    For $2.99 at the local auto parts store you can get a nice funnel with a flexible hose end that's about a foot or so long, perfect for transmission jobs like this.

    Can I just pour some of this fluid in my car or should I drain from the bottom still, my dipstick is loose also doesn’t tighten down and spilt out the top without knowing and it’s bone dry please lmk

    • @Corysdiyauto
      @Corysdiyauto  2 года назад +1

      You can just pour some new fluid in, but I would drain what's left in there and fill with new fluid. You should probably get a new dipstick too, so that it seals better and won't seep out.

  • @jjeff6113
    @jjeff6113 4 года назад +3

    If you leave a wobble extensionin the drain plug and release it a little at a time you can control the flow takes a little bit longer but the flow goes straight down into your drain pan instead of making a big mess. Just pull the drain plug a little bit out of the hole with the extension and let the fluid come out slowly

    Question I have a 03 Honda Civic lx automatic transmission .would changing the fluid cause damage or would it help my car run better it has 183641 miles on it?

    • @Corysdiyauto
      @Corysdiyauto  2 года назад +1

      Well, has it ever been changed before? If not, you take a risk of causing a problem if you decide to change the fluid. Always use Honda transmission fluid! You can do a drain/refill procedure (3 times) to try and get rid of all of the old fluid. Is the transmission shifting fine?

      @@Corysdiyauto I remember doing a transmission flush hooked up to a flushing machine on my 94 trans am, and a month later it got worse, they say a regular drain and fill is better so you don't get rid of the older fluid that's sort of protecting the seals, I have done 3 transmission fluid change at Honda dealer. the last one was 5 years ago, the prices are a bit higher now. How many quarts do the 03 Honda civic lx actually need to fill from empty, because the way I was charged at dealer I think I got ripped off or charged higher for labor. • @Corysdiyauto

      Ernest Vocell - There's an internal metal mesh filter that is supposed to be good for the life of the vehicle. You can't change it or clean it unless you tear apart the transmission.
      I know that there was a small external transmission filter (black in color) on our 2003 Accord that we used to have and I did change it. I don't think that the Civic had one.

      My only concern would be that changing the fluid might make it worse. I would hate to see that happen to you. I would perform a flush if I had the car to see if it helps. You can do a drain/refill at least 3 times with driving the car in-between fluid changes. This will help to remove most of the old fluid that's in the transmission. I hope that this helps.

      Pietro Dragonetti - The owner's manual doesn't say if you should check it cold or hot, so it might not matter. Just be sure that you check it with the engine off and on level ground. As long as the fluid level is between the two lines on the dipstick, then you're good. Try to check it cold and then check it again hot and see if there's a difference on the dipstick. I'm curious about that.

      Pietro, the vast majority of automatic transmissions should be checked with the engine running, at operating temperature, in park or neutral, while you check the dipstick. That is the correct method for almost all transmissions. I am not a Honda expert by any means, so you can call a Honda shop and ask them to be absolutely sure. But I would check it that way. Never check it cold.
