  • Here's Jay back with another Keith Richards 5 string open g tuning guitar lesson in the style of the Black Crowes.
This lesson shows you the chords and riffs you need to know to play a song like Twice as Hard in open G tuning.
It includes some Keef style chords and some slide work.
If you're new to open G tuning, check out this video to get you started
    www.youtube.co...
Jay is using a Danelectro U2 with a Kent Armstrong bridge pickup into a Blackstar ID 60 TVP amp.

Looks like I am 5 years late to the party! Great lesson and song man. I screw around on the acoustic most of the time and in open G I tune the E up to D instead of cutting it off. On the acoustic it adds a lot of resonance and I don't have to have multiple guitars to go back to standard tuning without replacing the E string. Open tuning and drop tuning are cheat codes in some of the greatest music ever written.

Awesome guitar and great lesson! I loved that Black Crows album! It got me through some rough nights in the hospital after a serious motorcycle accident! Nothing like some great tunes to take your mind off how crappy you feel! I love the open "G" riffs and sound...pure bluesy rock n roll! I'm gonna have to tune a guitar to the open "G" and give this a try. Thanks again!☺

I love the Keith Richard’s up strum with your arm. You even make the correct face. When you bar on the second fret, you would get an A chord. When you use the partial C chord form, you are essentially playing the fourth. A chord to D. If played open, G chord, then C.

Forgot how much I loved this song from back in the day. Thought for my 50th I would add slide to my guitar playing skills (which ain't much) and was getting frustrated because I couldn't find something simple. Stumbled on your video and this is SUCH a fun song to play and you teach it so very well. Glad I discovered you. Love the 'undisclosed bat cave'. Love those Fenders on the wall back there.

Cool Man. Another good one. Gonna take the E string off a guitar I rarely play and put it back in the rotation. You're a good teacher. Just discovered you today, and I'm diggin' on all the open G stuff.
