I am so amused that you had your Volcarona up against a Dark Dragon and still went for Heat Wave despite having access to Bug Buzz.
Right? I'm pretty sure he wouldn't have won there without that crit. Bug Buzz would have been way less RNG.
Agreed, but I'm sure he'd been playing for hours on end by this point, and in the heat of the moment, he just went with whatever his mind registered first. I'm willing to cut him some slack.
It wasn't Bug Buzz. It was Bug Bite. Black and White Volcarona doesn't learn it til Lv 70 and there is no TM for it. Pretty sure Heat Wave would have done more damage than a physical bug move, but could be wrong there.

Just ran Smogon Damage calcs. With max Sp. Attack EV investment Heat Wave would be stronger but without doing that MDB would indeed have been better off with Bug Bite
@@rhymebeat1142 Yeah, it was in that range I wasn't entirely sure without calcs and didn't feel like pulling them up. Felt it was close given as Volc is one my fav bugs and use it a lot competitively.
I might have a suggestion, what about adding the Cynthia battle to gen5 runs, many people condider Steven the end of emerald runs so having Cynthia as a bonus sounds like a fun way to close the challenges.
I wished he would do the post game in these runs it would be cool
He also usually tries red at the end of johto runs, so I think Cynthia would be a great idea
I feel like the reason he doesn't do it is either he might not know it, for gen 5 runs just take so much longer that he usually doesn't have time to do it and get the video out in a week

He probably doesn't do it due to time. Gen 5 has a slower EXP curve, and so regular gen 5 runs take longer to make - so the post game would only add to that
I think one of biggest reasons so many of us went “it’s okay MDB, it was a mistake” is because you are so honest, and so transparent with everything. *WE* had to convince *YOU* that it wasn’t cheating to use rare candies so you could get videos out on time. You have always been so honest and so interactive with your audience, asking what we think, giving us opportunities to ask you questions, etc. You are so down to earth that we know you are just some guy doing his best. And as we are all just some person, we know that to err is human. And then your apology was so quick, we knew it was a mistake. You took complete responsibility and didn’t try to hide it at all. It wasn’t that a viewer found it, confronted you, and then there was a half-hearted insincere apology. No, it was just as sincere as all the stream and post video rambles that we all love so much. Keep up the awesome work.

What did he do?
@@PeterGriffin11 he used emulator save states to test out the theoretical possibility of the champion fight, but forgot to explicitly state that in the video. It caused some confusion, and there were some people who took that poorly. He explains this all in his outro.
I’ll be honest who cares? I didn’t see it as a big deal at all. It was still a good video.
Honestly, I'm fine with Save states. It's basically the same as just trying full attempts over and over. Just don't use them as a substitute for actual strategy, and it's alright in my eyes.
This, I don't see the way he used them as much different than rare candies after maxing EVs
Honestly, the fact that everyone forgave you that fast speaks to the level of trust we have in you. You've built a reputation of being genuine, and just very honest with everything. I mean it took the dedicated community, what like a year? Took like a year of trying to get you to use rare candies and you still asked the general audience anyway and that was only for POSTGAME rare candies!
But also, I think part of it was that you still lost. If you did that and won I think more people would be angry.

It did also help that he was already level 100 by the time he got to the Elite Four, so repeated attempts when he has nothing to gain from them (he couldn't get any more levels, and it would just burn money, and... it's Ditto, it's not like he can try different strategies) would just be a waste of time. So yeah, save states were perfectly fine here.
Fun run! The end against Ghetsis was a bit confusing though, since your Archeops was at 6 hp and you had Endeavor, which could've forced Hydreigon to 6 hp, and possibly force a heal for a free quiver dance on Volcarona
Sometimes we miss things when we play. He likely forgot during the fight.
I can't believe how long it's been since I found you.... And honestly the mistake last week doesn't worry me because you're sincere, honest and you do as you say. You're kinda a role model for me, you talk as much as I do, you care as much as I do, so trust me when I say from the bottom of my heart, it's OK, you caught the error and fixed it, and we are still here with you MDB!
It's no worries, my friend! Hitting a brick wall like the challenge last week, sometimes seeing if something is even possible, is just what has to be done. What matters is that everyone is getting enjoyment from these videos, and you are still having fun producing them! For as long as those things are being met, all is good!
I cant talk for everyone else but i personally show up for your Unique brand of commentary so i dont care if you "cheat" on runs you know rare candys speed up save states its all just letting you give us more videos so i for one say do what you gotta do

One of the few BW runs where we can genuinely use the fossil gag so I will say: which fossil did you take? And was that choice related to the Meowth thing?

