My parents had some rather old Marathon (I think?) CFL bulbs in their basement prior to my dad finishing it and installing a drop ceiling with recessed LEDs. I'm pretty sure they were made sometime around 2005. They had a similar design as far as the three U-bent tubes however the base of the bulb (ballast) was rectangular and the tubes were parallel to each other. They took a very (and I mean VERY) long time to ramp up to full brightness, but once they reached full brightness they were almost blinding to look at! Until the day my dad replaced them they were still going strong. Unfortunately I think he tossed them a few years back when he took a bunch of old fluorescent tubes/CFL bulbs to the recycling facility along with some old paint. But I remember those and I'm sure they were a lot better quality than the more recent stuff. Now CFLs are virtually obsolete since LEDs seem to be the only form of lighting technology available to the public along with limited supply of halogens/incandescents/fluorescent tubes.
I also remember having some LightWiz spiral CFLs which were likely made around the same era as the Marathon CFL bulbs. Those are long gone now, too, though I'm not sure how good (or bad) quality they were, as one was installed above my parent's kitchen sink and one day, it flickered and went out. When I took the cover off the fixture the entire base of the bulb was dark brown as if it had gone up in smoke. Then again it was installed with the base facing up and the fixture was entirely enclosed, and CFLs (especially the older ones) never particularly liked being installed in enclosed fixtures as there was no way for the heat to escape, let alone with the base facing up so all the heat from the tube rises into the ballast circuit. Had it been installed base-down in a fixture with proper ventilation, I'm sure it would've lasted much longer and not died a catastrophic death.

TCP has made some neat stuff. They’ve actually become by brand of choice for LED lighting these days.

i remember seeing a large pack of these lamps for sale on ebay, they were an already pretty cheap price but i held back hoping they would lower it even more, but unfortunately someone got it before i could. they almost always come in a large set of like, 12.

Date code could also be January 2006. They also made these in 3W and 7W sizes.

Really? Most secondhand places I go to if I’m lucky they give me the bulbs for 50c and boxed bulbs are usually 10.50$ at the most and 1$ at the cheapest

@@lightuphps791 holy damn! For my ReStore, boxed lamps are typically $1 (smaller are 50c) and two/four packs are $2. I just recently got a 24-Pack of Philips 60W Candelabra incandescents for $3... lol.
Fluorescent tubes are typically $1, each, though for some odd reason a case of subpar Sylvania F32T8s has each lamp priced at $5... when I purchased just two days ago an entire case (6pk) of Sylvania F40s for $6...
