Have been gardening for many yrs. Always considered a 50 - 60% survival rate of cuttings pretty good. Tried your suggestion of a Vit.C dip and LOW + BEHOLD am witnessing a 100% take of my cuttings. Thank you very much. Just shows that an old dog can learn new tricks!
Lovely straightforward explanation that we always get from British and Australian/NZ presenters - all you need to know in 3:18 mins. Cutting length and rooting solution was particularly well done.
This is the best video out of all of them. I have tried this way and have fantastic results, so I don’t have to buy any more geraniums. For vitamin C i used diluted lemon juice .
This is the best advice I have found anywhere on line. I used to use root hormones and never had any success. Now, thanks to you I have sixty rooted cuttings of geranium peltatum! Thank you and please keep the videos coming.
IT WORKS!!! THEY ARE GROWING. Your video was perfect. All 10 cuttings successfully. Dip in vitamin C....and everything!. Thank you so much. I love geraniums. Thank you again. Great video. 💐💐💐❤❤❤
I do miss the Vernons family, I used to but my Pellies from them when I was a young lad. Thankfully the large collection of Pelargoniums is now safely looked after by Alwoods nursery. Fibrex are the owners of the National collection of Pelargoniums and have an extensive range of traditional favourites and also have newly released Pelargoniums on sale every year.
Hello my name is Deb, I am new to your Channel today as I have been looking for geranium cuttings videos. I had a huge geraniums in a hanging basket that was caught up in a wind storm that hit our Big Deck. I have lots and lots of geranium cuttings from just that one plant alone. It was about two and a half to three feet across and about the same in heigh. Gorgeous dark pink flowers by the hundreds on huge stalks. Probably the best plant I have over wondered in my sun room/ master bedroom and bathroom. Huge windows and mirrors keep it in perfect sunlight in the house. I felt that I needed to take it outside on my huge deck with hundreds of plants sitting, hangings and growing like crazy. My entire garden is within 10 feet of my deck all the way around it. Totally perfect. Thank you for your video on how to do these cuttings. Take care God bless, Deb
How much vitamin C in that glass? and is it ascorbic or ascorbate? good vid. This makes sense to me, as ascorbic acid (vit c) makes the salad last longer fresh. A cutting needs time to root and in that time rotting may occur, maybe thats how the vit C helps here.
Thank You . I over wintered lots of geraniums last year , but I think I was just lucky. This winter I should be able to sure of keeping them and have more from th cuttings . You seem a very nice lady
thank you for the great video. short sweet and to the point. I just took about 8 cuttings and used rooting hormone on all ....hummm.....I can still take more cuttings....vitamin c... of what? a pill? Emergen-c? sorry. not sure what you mean...can you tell us what product you used? Thank you!
6 months is quite a long winter but it's well worth a try. I would be inclined to check them regularly as Spring approaches to look for any signs of growth. If necessary you could always bring them into brighter conditions on a windowsil or conservatory a little earlier.
After cutting the geraniums down, how long can you keep them in a dry climate over the winter? We have 6 months of winter here in Utah USA. Can I keep them in the garage in a dark box for six months?
Congratulations on everything you do! Please can you advise me what fertilizer to use for variegated pelargonium? They grow hard and the edges of the leaves dry out. Thank you very much! Kind regards!
Took some cuttings from a Brookes Purple mid August following your tips. All are now growing well (with bottom heat) however two of them have sent out a flower stem. I did remove the original ones and was wondering should I remove these now or let them flower.
Remove the flowers while thery are still small - this will divert their energies into making root and leaf growth which is more important at this stage
Hi thanks very much for the reply to my Question on cuttings, found this really helpful! Will also be checking your website for a nice deep red Trailing Geranium, any suggestions as to a great variety please? Thanks Dave
Hi, is it the same method for Trailing Geraniums, my first attempt at cuttings I took 30 from a plant that my late Father gave me and I so much want to keep this going, anyway I took the cuttings on the 10/10/18 and for about six to eight weeks all looked well, but now after 9 weeks all look dead except for three that were in a 3”pot and looking good but the other 27 have bit the dust and they were in 9 cell trays , would be happy for some expert advice please? And I did use rooting compound! Thanks
Same method can be used. It's possible they got too wet in the individual cells. If your 3" pot worked for you then I would stick to that method. Good luck.
I do aloe vera and rooting powder and the powder in late time off the year. This year i took some with vitamine just to try and those didnt root, and the aloe vera all rooted. Losing a cutting is always possible so just take as much as you can and try out what is best for yourself and what gives you succes. For me succes on aloe vera is losing 2 from 15 cuttings, the vitamine c 3 cuttings and never rooted, the rooting powder same as the aloe vera, and the rooting powder isnt expensive and over here in the Netherland a bottle cost you 5 euro and you can use it for long time and can root enough cuttings with the powder. This year i do dipladenias for the first time, so i have to wait a couple off weeks to say wich rooted best. I do cuttings because you safe a lot off money and you can take cuttings for your parents if the have a garden and want some plants back next year. And the cheapest way is always to propagate. Those companies make enough profit, vut not over my back. You can always go look for a very bad pelargoniun the change the cant sell it is high, so sometime you can get the plant for free or just 50 cent. Cut is back deep, water it light once in 5 days and you see the plant comes back real good and in a week you see new growth on it.
Oh I had this time og pelargonium too, but it rotted of before getting roots in the soil, I wish I had tried my new method of getting fast roots on that one before it died😪
About 3weeks ago I took a geranium cutting, used rooting hormone and it promptly keeled over-- dead, and rotting, just like this woman said ! So don't do that!!
Vernon Geranium Yes! I had 100% success rate and did not take any extra special care of the cuttings once potted! It was my first ever try! I didn't sterilize my blade or wash my hands either!
Oh well done! Would be interesting to see if you had the same success again, or whether you just got lucky. Never heard of that method before - might be worth experimenting!
Vernon Geranium there's tons of information on the web you can find. Honey naturally kills or prevents bacteria from growing... I know that much. How it stimulates roots, I have no idea, but it works for more than geraniums.
thanks my three geranium died after buying. There stem turned black but I have taken a cutting and applied root hormone and put in soil .will it worked I live in Patna India.
I just clip them and put them immediately into wet warm potting soil. Keep them watered and they take off. I live in California so the climate may have something to do with it. 🤷🏻♀️
What's the point of zooming in if your hand is in the way and you keep moving the plant around so I can't what you are doing. Too bad, because your instruction is exactly what I need. But I don't know the terminology and needed to "see".

