    CPP made a "Pro Touring" kit in 4 different stages. I bought the Stage III for my '69 elCamino. That was cheaper than going Stock Disc's up front and gave me tubular up and lowers, 4w disc's, lines, booster w/prop. valve, EVERYTHING and still retain 15" wheels. Sadly I never got to install it. Life got in the way.

    Really nice handling Chevelle. Especially considering how heavy it is. I saw no roll at all around those corners. I got to get this upgrade for my 66 Chevelle. The back is always wanting to come around if you’re doing over 45mph.

    Fantastic video!! I’ve got a gorgeous 66 Chevelle 327 that rides like shit. I’m showing this video to my mechanic and let him know this is what I want. I’ll comment again when done. Thank you. Happy cruising.

      Nice, i to have 66 chevlle 327. My problem is that the front end seats high w/ new coil springs. And bought 3 sets from different Co's they all seat high.

    Interesting info. I have never heard that about just going tubular with the upper control arm and leaving the bottom one stock. i was planning on going with coilovers on front to lower the car and have some adjustability....just a street cruiser.

      If you are set on doing front coil overs, then I would recommend tubular lower control arms that are designed for coil overs.

      I'm sure it would be more difficult to get an Impala to handle as they are so big and heavy, but I'm sure it is doable.

    I rock Ridetech's street grip system, but added adjustable upper control arms and their trailing arms with "r-joints" (rod ends). It's real close to your setup. Discs in the front, drums in the rear, and 15" basset wheels with Cooper Cobras. The next thing I want to do is frame reinforcement b/c I can feel the car flex over bumps and hard cornering. Did you do anything with your frame?

      I haven't yet. I would really like to box the frame

    You say without spending a lot of money. But still hundreds of dollars, especially with prices so high now. So people that dont have much extra to spend are kinda still screwed!! Great video though and looks like great handling Chevelle.

      Unfortunately costs have gotten out of control. Relatively speaking it's still cheaper than paying for the "Stage 4" packages that most don't need.

    how do you like that steering box? does it feel like a rack and pinion setup?

    • @SS454LS6
      @SS454LS6  3 года назад +1

      I've never driven an old muscle car with Rack and Pinion so I couldn't say for sure. A R&P setup from a modern Vette probably isn't a fair comparison. Otherwise I definitely like the fast ratio steering box, in fact I would prefer a faster one. You can get Jeep Grand Cherokee boxes for Chevelles that are 12.7:1 and cheap. Sweet and Turn One make excellent steering boxes for A bodies, but $$$.

      @larney37 3 года назад

      @@SS454LS6 I actually did the Jeep steering box swap on my 72 Cutlass with a big block. It definitely was huge improvement but still vague. A smaller steering wheel was an improvement, and fatter front tires were an improvement too. I am just debating ponying up the cash for the pricey box. I love your philosophy on building these cars btw - exactly the way I look at it too!

      @@larney37 I would love to get a Sweet or Turn One 10:1 steering box. Most would say that's wayyy to fast, but I like quick steering. I also have considered getting rid of the rag joint and going to a U joint.

      @@SS454LS6 I had an Fr-S for a long time and that is what I am benchmarking. I will have to look into the u joint as I didn't even know it was possible to get rid of the rag joint -- I guess it's only there for NVH?

    What about coil overs vs regular springs in the suspension?

    • @SS454LS6
      @SS454LS6  Год назад +1

      It won't change the handling. Spring rate is what affects your handling. Coil overs are more compact and allow for ride height adjustments.
