- The Company of Pikemen and Musketeers was formed less than a century ago but this ceremonial sub-unit of the Honourable Artillery Company - the British Army’s oldest regiment - is keeping alive traditions dating back to the 17th Century. We joined them as they prepared for the biggest day in their calendar...

Fascinating. Lovely to see these old traditions being kept up.
For anyone wondering, the Lord mayor of London is not the same as the Mayor of London. The City of London is not the same as what we know of London

Keeping history and be proud Great Briton.
Is there any different between Britons and British ?
@@georgeno812 Well George, perhaps someone else is more qualified than me can answer your question. I'm an American with ancestral ties to Great Briton. I'll assume there is no difference between Britons and British regarding the island of Briton. Although I will submit to you "being British" is a sense of national pride / loyalty.
@@georgeno812 no Britons and British is the collective term for people living in Great Britain.

Wait.... so it costs 18 pounds and weighs 5 thousand pounds???? GOD you brits are strong!
oh ha ha! Fine jest sir.
Extraordinary to think Brummitt trained me when I joined the Regt and Company in ‘94. Where does the time go, eh?
Leave it to britin to have the best looking uniforms i have ever seen back then and today
It's 'Britain', dear heart!
Or rather 'Great Britain'.

9:35 Do you hear the people sing? Singing the song of angry men!
yeah, but why? may I ask?
Er...No!
Omg.

Holy shit! They must be old!
It's just occurred to me , what a brilliant solution to riot control a phalanx of 18 foot Pikemen.

Probably why you tie your pants at the knee.
4:13 that musket looks like it has a martini Henry action
Maybe it does but the originals would've been matchlocks
hmmm
It does indeed lol
That's called a falling block, used by quite a few different rifles. You lower the breach, load the round, patch, and charge from the rear, then raise the breach, then fire. It uses a matchlock to ignite the charge (That's the wick you see on the side).
Greetings from Germany ✌

They also field a very good Rugby team!!
What a nice cool looking unit!!!!😃👍👍
The fact they have Pikemen kills me
Why? Perfectly practical weapon in the 1600's, just as common as firearms at the time and a lot more reliable, used mainly both for engaging OTHER pikemen and for fending off cavalry attacks
Work damned well against cyclists
Fantastic!
Amazing!!
11:05 my god that posture
Love those Pikemen. Is recruitment ex officers and RSM + 'handshake' only ?
Interesting kit...
Why? Historically authentic (mid 17th century) clothes, armours and weapons. That unit is a traditional ceremonial type of company.
@@kristofantal8801 yes the historically authentic 17th century Martiny Henry rifle hahahaha
@@MrPanos2000 It's not a Martin-Henry...
@@kristofantal8801 Its obvious that its a MkIV. Just look at 4:00, you can see the breech block. Of course they have been restocked to look like 17th century Arquebus
I do miss the HAC. What a special bunch of boys and girls.....
Nice to finally see some English culture
Their kit seems rather outdated, not in a sense that its from the 17th century thats obvious, but more that its just not up to date from a accuracy wise perspective. Stuff like using suspenders instead of hooks or aiglets to hold up the breeches by attaching them to the doublet is just not good enough anymore.
@サイレントボイス so are reenactors. What does being old have to do with anything
...OR USING MODERN EYEGLASSES...
9:57 What is a Basel Carnival Clique doing there?
did the band play "angry men"?
The Waaagh! Productions “do you hear the people sing?” from les mis yeh
@@evantighe696 yup!
Why doe's the musket the guy at 4:12 have what looks suspiciously like the breech block of a Martini-Henri rifle?
They had breech loading matchlocks back then.
Is it just me or is the arquebus looked like a breech loder conervert arquebus? The back end looked like a martini henry to me.
6:48 XD
Tradition as Union with England.
That's so cool though :0
Am I the only guy to find out that their match lock musket is actually a Martini Henry?
nope
Jeez everyone here doesn't know jack about firearms. They had breech loading matchlocks back then.
I wish we still used hussars/Cavelry in warfare :(

Does anyone know what song this is 10:50
'Do you hear the people sing, singing the song of angry men' isn't it?
That's alot earlier, but I found the song what I was looking for.
But thanks anyway.
It’s a Household Cavalry March...

Back in the 1980’s my husband and I helped as riding instructors with the newly formed Light Cavalry Squadron of the HAC. The first time the newly mounted Squadron took part in the Lord Mayor’s Show , I walked beside them the whole route to check saddles, bridles, etc. Arriving at St. Paul’s Cathedral with the Mounted Band of the Household Cavalry playing Aida was one of the most thrilling moments of my life.....🥰🤩🥰🤩
if anyone in the comments in in london on Sunday (26/01/2020) the English civil war society is doing a march along the mall. come and see what the more typical soldier looked like at the time!
The originals probably a lot more ruff and not royalist
They aren't called the twelve apostles, that is a Victorian invention.
hm
I would imagine the Musketeer would know more, seeing as it's his profession

Well, English.

Wait what? Those aren't muskets, they're Martini Henrys made to look like muskets!
They had breech loading matchlocks back then do some research this is like the 10th comment I've seen now.
They need to work on staying in sync
Make London English again!
This is bull like baby London stan
Question, if those leather coats protect the musketeers from messing their uniforms, why's the drummer wearing one too?
The first drummer is absolutely horrid. Poor technique. Farby. The others are equally as bad. This unit should be ashamed.
The oldest regiment of the british army is the Coldstream or grenadiers guard...
Incorrect. While those are the most senior regiments in the British Army, the HAC is the oldest regiment in the Army and the 2nd most senior regiment in the Army Reserve.
You heard the man narrating say when the HAC originated, a century before the Guards Regiments.
Seniority is done by continuous service rather than just the oldest ones.
Shame the falling band ( shirt Collar) is wrong. Oh, and the buttons on the coat cuff. Oh and the musket looks like a combo, of a matchlock and what appears to be a breach loader. Oh and the buff-coats. Oh and the velcro on the breaches. Oh and the spectacles. Oh and the Captain's neck doily. If it is fancy dress for the Lord Mayors Show, please don't say it is authentic.
Eddie Cullen nope
They have a number of muskets. They normally carry matchlocks...but if they are going to be doing a salute with gunfire they have martini actions...which are simpler to load. Also they have different quality of musket depending on the weather....if it is raining for the LMS they use a lower quality as it is going to be wet all day and the crowd don't get too close...
I bet you one thing ...not one of them is a delusional brexiteer
I bet you one thing... you don’t know that. Also, regardless, what does Brexit have to do with this? You are just trying to use this to further your own political agenda on these men by assigning them, with no evidence, political opinions.