Update ! Yes I was lucky in 2019. In 2020 I lost every one of my plants ....I will just take cuttings this year

Very well explained, thank you ❤️
Beautiful video..Madam instead of vit C can we dip the cuttings in honey ??
Weve never tried, but if you scroll down the comments on this video there is a discussion on the use of honey as a rooting aid.
Thank you this has been a great help many thanks.😎
Thanks a lot very simple and clear.
thinking of planting (pot) geraniums in a spot where they don't get direct sun light, will they be ok? (las vegas, nv)
Maria Alvarez Hello, yes they should be ok so long as its not too shady
Oh I had this time og pelargonium too, but it rotted of before getting roots in the soil, I wish I had tried my new method of getting fast roots on that one before it died😪
vitamin c vs root tone was different information, very helpful video.
Hello ma'am I want to know ,where should we put our geranium plant in sunlight or in shadow ??
They are best grown in full sun or part shade. If growen in full shade they will become stretched.
Than.ks, I ll now go and increase my red geranium. Subbed
About 3weeks ago I took a geranium cutting, used rooting hormone and it promptly keeled over-- dead, and rotting, just like this woman said ! So don't do that!!
This good lady sounds better than "this woman"
I get good information from your video ^^ I will come to watch frequently ~~ *
I also grow thw pelargoniums^^*
I push the good&subscription
What seasion report time..pleas tell me.
have you ever tried honey as the rooting compound?
No - have you? Any success?
Vernon Geranium Yes! I had 100% success rate and did not take any extra special care of the cuttings once potted! It was my first ever try! I didn't sterilize my blade or wash my hands either!

+Vernon Geranium Thank you so much for your explanation, your videos are amazing, hopefully you will give us more & more videos, شكرا جزيلا.
can the same be done with much thicker stems ?
Yes but its best to use fresh young growth.
Thank you!!
thanks my three geranium died after buying. There stem turned black but I have taken a cutting and applied root hormone and put in soil .will it worked I live in Patna India.
It sounds as though they rotted. Dont overwater them - try to keep the compost consistently moist but never wet.
Thanks helpful!
Nice video

Excellent thank you!
Thanks that helps!!
When you doing that what monts?
You can take them at any time of the year but summer is best.
Thank you.
Great, thanks!!!
Quand est-q-uil vont mettre la lecture en français ? ???????
I used Vitamin C but cutting rot in few days.