Also, 66th time I am asking you to pick the fossil opposite the one you said you picked to see who notices.
About the end-of-video discussion about your further thoughts on the save states, I very much think that you should care (since you said that people were saying things along the lines of 'why do you even care'), but at the same time you shouldn't feel bad about it. I really appreciate the fact that you made a clarification, and I think the clarification was necessary, but the mistake itself sounds to me like just that, a mistake. It's a sign that you need to think about it if it comes up in the future, and now that you've made that mistake you probably will.

Possibly, though I ran the calculations and it likely made no difference, 3-4 hit KO either way Heat Wave is 30 power stronger, and the 135 base Special attack vs 60 base attack pretty much evens it out. Depending on EVs and nature, could've actually been better.
Amazing run, though next time when you have a stab bug move with 90 bp against hydro, pls use it

Challenge suggestion, one to have on the backlog when you need a more fun/less brutal one: Gold or Heart Gold with Clair's team and moves, or Platinum with Volkner's team and moves. Figured a Gym Leader run with a slightly better team and movepool than a Gen 1 one would be fun, but their teams still offer some challenge for a run.
The logic behind those two in particular is that they both claim to be able to hold their own against the Elite Four (Clair claiming this directly, Volkner indirectly by deciding to have a go at them if he isn't excited by his battle with the player), so it could be fun to cash in on that claim to see how well they do.

I am so very excited for Pokémon FireRed/LeafGreen with only Barboach. I hope it goes well, even with the 4x weakness to grass-type moves. Bestest of luck to you next Saturday! Maybe the Saturday after that, we’ll see Fallout: New Vegas with only melee weapons, but no melee skill. Or Pokémon Emerald with only one Venusaur!
Glad to hear you sounding back to your normal cheerful self. Was really worried about how hard it sounded like you took your mistake with that Ditto run.
Also great to see that Black didn't wreck you this time, going straight from that Ditto run to a Gen 5 sounded like you signed up for your 'penance' for your mistake in advance.
Heat wave was an odd choice against hydragon there at the end, bug buzz was super effective, but it worked out so, thats neat x,D
Looks like his Volcarona actually has bug bite. Not bug buzz. Probably would have still worked, being super effective and all.
@johnherb4243 depends on stat spread. assuming neutral EV's and nature it's slightly better to use bug bite, but if he had a good nature and a few more EV's it could've been better. Either way it didn't matter, as it's a 4 hit KO either way (barring EV's, probably 3HKO in his case)

You're one of like... 3? youtubers who I instantly watch as soon as I see them upload. One little mistake isn't going to ruin your reputation for me. As a German its funny to read the Title. Gift Pokemon means Poison in German so i think he will play with Poison Types only.

Honestly, I'm tempted to try this one. I even have a team in mind: Emboar(Fire and Fighting), Simisage(Grass), Carracosta(Water and Rock), and Volcarona(Fire and Bug). It has a lot of type variety, and I think it could be fun.
I feel like trying to. Though I would choose Snivy so I could get as much type variety as possible.
@@SethTheSouthernWeirdo archeops can be 1 of the strongest 'mon in BW1 (not the sequels) if u use it carefully as seen in the video. Like for instance he switched out against Sawk cuz it has Sturdy & a rock move I think.
@@lipika2841 Sorry for the late reply. Anyway, I mainly thought of Carracosta just so I had a defensive Pokemon to take hits if need be, and I've used Carracosta in that role before with good effects.

I saw the original Ditto run, and I literally thought, if you did that with save states and a healing berry, you'd crush it. I watch you because your videos are great, I'm a little bit disappointed in you not disclosing it in the original video, but honestly, I don't care. I'm looking forward to next week's run

On the whole save state thing. It just went from “holy crap, he got really lucky!” To “ooooh, save state, that makes sense haha”

Had a really fun idea: Can you beat Pokemon Ruby with only a Skitty using Assist? You are allowed to catch any other Pokemon you want, teach them any TMs you want, and place them in your party, but you cannot use any other Pokemon in battle or level/breed them to get specific moves.
The issue was not the save states. The issue was that you presented the lucky run as legitimate. I wish you would have just stated, “I tried the ditto fight many times and got nowhere. I just wanted to see if it was theoretically possible with save states. After 100+ resets, I found out it is not possible for ditto to win.”
I am glad that you are so transparent to reveal this on your own, and I am not mad. But please announce when you are using save states so that insane luck is not accidentally confused with save states

I enjoy listening and watching your videos. Mistakes happen, and you always own up and make sure things are okay to do. Use rare candies, safe state that ish, and keep your sanity intact
I won't tell you that it's no big deal. because I get why you'd feel like it was. Like I said before, I appreciate the admission. Mistakes happen.
And in the future, if the challenge is boring, as Ditto tends to be due to how it works, I say go ahead and use Save States. Just like how endless grinding doesn't actually add to the challenge so it's okay to use Rare Candies, if the challenge is just in the luck you're getting (good or bad) then it shouldn't be a problem to save state so you get that luck.
Honestly, you should use the save states! It doesn't feel like cheating, and would probably help a lot with opening up some non work time!

