I have the knife and if I were to make my own that would be it.
My thoughts exactly!
I made a leather Strongsville sheath for it and am now in the middle of a kydex sheath for scout carry.

@@takeawalk5416 That's awesome! Lemme know how it turns out. 👍
29 Minute Knives.....
Just why I clicked, Great Video
FYI...if you have a Architect 5.5 and what to transfer handle scales to the Esee 5 or 6...you will need longer hardware to accommodate the different blade thicknesses..
Good catch! 👏
Thank you again brother and as usual another great review!
I really like that drop leg work on that sheath. Need to get one of those some time. I really like how that knife looks.
Appreciate it! They are really working out nicely so far and not too hard to make either. Nice lil handmade design.
I have one and feel the same way. It’s great in the hand and around the ranch. Need to take it camping. Expect it will perform well. Dale hit a home run with this.
For sure. Thanks for supporting the channel btw. Happy to see it growing. 👍
When you figure in material cost the 3v version is a better value . 3V is expensive and has a complex heat treat where 1095 is neither and 3V is superior in every metric .
💯
1095 is really nice if you use a fire steel. Field knives aren’t generally used for making fire they are made for taking down stuff and breaking into or out of things. So 3V is a great steel choice for this.
@@RadDadisRad Good points Leland! Thanks for tuning in!
If Tops can do the 3V HT right. It can be difficult.
I was just checking out your website. Very nice. Easy to use and figure out what you’re ordering.
I didn’t see the 5.5 as an option for a knife sheath.
Also, what options do you have for carbon fiber?
Good point! (I have to add it because I just got this one in.) If there is something I don't have, they just have to mail their knerfle in to me. And thanks! The lady set it up so I'll pass along the compliment. 5.5 added to the site within the next couple hours. 🙂
Oh! And for Carbon Fiber, pretty much any color you want. I'll get CF added to the site later too. Good eye!
@@5MinuteKnives thank you for the replies! I’ll be in touch when I can get my hands on a 5.5.
My last thought about this model is TOPS not being involved with the 3v models. TOPS seems to work only or mostly with 1095 and the TOPS name is off this 3v 5.5. Interesting!
Again, I didn't even consider that!
I was leaning toward my next knife being an esee 5 or esee 6 but i may have to go with an architect 5.5 great review like always
Appreciate ya Jesse!
I have the 5.5 but in 1095. I absolutely love it but it has an issue with the cerakote coating (from tops) that'll cause rust underneath. They won't cover rust, even though this is on their error and since it's been over 60 days since purchase, they said I had to cover shipping both ways and it'll take up to 4 weeks to get it back to re-cerakote it. They said I could remove the coating to save it from rusting but that voids the warranty. However.. Ethan from TKC said they will warranty it unconditionally even if I removed the coating so major props to TKC! I have the esee 6 as well and I tend to use the 5.5 more. It's lighter weight (skeletonized handle) and being 5/32 instead of 3/16 it's a tad thinner and feels better in my hands. It helps it has the esee 5/6 handle shape also.
Onto your sheaths now, lol. Will your sheath for the 5.5 allow for the esee 5/6 pouch to be attached meaning will the holes align?
Thanks for the great review again!
Edit : posted your website link in the group.
First- You're awesome and thank you. Second- TKC has always had great customer service (as far back as I can remember). And I'm pretty sure it will but I'll order an esee pouch just to have one around. I think I want one of those pouches with a tin in the back of all my sheaths with the drop down attachment (we just came out with that) so long asnwer, Yes. All of my pancake sheaths for anything above a 5 inch blade should fit one fo those.
Appreciate ya!
@@5MinuteKnives thank you as well and my pleasure! I agree, Ethan and Dale are great people and their customer service is second to none, as are the guys at esee.
I'll be ordering a sheath then from you for the 5.5 when I get the funds. I have one of the TKC sheaths for it and it's an awesome sheath, but I got it used and came with the kryptek mandrake which I don't like.
I posted another comment but don't see it. I'm an admin in the esee knives north America group on Facebook, so that's the group I posted your info to. I also do custom etching, mostly on esee knives, so I have a small fan base. (not tooting my horn here lol) so hopefully they'll put the word out also.
@@redbear_70 That's great! Thanks again and we would love to cross promote with you as well. Shoot me an email sometime with the talking points and I'll send you a 20 percent off discount code to lessen the damage when you order your sheath. 🤣Appreciate ya!
@@5MinuteKnives You're welcome! And I appreciate that but I do it more as a hobby not a business. I often lose money on them, lol, but it's fun so it's worth it. I'll send you an email soon and that is much appreciated, thank you!
That carbon fibre sheath with the orange kydex backing, is SIK.
Appreciate it! If you have any knives you'd like a badass custom sheath for, lemme us know!
Great alternative to survive knives without the wait!
