Love this one Jordan. My uncle was the property master on all the Hal Roach Laurel and Hardy movies and shorts. The wooden ladder used by L&H to climb into the house is in my basement. It was used in all the Hal Roach shows. There's no proof that it's the one, but my uncle kept a number of old props and that's what he said. It matches all the pictures. I want to donate it to the L&H Museum in Georgia

Jordan trying to drive and park in LA is a full time job and skill in itself! I don’t know how you do it! I would love to explore LA history but the traffic and parking make me want to cry and I have! Most of my trips there have ended in tears.

At the 3:08 and the 18:03 marks, you walked by my first home I was brought home to right after I was born and the next two years of my life. Just over 60 years ago as of 2019. My older sister used to jump rope on the steps and she and my older brother would catch the school bus at the top of the stairs.

James Parrot was the director of The Music Box. Hal Roach Sr. wasnt directing by this point, he was running the studio business. Parrot directed several L&H shorts, 2 reel and 3 reelers. He also directed Our Gang as well.

I used to watch a lot of laurel and hardy stuff growing up in the 60’s .When I was 13 in 1969I was in Whitehorse Yukon I explored a lot and was inside this cafe.I definitely remember a parrot in a cage and sitting at at a table next was an older man whom I recognized instantly from the era of slapstick (I now don’t remember who he was) but did at the time and called him.He was totally floored when I said I recognized him!Well stupid me as a kid I didn’t think of having a conversation with him.

Located near 3000 W Sunset Blvd cross street between 923-935 N Vendome St. I lived 5 houses away from the stairs. You even walked right by it. White rod iron fence gray two-story building with steps leading up to it. 949 N Vendome. My sister used to jump rope on the steps and my brother and sister had to catch the school bus up there every day. White rod iron fence white with steps building. The other picture filmed there in 1945 was called "It's your move". Starring Edgar Kennedy.

My Mother lived with us for 15 years before she passed. Her fathers name had been Ollie and since they only had two girls she got the Ollie name .... but went by her middle name (not Ollie).
She had her share of health problems before she passed and the hospital we would go! Anyway I would tell her ... “Well, another find mess you got us into, Ollie!” And we would have a good laugh! Sure miss her!🌹

While watching this I do recall I saw something about these Music Box steps but I forgot about this info. These will have to be on my to do list next time in L.A. Thanks, Jordan. I really appreciate these videos.

Thats the house there to your left as your going up the stairs my friend, the one with the red porches. In the film, that's where they wound up, on that porch. Hell, its been 90 years, of course it wont look the same. Its probably had a few face lifts and some changes and the rest may have been shot inside a movie studio, but that sure is outside of that house where the fountain once was. See the film again. And pause and see the details. Descanso street has never-ever changed.

My husband, my son, whom was 9 months at the time, and I visited these steps. While we were there taking pictures, my son, whom never pointed at anything before, pointed up the steps, and held his had up in that pointing position for a good 30 seconds, like he was trying to tell us something. That tripped us out. And that's not the only Laurel and Hardy location my son has had strange behavior .

some steps were redone a bit since some started crumbling when this was done a decade or so little pebble size bits could be bought online.
now I see that some steps have new damage so, eBay music box steps pebbles sale part 2?

In another one of these similar walk n talk videos, the guy referred to her as "The Nurse," I myself thought she was a housekeeper too. Nurses don't wear aprons. I've seen the film at least 10 times, and she always looks like a housemaid.

Does anyone notice there was no railing on these steps ,treacherous and dangerous to any one .wow I think these steps were used in a three stooges skit . Great job explaining the changes ,and to walk this older people shouldn't entertain a task as this .kudos to your health. Thanks. Another thing I noticed in the shot looking up there were old wood telephone poles ,now under ground lines .

It's been mentioned before that the stairway used in the 3 Stooges short is not the same one seen here in the Music Box. But it was nearby. Only a few blocks away. The old Silverlake neighborhood has quite a few of these epic staircases scattered about.

you ought to go see and vlog the 3 stooges steps around the corner. it was used in the episode where curly is an iceman who climbs the steps with a big block of ice on his tongs only to have it turn into an ice cube upon delivery. lol

The movie Music Box is an amusing comedy film of the legendary Stan & Olie and is a class apart. But the representation of the steps and recreation of the location is crap and utter nonsense. Don't upload such rotten videos which tarnish the image of the greater comedy duo in the history of world cinema.
