      @madjack_757  5 месяцев назад +47

      @@phillhansen7238 The idea is that the people you don't want to see out on the trail typically don't go to effort of researching an area. Most areas have some sort of online trace even if its just some moto forum from 13 years ago.
      By not directly spoon feeding people trail names, coordinates, details of how to get places, etc.. It leaves some work involved for people to find these places. I believe those who research how to find them are usually more respectful of the areas.

      @ZacharyCox okay then yeah I think the crf250l is a good bike to start with, but as you get better you will have wanted the crf250x with a street legal kit. The x model comes with a headlight but no plate. If can be converted to be fully street legal tho. The l model is a little more tame and can ride dirt well, but probably won’t like being ridden hard whereas the x model could probably handle harder riding.

Come from a motocross background and liked the higher speeds, it was about 1/3 fire road, 1/3 double track and 1/3 single track. Not really into the super technical single track, or atleast not a lot of it, so it was nice in that regard. There could be more single track there, but never sought it out, heard there was some pretty demanding single track up the road farther around the old North-South Ski Bowl.

      This region can be everything from expert level to pretty mellow. This particular trail for me is about a 5.5/10 or maybe a 6/10. That being said, if you ride too early into the season out here, bring a chainsaw or be good at hopping over logs. Early season conditions can turn this trail into a 8.5/10. You ought to try riding out there mid summer-fall and when it is fall, the colors are fantastic!

    Yesterday I went on an ATV trail in Idaho, and I had to cut at least 10 trees out of the trail. I have a TW200, and I would never take that bike where I went yesterday! Soooooo many rocks, the loose ones AND the embedded ones made for a tough ride. I actually came very close to going over backwards with my Polaris Trail 570. That scared me. I actually have a Ryobi 18 volt 12" chain saw that I can carry on my TW200. I made a holder for my rear rack.
    You go so fast. I do not go fast on either my quad or my TW. Momentum is king in most places, but you can have momentum without speed, like you did with the roots. I am 77 years old, so that may have something to do with the speed thing, although, even when I was younger, I was not very fast. The only time that I did well on a 100 mile cross-country was if the route was hard. Unlike some of the trails that you ride, I think that I could do this one on my TW. I love that little bike.
    99% of the riding that I do is alone, so I always have my PLB (Personal Locater Beacon) with me. Do you ride with one of those? Crap happens, one minute you are cruising along, and the next you are trapped under your bike. Happened to me, I think that I told you about it on another video.
    Nice video. I especially love the drone shots. The front fender camera shots, not so much.

      I'm glad you liked the video! I'm not surprised you had so much deadfall. Idaho has had a huge amount of downed trees this season..
      I try to find my max speed and then take it down a couple notches so that I can keep control of the bike. That TW would be PERFECT on this trail!! Technical riding is the great equalizer for fast riders.
      I always always carry a Garmin In-Reach which allows me to send messages and call a helicopter if necessary. I always carry it in an accessible location just in case what happened to you happens to me!!

      @@madjack_757 Yea, that was so scary. I would have taped out, but I would feel bad for dragging out Search and Rescue just to lift the bike off my leg.
      I carry mine in my hydration pack, so if the bike or quad goes over a cliff, hopefully I am not with it. LOL
      I do most of my riding within 150 miles of Pocatello, but I will keep that trail on my bucket list.

    For everyone complaining, I’d like to share a story that I just told another commenter. The only reason these trails are so nice is because they are upkept by riders like this guy and the trail names aren’t put on blast… there’s this one 4x4 trail near where I went to college called firetower and it’s extremely popular. It has always been popular but at least you needed an high clearance off-road rig for the front and back trail to the summit. Then my 3rd year they gravel paved and filled in the entire frontside trail to where a Subaru could make it up there. People started talking about it a lot and it was packed up there whenever I went. I can sadly tell you that nowadays the firetower at the top is completely trashed by idiots and you can see they bring their guns and paintball guns to plink at the tower. Beer and trash left everywhere, fences cut open. It got so bad that the park service actually gated off the main enterance to the peak and you need to take a EXTREMELY rugged side rout to get through and drive to the summit. People are lazy and don’t like walking 100 feet so that cut back on the traffic a bit.
    There’s a reason the people who enjoy these trails don’t blast them online.

    • @madjack_757
      @madjack_757  5 месяцев назад +2

      Not at all. Idaho forests are very 'wild' in the sense that natural elements are always changing the area. Each year the winter carves away weaker trees and leaves behind large amounts of deadfall. Up in more alpine areas, the trees become more of these tall lanky/skinny trees as opposed to the more wider trunked ones. Idaho has alot of burn areas too from wild fires and this area has seen plenty of fire. Tho when you look at the base of the forest, it is COVERED with fresh growth trees.
      Fun fact- pine cones require fire to open their seed pods and plant new trees!
