Ed Sheeran just has the gift of writing songs that are so relatable to so many people. The best thing about him is that fame didn’t change him and he’s still the humble guy he was before he was famous.

DUde..no! Ed admits that whatever he has become, has become out of practice and determination. go check out his very early singing vids...you wont be able to believe that it's the same person who is singing in this video with such a huge crowd. Nobody has a gift. GOD is not partial. It's only our efforts that allow us to harness the oppurtunities that god provides us and turn them into gifts.

We played this for our mother when she passed away. We looked at songs to play for her service and I ran across this song. I had never heard it before. Pretty much took me to my knee’s at 60 years old. I was asked to speak at her funeral and I added his words ( a heart that’s been broke is a heart that’s been loved ) to my speech about mom. After I spoke this song was played, our minister was sitting directly in front of me. He had never heard the song before and I could see him listening to the words. By the last chorus he was saying the words to the song. When the funeral was over he came and talked to me about what I had said and what a wonderful song. I must have listened to it a 100 times before her funeral with the thought that if I heard it enough it wouldn’t hit me so hard. I was wrong…. 10 months later and it still hits me. What a song and what a performer…. Simply the best!

“She was one of the nicest women you’d ever meet and she was my mom’s mom. It was written for my mom’s point of view; it was choosing loads of specific things and then just finishing it as a song.”
“My grandmother was very ill during the time I was making the record and passed away at the end of me making the record so we wrote this song as a tribute and just left it on.

The saddest and most heartfelt moment is during the songwriter film, watching him play it to his dad for the first time, fighting back the tears, sippng his coffee and staring into the cup, when the song ends, glancing up through teerful eyes looking for approval from his father who himself, off camera is probably fighting back tears himself. brought tears to my 50 years old eyes.....Ed, your grandmother will beso proud.

The fact no guitar was used shows how vulnerable he was allowing himself to be. I just lost my grandmother and randomly found this performance, but damn does it resonate with me. It's a great feeling to cry and laugh at the same time. I, like Ed know our loved ones are in a better place. It doesn't change the hurt we have from them no longer being present, however, we take comfort in knowing we'll see them again and they are watching us above. Hallelujah indeed.

My daddy died the 20th of august by covid 19, the last time I saw him was last year and he was able to at list meet my boyfriend, didn't know it would be the last time I would've felt his warm hug and love. Nobody deserves to die without there family near...
"You where an angle in the shape of my father
when I fell down you'd be there holding me up
Spreading your wings as you go
and when God taked you back we'll say Hallelijah
    You're home"

I took the supermarket flowers from the windowsill
Threw the day old tea from the cup
Packed up the photo album Matthew had made
Memories of a life that’s been loved
Took the get well soon cards and stuffed animals
Poured the old ginger beer down the sink
Dad always told me don’t you cry when you’re down
But mum there’s a tear every time that I blink
Oh I’m in pieces it’s tearing me up but I know
A heart that’s broke is a heart that’s been loved
So I’ll sing Hallelujah, you were an angel in the shape of my mum
When I fell down you’d be there holding me up
Spread your wings as you go
And when God takes you back
    He’ll say Hallelujah, you’re home
I fluffed the pillows, made the beds, stacked the chairs up
Folded your nightgowns neatly in a case
John said he’d drive, then put his hand on my cheek
And wiped a tear from the side of my face
I hope that I see the world as you did cause I know
A life with love is a life that’s been lived
So I’ll sing Hallelujah, you were an angel in the shape of my mum
When I fell down you’d be there holding me up
Spread your wings as you go, when God takes you back
    He’ll say Hallelujah, you’re home
Hallelujah, you were an angel in the shape of my mum
You got to see the person that I have become
Spread your wings and I know
That when God took you back, he said Hallelujah you’re home

@@-.a9942 Thank you for your helpful note. I actually knew that fact about his grandmother's death. Interestingly I also learned that Ed calls both his grandmother and his mother "mum". At first I thought it was his mother because of his use of "mum", but later watched another video where he shared it was in fact his grandmother who died which explains why I used his word, "mum". One of Ed's best songs, I think. Blessings.

May U, me too. Same exact day. I miss my mom terribly too. For you and me, it's not a coincidence that this beautiful and heartfelt song was posted on the day that it was. Hope you find comfort in it as I do. Blessings and love to you.

Ed is the best artist I have ever heard I'm 60 this year so I've heard a lot. I'll never get to see him but I want him to know his music has had so much meaning for me. I have terminal cancer now and my sons have chosen this song on my way in. I've chosen 2 more of Eds. Thankyou so much for your great talent, songs and just for being you 🙏

Ed Sheeran is really talented but if you know Beethoven you would know Beethoven is on a whole different level 😂 I'm sorry but pop music just cannot compare to classical music

    • @ello-m8

Damazen I love ed's music but Beethoven is just something else entirely.
Actually, comparing them doesn't really work as their music is vastly different from each other.

In 2018 I was 20 and I sang this to my mom as I had to make the decision to pull the plug. She was my absolute best friend and my other half. I heard my family outside sobbing as I was doing and now ever since I can’t get through it without losing it. She was an Angel In the shape of my mom. Simple as that

You can tell how much one cares for another from the sound of their voice. You can feel somewhat extraordinarily high levels of pain that seems to not see an end to the agony, but at the same time, there is joy and love flowing through, like a gentle breeze on a Spring day.

"HALLELUJAH"! This song makes me proud I'm a Mum. Ed Sheeran was raised-well (I can tell). What a gift, Ed Sheeran's received, the precious gift' of "Humanity"! I bow-down to Ed Sheeran & to his Mum. +Both are blessed. I've always been a "lyric-listener" first.🌎StayWell, Global Friends.
