store on the island. I always love the most chaotic thrift stores!
