My lower shock bolts were so rusted to the frame and to the inner sleeve of the shock that the mechanic had to cut it all out along with the welded on flange nut. Tip: When you change your tires, loosen the lower shock bolt, apply a bit of lubricant and retighten to spec. You'll reduce the likelihood of it being stuck when you have to replace it the next time.
I hope you never sell or lose this Civic, always great and helpful DYI videos Danny! Our 2008 has just over 173,000 km's and going strong! I'll add this to my list of repairs I'm willing to try!
Thanks. Have subscribed from West Yorkshire. I have a 2006 Honda Jazz 1339 cc iDSi engine 118k miles. Owned it 12 months. Had front struts and top mounts done recently. Changed manual gearbox oil also. Gearshift is quite notch long throw on these. Will look for your pcv valve video as think that would be good to have a go myself. Ive done a lot sorting water ingress problems . Enjoying learning.
Older model Acura/Honda’s used and some newer model Higher end ones still. use Double Wishbone Independent suspension. For some reason those struts last for over 150,000 miles or at least 20 years. And haven’t leaked. My 04 Accord has 91,700 miles. And is 21 years old and not leaking yet.
If you live in the northern part of the US with freezing cold and/or snow in winter months you may well have some complications and it will not be a 2 level of difficulty! The upper nut was frozen on mine (rear shock) and i had to cut it off, Used a small angle grinder and cut thru it no problem. the same kind of issue is also true on the lower mount! Had to cut the bolt with a reciprocating saw aka Sawzall. it came off .by cutting ,but not so easy a job, as most of these videos show, So, point is if you live in a cold weather area be prepared with extra tools and extra time to deal with this job.
I believe big dog on youtube did put the weight of the car on the shock before torturing it down because yes I believe it will twist and prematurely wear out your lower bushing..
Hi Danny, i respect and appreciate your work, it helped me a lot , i have 2010 Honda civic Coupe, the link for the part in description does not fit Coupe model
That’s a great question! My initial shock absorbers were blown out, so it really made a big difference. I’m currently looking into front struts, and once I find the best option, I’ll make a video to share with you. Stay tuned!
Hi Danny sir, Needed your view on the intrinsic problem of honda civic 8th generation. Why its rear right suspension/ wheel is always in lowered/sagged position compared to left side, even in unladen conditions ?
Danny, how about for the Honda Element vehicle, it's not as easy as I recalled. Do a video on changing the shocks/struts if u r able in the HE? That certainly was an easy swap out. 👍🏽
Please Help!! Danny any advice? 😅 total power failure between first & second key turn never get a chance to turn over BUT if after failure I disconnect and reconnect the battery it starts just fine! Battery test as goo, No corrosion and terminal connection is tight… car is 2008 element in Florida
Wish I could help, but without checking the car it’s hard to make a accurate diagnosis, starter motor? Ignition switch? Do you have an aftermarket alarm (weather it’s working or not) these cause starting problems as you’re describing, just things to check, a full diagnostic check is required
@@dannysdiygaragehey danny. For your 8th gen civic. Can you please tell me how many bottles of power steering fluid you used for the power steering fluid flush and refill video you made? @@DkpProductions absolutely agree! The upper nut was seized to the stud on one of my rear shocks. there are a few ways to get it off. I bought an angle grinder to cut off the top nut and stud to get it to come out. you might also try a reciprocating saw/Sawzall or up to the max an Acetylene/ oxy torch. but i dont recommend a torch due to potential fire hazard. Dear Dannys DIY Garage I hope you are well. Your recent videos look great but aren't reaching your target audience. No matter how good your video is, without proper SEO, keyword research, and correct titles, descriptions, and tags, you won't stand out from your competitors. This results in losing views, which is a big challenge for your channel. Fixing these issues will help you gain more viewers and subscribers, leading to higher rankings on RUclips, all organically. The lower bolt shouldn't be tightened until the car is at ride height. Otherwise that lower bushing is being twisted.

Also the front drivers side.
I have a video planned on inspecting ride hight coming out soon.
Do you need wheel alignment after the replacement?
No an alignment isn’t necessary, only when you do the front struts
Can you do a video on the evap system because sometime while driving i smell fuel

Odd my kyb rear struts came with 2 of the rubber pieces per side, so I didn't need to reuse the old ones
Lucky you, I thought it was pretty crappy that they didn't include everything needed.
I wish you had a discount code for the KYB Complete strut kit for the Honda Element!!! I'd buy them in a minute with a discount like that.😮

How hard is it to replace shocks for a non mechanical inclined DIY'er?
