I appreciate this. My Typhon 3S V3 quit on me after a couple weeks with a failed bearing in the motor just as you have shown and replaced. I will be ordering these bearings as well for my new motor when it finally arrives. The original motor was so locked up, I couldn't remove the failed bearing. It was in shards.
Man, that's a bummer! I'm glad you found my video...keep an eye on that exposed bearing and replace when it gets worn and your new motor will last forever! Thanks for watching.
Awesome video. My motor seized up. The pulled the rotor out and all the bearings just fell out. Now the hard part is taking out the outer ring of the bearing. Thanks for the video.
Good luck with that outer ring of the bearing. Try to heat up the casing (it's aluminum so should change shape quickly) by either leaving it in the sun for a while or a blow dryer. Then, try to cool only the bearing (ice, frozen nail/screwdriver) by touching it with the cold item. Let me know how it goes!!
I got it out. It was pretty simple. I used a 1/2-13 flat bottom tap. Screw in the tap like I was going to thread a hole. Made sure it bottom out. Flipped the motor 180 and hit it out with a punch. I'm not a guy who likes making videos but might try to post something up to help others too.
I bought a v3 big rock as soon as they came out and a week later the bearing ( large side ) exploded and locked the motor up. At the time I didnt know what the issue was. Arrma sent me a new motor same spec so I installed that and the old motor is sitting in my parts box. I did and would reccomend putting a small o ring on the shaft behind the pinion gear. It will keep dirt out. Just dont put more than one as it will cause the motor to drag against the end cap and will eventually burn up. I did this with the new motor and it has been perfect since. Thanks for the video! Great info.
Just did mine in a new typhon v3 as a preventative measure as there are lots of reports of them disintegrating pretty fast although I suspect a tight mesh from factory is contributing a lot. Mine had a black rubber seal on and seemed perfect but hey ho it's done now, I put an SKF one in so hopefully that'll last a good while. TOP TIP- to get the old bearing out easily use the t bar from the wheel wrench and tap it down while holding the motor, comes out easy.
Cant thank you enough for this video...thanks a BUNCH for all these precious informations now made easily available...arrma and spectrum should send a new truck your way just for this video...
I replaced the front bearing using your guide. I bought the bearings that you linked to. Guess what happened. The new bearings broke within 30 seconds of driving. 😮 I bought a new motor, hopefully that one lasts longer.
I have 3 arrma 3s motors with the bearings locked up. I'm waiting for my new bearings from Ebay. I paid 20$ for 4 bearings! Wish I saw your video sooner. Can't imagine how many people bought a new motor because of a 2$ bearing!
Great video! I do repairs for a local hobby shop and ran into this bearing issue with one of the repairs. You saved me doing a lot of research. Thanks!
Thank you. I never knew about the beveled side of the spacer. I recently checked my motor and the spacer was slightly chipped. I think it's because it was backwards. Replaced it the correct way with a spacer from another motor.
head on crash for the second time on my typhon and just found that rattle in the motor shaft, motor doesn't sound smooth and quite anymore, thanks for the video now i gotta wait for the bearings!
Thanks for the video man! The same thing happened to my big rock v3 on the 4th run. Unfortunately half of the bearing is still in the motor and I can’t get it out but luckily horizon is sending me a new motor when they get off of back order 👍
Nice!! They just sent me the V2 motor made by Arrma and said they might not be able to get that spektrum one anymore (probably because the bearings keep failing would be my guess).
@RC Lee hey thanx for the link to bearings. My bearings were so bad well just the one in the nose that i couldn't get any numbers off of it , i got the number from the rear bearing and it ended up being to small when i took the race out and matched it up im in the process of repairing my motor only after about 9 or 10 runs and the bearing is blown out
Very helpful post. My typhon motor froze up and horizon is shipping a replacement but I took my old motor apart And the same bearing was obliterated. Just balls and shards of metal...and grease of course 🙄. Can't get the race of the dead bearing to budge though.
It is very difficult. I believe the housing and cap are aluminum, so maybe try to heat it up and the steel bearing shouldn't expand as much as the aluminum, and you might be able to get the rest out. Good luck and thanks for watching!
Great vid... after reading some comments on FB groups saying that this bearing change was difficult and then seeing this vid has me feeling great on how easy it is.. Great job man

