The emotion on their faces is legitimately incredible and proves that this choir genuinely loves the arrangement and being part of a choir. The director is very very good too. He gives great cues and keeps the members engaged.
well, that's cute, but you need to seriously rethink going to heaven. do you know if you will get in? do you know how to? you need to investigate this, now. please
Seeing performers cry through this you realize how much songs hit the heart when they are part of your journey, The blonde towards the end trying to catch her breath thru tears got me.
If you're crying so bad, that you have to sob, you can't really sing. That part of the song just needs a lot of air. She is singing very emotionally, though, if you mean the girl with the red lipstick and the tassel earrings.
way wrong person. 3:13 Second row, right hand screen to the left, 8 in. She is sobbing, not breathing. You can watch it for about 10 seconds. That is not a lack of technique, that's some life on display and it's beautiful.
The way the sopranos hit the high notes to give ornaments is just, heavenly. And how the tenors and basses deliver the cantus firmus so solidly. God I wish I was there to witness such brilliance.
I Love how this choir brings together People from Every culture, every background and Every skin colour. Being a former choir singer, I am stunned. This is perfect.
@@KaraNine Uhuh, and that's why it's going through social and political crisis. Once people knock off their pink glasses they will realize diversity isn't always good. In fact, it's almost never a good thing in a long run. History only confirms this.
I love how the conductor barely has to move, they’re just working off his facial expressions and delicate hand movements. They’re so tuned in with each other
I knew nothing of this choir or of this University until now. I see they are from South Africa and ranked as the number one such choir in the world. What I see is a well honed group of talented singers who all seem dedicated to their craft with the skill to deliver a performance from the heart that will impact everyone. Look at the love on their faces and the emotional delivery of their performance. A representation of all kinds and color of people everywhere. Thanks of course to Ed Sheeran for this remarkable song. And, to the beautiful blonde with the yellow band and glasses, you bring joy to my heart.
I was fortunate to hear this performance live. I had goosebumps then and listening to this now, I can’t stop listening to it. You guys were Choir of The World in my eyes.
This is just so beautiful! Thank you a lot for your unique choir. I wish I could be on the concert, it has to be be a unforgettable experience. Greetings from Germany and Merry Christmas to you all!
The BEST choir ever. No "star conductors", no waste of resources, no excessive theater/acting. Just music. Awesome good vocal music. I'm a BIG fan of you, people! As a choir conductor, it's a pleasure to hear - and see - astounding arrangements, an awesome choir and a great conductor. Congratz, Mr der Merwe. Congratz to ALL singers. When I first heard this song by Ed Sheeran, tears were streaming down my face as I remembered my mom gone just a few years. Now here it is in my favorite genre of music. I might just have to put a bug in my choir director's ear for next year.
My nana just passed away a few days ago. We were as close as two people could be I love her with all my heart. This performance already made me cry but now it has a whole new meaning to me. I know she’s at peace and happy now.
I love how the director barely has to move, they’re just working off his facial expressions and delicate hand movements. They’re so tuned in with each other
all the humans who is in this choir, i hope you read this. I want to tell you, that you have such a talent, and that you moved me, My life havent been so easy. But what is an easy life... This choir adds a whole new layer of meaning to “transcendent”. And why not. They are simply the best in the world. ( I have listened to all of their online performances, many times.) Also, some of these amazing young people now work in healthcare. So, many are consummate professionals in more than one way. Nkosi Sikelel i’Africa.

IMHO, the BEST choir of the World! No words to describe how singers and the conductor are involved with the music. No "star feelings", no "I'm better than you feelings". Just music. Very good vocal music. Best regards from Brazil. Again and again. P.S. - My "challenge" is still valid! I wrote some arrangements of Brazilian music for mixed choir. So, what about this wonderful choir sing them? It will be a GREAT pleasure and a incomparable honour.
I actually visited Stellenbosch over New Year. Well it was break and the city was cleared out. But I have to admit that Stellenbosch is absolutely beautiful and the vineyards and the countryside are incredible. Greetings from Germany
Wow, just seeing this for the first time. A close friend of mine has a little brother in Stellenbosch's choir. They just lost their mother to Covid-19, and - strangely enough - my friend's brother experiences one of the most vivid displays of emotion during the performance (which, I now realize, is almost a year to the day the video was uploaded. So very sad.
I love how the conductor at the end conducts basicaly with his eyes. Just looking at those young, talented people telling them not to over exaggerate at the top of the song. Absolutely brilliant.
One of my biggest dreams would be to join the Stellenbosch University Choir. I've been listening to all the recordings I can find and I am in love with the voice of this beautiful choir. I only hope that I can become good enough to audition and get in. Absolutely stunning. This song always makes me cry, but this arrangement gives me a feeling of sadness, peace, elation, and joy, all at once. I can only describe that feeling as a love for music.
My dad died of a massive stroke at age 61 on Sunday, July 16th. I am completely torn apart, and I remembered how much I love this arrangement and performance of Supermarket Flowers, so now I’m back. I’m in so much pain, but Stellenbosch is once again filling my soul.
What a great conductor to express those fine nuances of emotions he wants the choir to transport. It's so beautiful, joyful to watch yet so sad... Amazing work of every single singer!
I dindt even listened to the music. I just stayed looking at the faces of the singers and I din't need to hear the song. I was feeling it just looking at them. Feeling the song. Like wow.
My ex girlfriend introduced to this song and we played it a lot. When we broke up, listening to it always tore me apart... I love this rendition, it's angelic.
This arrangement is really hard to sing through not starting to sob. Goosebumps are a sure think here. When we reached measure 14, where the Gb major chord opens up with the bases, the strength of the harmony (and the key) together with the beautiful lyrics took us all by surprise. Although the arrangement is far from easy, it works great incl. the aleatrico part at the end. It is the strange feeling that, although the song makes you sad, you want to sing/hear it again. And again...
I have no words for this. Their performance is soul-touching in every single way and it gave me goosebumps knowing what the song means. I don't think I've ever seen a choir as beautiful as this before - you can see their raw emotion and the diversity is amazing. So glad I stumbled across this video❤️

It probably will in like 9 years

Spot on! This is what makes me come back and watch this video over and over and.... besides I’m a big fan of the song.

usually not a fan of pop songs turned into choral arrangements but this brought tears to my eyes. absolutely beautiful x
It's a shame that the audio quality is so bad. I love this choir.

the sopranos are so good but the audio cant deal with their pitch!
