During the 70s and early 80s BBC2 in the UK would show Laurel and Hardy shorts in the early evening. So there’s a whole generation now in their 40s and 50s who love L&H. My dad, who was born in 1935, loved them too. The Music Box was his favourite of their movies. They’re truly the greatest comedy double act of all time.

They also showed Harold Lloyd and old Tarzan movies. I think on Fridays, they showed various silent films.

They show them on Talking Pictures tv in the UK often as well now. Saw some the other day. Twice Two and Laughing Gravy, but I have the DVD collection so don't need to watch it.
      Cheers.

I'm from Italy and you're right. I'm 47 yo now and I could watch L&H in the first 80th. It was the most funny movie for a child in TV. On the other side, I remember also "the little rascals" but I didn't love it like L&H. What memories! Also J. Finleyson was a very funny guy in their movie.

Weihnachtsmann Were Laurel and Hardy films shown on Egyptian television in the 1960s, 70s, 80s? Were their voices dubbed into Arabic, or were there subtitles in Arabic instead? If they were shown on television, did Laurel and Hardy become well-known among Egyptians of all socio-economic groups?

The steps have to be a shrine for Laurel and Hardy fans I would like to go there and Walk the same steps they did about 88 years ago I would celebrate for a week and the best part of the movie scene was when that Englishman walked up to them and said you didn't have to come up the stairs you could have taken the street around to the top the look on their faces was priceless I would also like to see the water box Stanley fell into the whole area in the picture is a shrine to the boys. !!!!!!!!

It's also amazing that the decorative elements of the garages to the right are the same too! It's amazing how rural LA was back in the '30's. It must've really been paradise for these early screen legends.

Laurel & Hardy used this same steps in their earlier silent 1927 comedy short "Hats Off", where they were carrying a washing machine in a similar manner as in the "The Music Box". "Hats Off" is considered a lost film (no surviving copy is known to exist of it), so unfortunately we can't see it today. Let's hope someday someone will discover a print of it and get it released!

I was really inspired by this video, so I went through the whole Music Box Steps Loop. The Loop will have about four extra stairways open to the public that are almost impossible to see, or even know about without the map at the end of the video. Intrestingly... stan laurel lived in north shields in the uk before he moved to the US and became a legend... in north shields fish quay there is an almost identical set of steps which apparently was the inspiration for the idea behind the film.... whereby you climb the steps, reach the top then realise there's a much quicker and easier road running around the side.. ... check it out

Including these two "witty documentarians". You can tell they know nothing about Laurel and Hardy but somehow knew about these steps relating to a classic film. Probably from a college film studies class. And it seems like her only knowledge of "Costello and Abbott", was Billy Crystal talked about them in interviews. Ugh :-(

You can by Laurel and Hardy short and long films on DVD. Ive got the complete set of the Laurel and Hardy produced by Hal Roach including The Music Box. The easiest way buy the DVD’s is by just googling Laurel and Hardy films on DVD. If you go looking round the big stores you’ll search for ever. Don’t buy and order these DVD’s close to Christmas as the price will be Sky high. This is a good time to order these DVD’s at a reasonable price in the UK.

Cool. I always heard about those, but never saw them.Thank you! I'd like to see you do something on Jim Morrison, like his place in laurel canyon where he wrote songs on the hill, and love street, and all that stuff by the Canyon country store, and even that hotel in Hollywood that has the Jim room.?

A couple years ago, we had planned to go out to Jim Morrison's Cave, but the park service closed it because the graffiti was getting out of control. I don't know if they've re-opened it yet.

@@OddityOdysseys Yeah, last I knew it was closed for good. That place got ruined with social media. I was there one time a few years ago, and i had the whole cave to myself, it was so beautiful and peaceful. Then the next year, because it got posted about on social media so much, when I went there there were 30 people in the cave and a band playing! Then they closed it a few months later. But there are other cool "Jim" places, like that hotel in Hollywood that has his room, and his house next to the canyon country store where he wrote people are strange on the hill, etc. Just a thought.

james moe gold I feel if the world slowed down, we'd laugh more. And if we slow down, we'd not get into this lockdown, economic mess we're in now. L&H certainly made us laugh, and in a way taught us to not take ourselves too seriously.

Neat video! Are these the same steps in a Three Stooges short where they attempt to deliver a big block of ice to the top on a hot day? If not, where are those steps?

The "Three Stooges" stairs are about two miles northeast at 2212 Edendale Place.

I miss my hometown!! I’ve been watching all of your videos! I’ve honestly had a couple of rears in my eyes. My parents first house was in Silver Lake right after I was born in 1970. I want so badly to come back!

The Music Box is a black and white film - not colorized like the version you are using here for some reason.