@@rcleesd My bearing had a complete failure and came completely apart inside the engine. Getting all the broken pieces was easy, but getting the race out was a pain! The only way I was able to get the rest of the bearing out was to drill 2 1/16 holes on either side of where the shafts comes threw and use a small punch to tap it out. Once the new bearings come in and I get everything back together I plan on putting silicone over the holes to keep moisture and dust/ dirt out of it and this will be a backup motor. I see you did a wonderful work for changing the motor bearings especially the big one 5x16x5. For me I am still suffering from that. And I couldn’t fit it , so if you don’t mind to show me an easier way
Try heat and cold (freezer or sunshine) to expand the aluminum housing and try putting the bearing in a sealed zip lock bag into the fridge or freezer for an hour.
I am waiting on my replacement bearings. I had to make a Hook from a Small blade Screw Driver as a tool to remove the Rear Bearing.. Used a propane torch to heat the rear cap held by the Pliers.. Then I slowly pride the bearing out.. It was not easy.. I would love to see Bread Crumbs remove Yours...😂 I personally don't believe that at All..
Great video thanks for making it .I know for sure it will help many people. I've been stripping my pinoin gear from my v5 typhon since the vary first run .my mesh is correct with my new pinion gear but I'm already noticing wear on it again I will take a look at my bearings because the car is brand new and I'm not sure what els could be causing this
You're welcome! Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find those replacement screws, but I have heard that some people have found them on Ebay from time to time.
My response isn't showing up. Unless it keeps showing up but I don't see it. But those screws are on Amazon if u even need the cap screws for the motor. www.amazon.ca/XunLiu-Grade-Button-Socket-Screws/dp/B0756WS15T/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=m2x3+screw+button&qid=1570419268&s=hi&sr=1-1
Well thanks for letting me know. I could have swore that the new motors had the same size bearings and the old one has two different sizes. I think the one I ordered from tbr had all 3 bearings just in case. Well I hope lol.
Interesting, that may be the case, production has been crazy lately and companies are using what they can get these days. Let me know when you get it taken apart, if they are the same size or not. Thanks for watching!
No worries thank you so much. Got a question too ask? Where do you get those shims on back of the motor. You know the sad face things. I have another motor I'm fixing and now know why it broke on me. Thanks to your video. But I must have lost those when I took the motor apart a year ago. If could tell me what or part number would be great. Thank you!! ☠️💯🥃
@@skeletorrc2583 Honestly, I don't know where to buy them. My best guess would be to try to source something similar to those at a hobby shop or Home Depot. I doubt that Amazon would carry them, but possibly on Ebay. Maybe you could try to contact Spektrum directly, but I think you have to go through Horizon. Their solution would be to send a new motor though. Good luck and let me know if you find a solution!
I have found some on Amazon that come in a kit. 200+ different sizes. From 3mm too 30mm so we will see. Thank you for responding if they are it I will gladly sure the info with you. ☠️🧟
That's interesting...... I got a bunch of Arrma Granites well I got alot of Arrma and traxxas trucks and a few other brands. But anyway my Granites all had Arrma branded motors.... I got the BLX v3s and they have the BLX 3660 3200kv motors.. I haven't gotten one with a stock spektrum 3660 3200 motor.. that's pretty cool bro and those are my V3 trucks.. my v2 and OG V1 granites also had the BLX motors same size same kv.. and I even ordered two new Granites from horizon hobby I picked up a new mega v3 and a blx v3 and they legitimately just showed up a hour ago.. and my blx has a blx motor as well.. that's cool you got the better motor lol.. I normally swap my blx motors and ESC's for real spektrums and remove Arrmas blx / spektrum hybrids. I mean nothing wrong with the BLX systems but I found out that true spektrum esc and motors work better and seem to have more "ass" behind em.. excuse the language 😂. But it's true.. now one of my Granites I built up is my project joker truck.. it's got the outcast 4s body which is black I put the arrma Skinz joker skin on the chassis which I paid alot to get it here to north Carolina lol. It's normal 15 dollars but shipping across the atlantic ocean is like 35 dollars lol.. so I ended up spending 50 dollars for it.... But I got two I got the joker and the lollipop girl for my Granites and ordered more yesterday for my outcast 6s ect. But anyway my project Granite mega v3 has all metal arms shocks rods it came stock with metal gearing but I went ahead and swapped em out for hot racing bullet proof diffs so it's all metal now I made a custom aluminum center drive shaft at my dad's machine shop it's hella nice and it's anodized to a candy apple green color. My motor and spur module is aluminum also green my arms are green my rods are purple shocks are purple but I also got green ones as well. It's 99% integy hop ups. Now the motor is a 4076 surpass 2200kv it's black with the fins on it and the esc is a hobbywing Quicrun BL 120 and I run it on my Ovonic 5200 50c 3s lipos. Which I love those batteries very durable and trustworthy batteries. I had one of em charged fully for 3 weeks I totally forgotten bout it and I went to check it n discharge it and balance back out.. and when I checked it it was still at 12.6 V all cells where equal still..... 99% capacity which 3 of my chargers said the same thing.. so yeah those Ovonics are amazing. So I run them 110% on everything.. but yeah man you can put a 4076 size motor in your Granites it leaves a 1/4" space between the back plate and the reciver box you would have to press a little harder to get the motor out but it's worth it 😂.. it's so much faster then it was with my blx 3200 and my outcast 4s motor which is a 3668 size which is also a really good upgrade to a bigger motor. But that 4076 is a straight up monster in the granite. Way more torque and top end I got a 17t pinion on a 57 spur all mod 1 all steel atm. My other granites except my new mega v3 I just got which is my 4th mega truck all has hot racing and other steel spurs in them.
Thank you for the thoughtful response, I really enjoyed reading it! That's so cool that you made a custom center driveshaft! I bet that purple and green looks amazing! I'll have to take a look at those Ovonic batteries...Ive been using spektrum batteries, but keep losing cell balance, even after balancing, so I'm getting some dead cells, but might be from the hard bashing, not sure. Thanks for all the info and tips, I really appreciate it!