I think it's perfect besides picky finishing etc. Has all you need. Knife description was it was meant to be a jack of all trades. High saber so you can split wood, bushcraft and skin. It's thinner so it cuts well and because it's 3V it should be able to be thinner and take the beating just fine. I love the feel of mine and the design. I know from reviews the design works very well but I'm not sure how the 3V holds up. I have the 3V with green scales as well. Haven't had a chance to test it. Best part it has the lifetime "unconditional" warranty
Exactly and well put! 👍
I like the design of the 5.5...have the 1095 version. Curious to see testing on the Tops 3v heat treatment. My go to Camp knife has been a Bark River Bravo Clip Point in 3v. Big fan of convex blades...when using a backpack I usually have a Falkniven S1 in a custom kydex mounted upside down to my LH chest strap.
I’m not into coated blades. After a few uses they look like crap. I did strip and polish the primary bevel and convex the edge. Will see how it works out.
I've been really wanting to take a look at both of those knives. so consider letting me review 'em sometime (haha). I'm with you on the coating. I generally just until it comes of mostly then patina the whole thing.
I don't really do testing vids (I probably should) BUT I will post updates in future vids. I'm mostly curious to see how the 3v does this winter in the cold.
I'll letcha know and thanks for sounding off!
Living in the PNW rain forest region...high carbon blades are a summer only for me. 3V is much more stain resistant (3 season). Nasty or coastal weather 3v is workable but high maintenance...stainless is preferred. I treat Leather much the same as high carbon...
If I remember right you’re in Co...I do have a bunch of Bark River And LT Wright knives I would consider getting kydex’d...
I really liked this knife and wanted it. Where can I buy it?
Theknifeconnection.com
Put it to work and test it. Really good looking setup. Like the drop down.
Will do bradda. And thanks! Testing the new designs...
Love this knife!!!any chance for magnacut or cru wear, I wonder?
That would be pretty awesome (and expensive I bet)...
@@5MinuteKnives you discovered this knife to me;I got it in 3v and s35vn,I’m sure I’ll get in magnacut to..☺️🙏
@@liviuilea6926 That's great. Happy to be of service. 👍
Great video. Great knife.
I’d love to slum it with some 1095 in this model but only the 3v is available.
EDIT: they’re all out of stock right now 😩
How do you feel about that little sharpening choil? It looks odd to me and it seems needlessly sharp. Probably not a uh deal though, right?
Thanks and astute as always! That choil is a tad sharp. Although it looks cool, it can get caught if you're cutting something like fabric or nylon straps. With the way I sharpen though, it should be rounded off in no time! 🤣
I’ll hit you up for a sheath soon. Looking fwd to the potential 5 minute Gun channel!
Appreciate ya. Gonna focus on making this one passable first. 🤣
The blade length and profile looks a lot like the Esee 5, but possibly a slightly thinner stock.
waaaay thinner than an E5.
Ik what you mean about hatchets. When I was younger I hit myself in the kneecap with one, not fun. Always seemed like an awkward tool in general. I have an estwing camp ax if I need an axe, otherwise for small stuff I use a parang. Parang is the best of both worlds, it can function as a machete, hatchet, or large knife for a multitude of tasks
💯💯💯💯
It’s awesome, I think of it as an upgraded Esee-6
Totally! I think this one really hits the sweet spot for a solid field knife. 👍
Yo bless up. I would love to get one of your sheaths.
Honestly want to see a good hard use testing on this 3V version to see if the Heat Treat is good. I know the ergonomics perform well but not this steel.
I'll know how it holds up by spring (I'm thumping on it all winter) so we'll see if the 3v chips in the cold.
i didn't know you made knife stuff,,, cool, i like the drop down belt loop thing,, do you offer vet discounts,,
For sure man! Shoot me an email at dragonscalejoe@gmail.com and lemme know what you're thinking of having made. We'll take care of ya. 👍
@@5MinuteKnives can you make a cordless knife ?? dewalt joke,,
@@5MinuteKnives just sent you a quick email,, i'm in west central florida,, it's almost 10 pm here,, getting ready to hit the sack soon
@@woofman4796 🤣🤣🤣
Sending that drop down attachment out soon bud. Was slammed the last couple days with orders. 👍
I went to your website to check out your sheaths for this knife and couldn't find it listed. Do you you offer a sheath for it? Thanks
I do but it would be a custom sheath. I don't have this knife in stock at the moment. 👍
Hey Joe, are you still in business?
yipper. Just mostly making sheaths wholesale for knifemakers so I didn't need the site. I take orders still though through email (see my last fifteen videos...) 👍
It's not a soft spine, nor is it cerakote. The 3V is uncoated and uniform heat treat.
This is an old vid so I forget what I said, but I think I was referring to not being able to strike a fero rod on the spine. Good to know! 👍
How does the texture/gripiness of the tkc architect scales compare to the new esee 3d scales?
Esee scale are a touch slicker (but still good traction). The esee scale feel more ergo the tkc are more grippy. 👍
@5 Minute Knives Wow thanks for the fast reply! You earned yourself a new subscriber. Have you had a chance to test out the HT/cold weather performance? Is this still your "survival knife" pick?
