    I flew here in August and we had a wonderful Wizz Air approach, was stunning, could see the waves but because of where I was I was completely unaware when we had reached the runway. Slammed against the ground quite literally, and had a go around after the touchdown. According to the pilot it was a down draft. Don’t really know what it means but it was very eventful... 😂

    Awesome video! What's your way of calculating wether you are high or low on the profile for the visual?
    Best regards!

    • @pilotmax
      @pilotmax  4 года назад +4

      A simple rule of thumb to follow a 3° path. Altitude x 3 = distance. If I'm at 10.000ft for example : 10 x 3 = 30Nm. I constantly compare my altitude to my distance remaining (either straight to the runway or the planned routing). On that I add some margin for decelerating, and I add or substract some distance for head or tailwind ;)

      @charliehotel6687 4 года назад

      Sounds like quite a workload while manually flying a visual. Good job! :)

    • @FlyNAA
      @FlyNAA 4 года назад +1

      @@charliehotel6687 Only in the beginning. After a while, you're not doing math, there's just a few common points memorized (30 miles at 10K, 20 miles at 7K, 10 miles at 3K, 5 at 1500, 3 at 1000) which are an approximation, but that's all you need for a basic "am I on profile?" situational awareness picture. And inbetween you interpolate. If you need something more exact, VNAV is there for you far away, and the glideslope is there close in. At least for me that's what works.

    • @pilotmax
      @pilotmax  3 года назад +1

      That is the LNAV go around being armed. It always arms, even when flight directors are OFF. In case of go around, if we press TOGA the LNAV go around would activate. That's an option and not available on all 737's ;)
