  • A list with easy beginner knitting projects that still look super cute and you can finish super fast - even if you've just started to learn how to knit. Find the full list with more pictures and links to patterns on my blog: nimble-needles.com/patterns/1...
    My buy me a coffee site: www.buymeacoffee.com/nimblene...
    As a beginner, it can be hard to pick the right knitting project. After all, you don't really know a lot of the stitches. At the same time, you probably want to finish something you can actually use and wear. That's why I compiled this list. I wanted to show you a couple of easy knitting projects you can finish even if you barely know how to knit and purl. I honestly believe that this is a hobby for everyone and just because you don't know everything yet, doesn't mean you can create something you can use and something you can be proud of.

    This is a great video, Norman. I've been knitting for 50+ years and didn't think there would be anything in this video for me. How wrong I was! The small projects that you show are perfect for the beginner. I like the cup cosy and agree that cables look harder than they are. Cables are my favourite pattern type for that very reason. Your suggestion to turn swatches into coasters was the biggest surprise for me. It is such a simple and obvious way to repurpose the swatches. Well, it's obvious now that you've mentioned it, lol. I would love to see a tutorial on the mitred square pillow. Thank you for this excellent video. I'll be watching any beginner videos you make because there's bound to be more than a few gems for me to collect.

I tried both versions a few times but I keep ending up with the wrong amount of stitches each time although I’m following your pattern exactly as written. What am I missing??

    Wonderful project ideas, Norman! I loved your comments about the importance of pushing boundaries, even as a beginner. Prior to trying cablework, I was very intimidated by it, but as soon as I tried it, I found that it was not only way easier than I thought it would be and was also super fun! Would love to see how you made the pillow. Started knitting a year ago with a chunky garter stitch scarf. Took me about a week. Now I'm up to a pair of socks in 2 weeks. I find the small projects, like dishcloths, although repetitive, really help get consistent tension. I started crocheting with dishcloths over 40 years ago. Perfect gift and so easy.
    Happy New Year to you + yours!

    • @NimbleNeedles
      @NimbleNeedles  2 года назад +9

      Yeah, that's why I like these small projects...they are fast to finish and you can so easily practice a new stitch or technique while doing it. And if it turns out to be a bit wonky. Who cares. As I keep on saying, it's a dishcloth not a ball gown :)

      I think a pillow video is good. Pillows hide one side and that is good. Good loooking seams is so difficult for many beginners. If you showed a pillow and different ways to seam it together, that would probably interesting and helpful.

    A word of caution: do not use acrylic yarn for potholders. It works initially, but after just a few uses, it will do its own version of felting, which is essentially burnt nubs caused by it melting from intense heat (ask me how I know). Cotton and linen are much better choices.

    I knit a similar scarf like that as a beginner project and it took me a couple weeks to finish and it was really hard on my hands because the needles were so long and heavy as the scarf got longer. My friend loves it though! But I’m not sure I’ll ever do it again! I hate chunky yarn now!

    Norman my friend, you are really the "master of knitting"!!!!! I was about to give up, throw away all 20 different needles i got (you see in every video they recommend different size of needles) and never talk about it again... I made it though, because of you and the way you motivate people...
    I started knitting with you in that video for total beginners with 20 stiches and right now i have on my needles a 16 inches (41 cm) project that i'm about to continue until i reach the size to fold it in half, sew the edges and make it a nice knitting case for all these needles i have now!!!!! I think that's a good idea too...

    • @NimbleNeedles
      @NimbleNeedles  Год назад +2

      yeah, there are actually some patterns out there for knitted needle cases. Do keep in mind, however, that depending on your gauge your needles may slip through the stithes. So, maybe you will have to line it with either cloth or a softer cardboard.

  • @janmiranda01

    I really appreciate the video on how to measure and plan sock sizes. Can you do one with different types of feet, how to adjust for things like a high instep, box or rounder toe, deeper heel and picking up gussett stitches. Everything I see except yours seem to copy from existing patterns and don't show how to make the sock really fit. Love your work and I hope things have opened up for you since the pandemic.

    • @NimbleNeedles
      @NimbleNeedles  2 года назад

      hm...please excuse me if I am overstepping here but I have to ask: Are you thinking in lines of medicinal socks for ...i dunno for people with club feet, missing toes, etc? Or just these tiny adjustments for feet slightly less in lane with standard shoe sizes?

    • @janmiranda01
      @janmiranda01 2 года назад

      @@NimbleNeedles No more of learning to adjust your pattern for a variation such as fingering to bulkier yarn, sock for a high instep that will fit well or a taller heel. I know people would love to know how a different yarn weight would work up. Alot of people don't realize that a good quality vs. poor quality yarn will make or break your project. I know you addressed some of that in the sock tutorial i.e. the depth of the heel, but I have seen all kinds of weird stuff to "make your sock fit" for a higher instep, narrower foot. Not sure I explained it. I look at patterns to try but they don't turn out the way they promise. Maybe they are copies of copies of copies?

    • @NimbleNeedles
      @NimbleNeedles  2 года назад

      @@janmiranda01 yeah, a lot of nonsense is being copied all over again when it comes to sock knitting in my opinion. But doing a video on custom adjustments is not exactly easy 😅

    Great video! I’ve been teaching my SIL how to knit, so this is a perfect resource for her. And even as a relatively experienced knitter, I knit tons of dishcloths. Every time I finish a larger project or just can’t get myself to pick up a complicated project, I will bust out several dishcloths and it makes me feel like I’ve really accomplished something. Shoutout to knitpicks dishie yarn for being an inexpensive quality yarn I keep on hand specifically for this reason.