My choice has evolved... all the way back to an esee 6. lol but a cm6 or this knife would do nicely. You really can't lose out of any of those really, but I like the price for what you're getting with esee personally. Tops is pretty awesome too though so it's a toss up. And thanks bud! Welcome to the 5MK community! 🍻
@5 Minute Knives a few more questions for you:
Do you charge tax when selling to New Mexico?
I have a field buddy 5.5. Do I have to send mine in or are you able to make a sheath based off the model you have?
Is there a discount if I buy more than one sheath at a time?
Thanks.
@@exodussurvival tax, yes. Yup, send yours in. And I'll throw you a discount if you get multiple sheaths for sure. You might wanna consider my subscribestar. It starts at a buck per month and all members get 15 percent off all sheath orders. Might save you some sheckles. Either way, shoot me an email at dragonscalejoe@gmail.com when you're ready and we'll get it goin! (I JUST finished a 5.5 sheath just now. Look for a vid in the new few weeks about it.) 👍👍
You remind me of myself...10 years ago...lol. If your anything like me the High Carbon steel blades will become relics of the past...they sit in a drawer with my Old Buck knives. FYI...Most of the Kydex work I’ve had done was from makers that had the same knife as a template...though I do understand the trials of startup companies...
I try to keep most of the popular knives in stock but there's just waaaaaay too much out there. Most folks don't mind sending 'em in though. Get's their knives and new sheath in a video. I'll letcha know when I'm 51 but I'll prolly just be down to a hunstman by then. 🤣Thanks for tuning in!
Do you still offer sheaths for the Field Buddy 5.5? I don’t see it as an option on your website.
I do but you have to send it in for molding. (Quick turn around times lately though.) 👍
very cool!!! sheath
Thanks bud!
What's up with the website brother?
I took it down because no one used it anymore. Just email me for a quote whenever you need. dragonscalejoe@gmail.com 👍
It would be nice to see the Architect 5.5 Vs the Tops Silent Hero
I can already tell you the 5.5 has a way more comfortable handle than the silent hero for any bushcrafting tasks you might be doing. The silent hero handle was a lil thin for me BUT I do not have the silent hero in stock, so if you'd like a custom sheath or review for it, send her in! 🍻
I carry the large Buck Selkirk, that knife looks like a knock off of it
That's interesting! I'd love to do a first impressions vid of that one sometime...
Honestly it looks nothing like the Buck knife at all. The Buck looks like a cheapo wal mart knife. Pretty sure the Field buddy would easily beat it in every category. Not even a slight comparison
@@sirsir9665 lol I was just being polite to him (and wanted to get it in hand for the comparison🤣 ) , but yeah. 💯
nice.... I subbed.
🤘
5min into the vid now
Killer sheaths! By the way
Thanks! If you ever need something custom made, I'm your guy! 👍
@@5MinuteKnives and that sir I will, I have a couple of knives I would like some ‘better’ custom sheaths for, my bk 14 as well as my white river fc7.
@@christaylor7539 I currently have a 2-4 week turn around. Not too bad. :)
psst ,, testing,, testing
90 degree spines are a GodsSend when you have no other striker, but I have a hunk of M2 high speed square lathe bit stock epoxied into a wooden handle, 4 edges, cheap...done. Two is one, one is none
Shoot brother, in CPM3V ? I want this thing TO BE a honker. I have CP, walk on handmade stainless steel crutches that weigh 4 pounds each and zero ability to use a even like a small forest axe, so I require a "machete" big bush knife like a BK9, or a Cold Steel Ghurkha Khukuri, or Himalayan Imports Khukuri ,a 6 inch belt knife and a pocket knife like a SAK Huntsman, a saw like a Silky or Laplander. Its a MUST. Gotta have my tools. I live in the south, hard and soft woods. This knife whoops ass! . I have an E6 and love that thing, but its like a big kitchen knife and I just can't bring myself to wail on it like my late 80s Carbon V Trailmaster
Makes total sense man. I was really impressed with the balance of this guy and liked the grind. Don't forget a tourniquet and be safe out there! 🍻
And yes Cold Steel Suck Cure Ex sux. My Carbon V CSGK came with both a lighter weight leather sheath and a solid kydex ...hell its a scabbard...who am I kidding. Would really love a good kydex sheath for my Trailmasters tho😆
I think I could whip somethin' up for ya. I think a 9.5" blade maxes my press though. Still, it can be done if you ever need something made. 👍
I'm considering it strongly. Hey if you have the creeps about hatchets, try this. Stand the wood up on end between two heavier pieces or simply lay it down. Find a crack and smack it. You can also stand it up, hold it up with another stick in your other hand, using the stick to balance it. Whack away, your hand isn't there!😆 Always try to find a weakness in the wood no matter what you use to split it with bro!😁
@@tikkidaddy I like the suggestions. Appreciate ya!