It doesn't feel like cheating to you, but it might to him; it certainly would to me if I was using them in a challenge like this, at least outside of time-saving stuff. For example, when I played Mega Man Zero on the Wii U, I save stated at the start of missions because loading that was basically the same as resetting the game and loading a normal save.
Anyway, that's just my personal preference; I wouldn't care at all if he used them more liberally, but his general attitude leads me to believe that he just wouldn't want to.

I did get a little worried last challenge so it's good to hear that you're doing well.
About the ditto run thing, It honestly just sounds like it was a editing mistake, it's technically not a lie if you didn't try to intentionally deceive somebody as far as I am aware.
I think most people would've been just fine if you had not apologized, but instead just clarified that you did actually use the save state to see max possible luck there at the end and how it would go and forgot to mention it in the video due to being busy irl.
These things happen if there was no ill intent then that is the main thing that matters and there clearly was no ill intend.
Tbh when i saw how long the outro was I got worried something else bad had happened. Otherwise I like long outros, just after last week ya know, happy to hear you're doing well though. You live up to a high bar MDB!
The age old question: can I win?
Well you got a starter so yes. Obviously, you can beat any pokemon game with any starter and just the starter.
To be fair, you can beat just about any Pokémon game with anything that's not a magikarp, caterpie or one of those types of Pokémon. As long as it can least learn tms you can probably win with it. Only exception is if you count post game Steven or red fights where the get to really high levels.

Oh course the start of the run is going smoother than you normally tend to get. Your starting it with one of the intended Pokemon.
I know it's rare for you not to struggle from the start, so I think You're perspective has shifted a little over the year's.
Nice run, I know B&W is a longer slower game, but I like that you had to use your whole party in some way. In some of these multi pokemon runs it's just faster and easier to basically do a solo run.
I'd love to see you doing a gift Pokemon only run but with the randomiser turned on, see what you can do with what that throws at you.

I know this is really late, but one of the reasons that people seem so open to forgive you compared to other RUclipsrs, is that cheating in a video game (whether it’s on purpose or not) in an uncompetitive format, is a tiny speck compared to the leviathans of issues of others. Not to mention that your apology was genuine, took action to redress what you did, that it was obviously an accident, and that you’ve just been so genuine and good natured for so long.
I definitely suggest using set mode for team runs. Make them more interesting
yeah switch mode just makes any run with multiple pokemon extremely easy
me and a coworker added youtube subscriptions to each other's phone's on our first break, our second break i was looking up stuff for a game and he just goes. "can i beat mah-dry-bread with only pokemon?" and i just said "huh?" and he reads the notification again and goes, "ohhhhhhhhhhh, i haven't thought about pokemon since i was a kid 😄. and i Love challenges on video games"

I listen go your videos and dont usually look at them often, so I didn't know about the save state thing. I'm also not on twitter, so I didn't hear about the fallout until this video.
As I was watching rhis video, and saw how much time was left after the run was nearing its end, I thought "Oh no, I hope nothing bad happened to him!"

Fun fact about me is I always count the legendary Pokémon from these two games as a gift Pokémon because they’re constantly trying to shove them in your face even if you defeat them they come back and want you to catch them and use them
Although if you have a full box in these games they go straight to the tower near the ice gym

I think it's an honest mistake. The whole save state thing. I think it's very reasonable to check if the run was even possible, and really the answer is no. And honestly, it doesn't matter to me that you did that at the end. I've done save stated battles, you can pull some insane wins out of it by just rolling for misses and the like. I believe you when you say you don't do this in every run. I believe you when you say it's just cause it was ditto. You're a good guy. Don't fret about it. Sure, it was a mistake, techincally, but you deserve more than being chewed out for something small like that.
I'm actually hyped for the next challenge. I had never used Barboach either until gen 8, when I ran into a full-odds shiny Barboach early on in the playthrough. That replaced my Gyarados, and I ended up falling in love with it.

I've done this challenge! It was fun, and I loved my team, I went with Oshawatt because I didn't allow HM friends.
But there is Dog Armor! Also, that was a lucky battle there. And what fossil did you pick?
When Entei, Raikou, and Suicune need protection they wear Legendary Dog armour.

I think you should be allowed to do the daycare exp trick where you leave the pokemon in the daycare, go to the underground station and if you make it so something is pressing the up key you infinitely walk and if you leave it overnight you basically get a level 100 pokemon.