Try heat and cold (freezer or sunshine) to expand the aluminum housing and try putting the bearing in a sealed zip lock bag into the fridge or freezer for an hour.
Thanks for the info. Like u said there’s no info out there about Spektrum.
My pleasure! Thanks for watching.
Pretty cool thanks for the info 🤘😬🍻

I'm glad it helped, thanks for watching and subscribing!
Amazing video! This info is gold !!
Thank you!!
I am waiting on my replacement bearings. I had to make a Hook from a Small blade Screw Driver as a tool to remove the Rear Bearing.. Used a propane torch to heat the rear cap held by the Pliers.. Then I slowly pride the bearing out.. It was not easy..
I would love to see Bread Crumbs remove Yours...😂
I personally don't believe that at All..
I definitely didn't do the bread crumb method, haha.
thank you for this video. it's very helpful.
You are very welcome, glad it helped!

Exactly what I needed help with, you Legend
Thank you!
Great video thanks for making it .I know for sure it will help many people. I've been stripping my pinoin gear from my v5 typhon since the vary first run .my mesh is correct with my new pinion gear but I'm already noticing wear on it again I will take a look at my bearings because the car is brand new and I'm not sure what els could be causing this
I think it is movement in the adjustable motor mount, but not sure that's what it is...definitely annoying!
@@rcleesd I'll keep a close eye on that thanks for the info
Fantastic video and very helpful.

You're welcome! Best of luck finding the bearings, hopefully soon!
thanjks for sharing
Thanks for watching!
Thank you! Do you know any replacements for the screws that hold on the back cover? I may have stripped them..
You're welcome! Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find those replacement screws, but I have heard that some people have found them on Ebay from time to time.
@@rcleesdI’ll search. Thanks!
Thanks. I appreciate this vid. I’m going to subscribe
Thanks for watching and substring!

Very helpful. Thank you!! 🧟
Thanks for watching, glad it helped!
Looking at the TRB bearings and wondering how they have held up compared to stock?
I also have the BLX 2400KV 4s motor does that motor have the same size bearings.?
Hey Trey! The bearings have held up well, no issues. I'm not sure about the 4s motor, but I would assume it would be a bit bigger than the 3s version.
Thank. You!
You are very welcome!
Cheers mate!
