Can we talk talk about those BASSES??? The fullness, softness yet power and control shown are unbelievable…they sound like a track
Sometimes they manage to sound like a plucked cello
Most guys can do baritone
Yesssss I was amazed lol the softness but yet so full and rich
Man oh Man what I would do to be part of those basses. They sound eclectic
Swears
This is indeed the world's best choir. A choir where you can hear all the voices come together as one to produce such magic. The tenors and altos are just amazing. As always, the sopranos and the bass never disappoint. Absolutely fantastic 💯💯💯
Everyone knows the best chior is the one from pitch perfect
Philippine Madrigal Singers is also a contender. ❤️
I just ran the algorithm. They are the 73rd best choir.
@@vtbiker7246 can you check what's the top 3 according to your algorithm?
@@vtbiker7246 what algorithm? They are no1 in the top 1000 world wide.
I am sobbing my heart out. I sang in this choir in 1986. (later edit: I sang in this choir, not this song). I am 59 years old. Most of my thoughts of late have been "feeling a little bit low", and here you come and lift us all up again. THANK YOU SO MUCH.
Oh Johan, you enjoy all your beautiful memories ~ what a privilege… but there are many more wonderful memories to come! 😌
I'm a UCT kid, and I absolutely LOVE this choir. I'd love to see a performance with all the alumni, I bet it'd sound phenomenal
I feel you Johan, I was a first year in 1986. Proud a Matie!
Johan Kotze. I did it in 1996. Will never forget that chapter in my life.
❤️
This is so beautiful ❤❤❤😮😮😮😮
For some reason I believe this is what we are all suppose to sound like when we’re all in harmony with each other. Everyone has value regardless of race, color, religion or creed, our World could take a lesson here.
Thank you...🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Wow.... 💕
Better days are coming ❤️🇿🇦
@@oaikanyegarakumakoe5185 - I’m ready.
Ahmen. Absolutely beautiful group
So true! Muchas gracias 🙏🏼
Dear South Africa. We hear so much about South Africa's many great problems. But you are stronger than you may know. The fact that this choir, the greatest in the world, is both so diverse and so excellent, shows that fact. South Africa also has many other strong and successful institutions in many sectors. They and your young people are your country's promise.
If only the leaders in SA can understand that working together will be the beginning of a country that works for all of its people! How wonderful is the sound of this South African choir!
South Africans are the best at many things! Love my country!
South Africa is truly, unfortunately, a land of polar juxtapositions🤦🏽♂️
@@raphaelsphesihle4622 You understand things well. I am sure you are among those working to make things better. There are many institutional strengths to build on.
Oh South Africa, the land we ❤ Thank you for your kind words!!
Just think. The greatest choir in the world is a bunch of twenty-year-olds. And think too what they show the world about the strengths and potential of South Africa. And don’t forget that even before Andre van der Merwe made this stunning arrangement, Jerusalema had become something close to the world’s anthem, not to mention a worldwide dance phenomenon of historic proportions. Thank you South Africa. You are stronger than you know. Land of Music and more.
As a proud South African, this comment makes me want to cry 😢😭
True so true
Greatest choir in the world?
@@Durufle68 According to Interkultur, yes.
@@docsafari Greatness in what, achievement? I mean they are great. But does it have to be the greatest choir?
This a very special gift
I really loved how they harmonize together and I can hear all the different parts of a choir.
Simplesmente perfeito.
Maravilhoso
I love being part of this choir so so much !!!
You should be so proud! I still want to see the choir live. I studied at stellies and didn’t attend any of the performances, biggest regret!
You should be very proud bro. I wish I can be part of it as well.
Can you please do me a favor after the passing of my two gest friends please I beg you and the choir, the Africa prayer makes me cry even though I never told my two bffs goodbye, it tore my soul apart, but they will always be in my heart, how can I email the choir director please I like Annina Kemp
Yes I knew my bff ever since jr high school but she passed away in February this year two months later my other bff passed away and her mom
You are a blessed men.
The blend between the tenors and sopranos singing the melody together is so seamless, I don’t know if I’ve ever heard anything quite like it before
All the vocals together is mouth dropping
This song is so good
What an honour to have been able to record again after 18 months of lockdown
When's the next show? I'd love to see this choir live
This choir is just beautifully amazing because the almost. basses and the tenors are all harmonizing so very well together!!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
😇The choir that deserves a grammy award👌👌👌🙌🙌🙌 beautiful melody.
I concur
Who else has just watched this video in 2024?🥺
Hi
I just did..what an amazing and awesome choir...wow
Beautiful and gorgeous voices blessing my ears ❤
I am speechless.
Just Wouaaah!and Thanks..I am moved! Bravo! Impressive!
I never studied at Stellenbosch University, but when I listen to your choir, I feel like a Matie.
Never disappoint love their music for years now ❤❤❤❤
The sadness of this is that it doesn't go on forever and is lost through time. These young people will age and go their separate ways. You wish that this time would last forever with all the members of the choir retaining their youth, beauty, and harmonious glory. God bless you one and all that you devoted your best to this glorious music.
I’m crying happy tears
*Lyrics*
I'm trying to hold my breath
Let it stay this way
Can't let this moment end
You set off a dream in me
Getting louder now
Can you hear it echoing?
Take my hand
Will you share this with me?
'Cause darling, without you
All the shine of a thousand spotlights
All the stars we steal from the night sky
Will never be enough
Never be enough
Towers of gold are still too little
These hands could hold the world but it'll
Never be enough
Never be enough
For me
Never, never
Never, never
Never, for me
For me
Never enough
Never enough
Never enough
For me
For me
For me
All the shine of a thousand spotlights
All the stars we steal from the night sky
Will never be enough
Never be enough
Towers of gold are still too little
These hands could hold the world but it'll
Never be enough
Never be enough
For me
Never, never
Never, never
Never, for me
For me
Never enough
Never, never
Never enough
Never, never
Never enough
For me
For me
For me
For me
Thanks
Thax so much ❤

Absolutely incredible choir with genius choir director and amazing team, every single arrangement is phenomenal thank you for the music. Siyabonga
高校3年で受験なのに鬱から立ち直れなくて、消えてしまいたかった時の唯一の救いがこの動画でした。

Unbelievably beautiful! Stirring sounds, full of emotion and control.
The vocals are so strong and it sounds beautiful!
If this doesn't give you goosebumps, nothing will!

My son makhado is studying in stellenbosch university and I am a big fan of this university and I am following each and every activities: choir, news, events, etc. I love stellenbosch university soo much and day and night I thank God for this opportunity to be part of it.
Mit Abstand der beste Chor, den ich kenne - und das schon seit Jahren!!!
Though time and circumstance caused me to leave, hearing the glory and majesty of this choir will always remind me that this family is eternal. That though our voices may not sound with you anymore, but that our souls will forever be bound to the choir in harmony.
howdy patch, would have undoubtedly resulted in goosebumps had I been there to witness this live.
The best voices ever, keep up the good work.
RUclips's algorithm landed me here. Decided to listen since i LOVE this song. I'm so glad I did! What an amazing performance! Was happy to hear it's a South African choir. Love from Kenya 🥰
Some fine vocal study, very rare, for a year, would, with this director, justify "best" choir title.
I just sat here and cried while listening to this song...thank you Lord Jesus. You truly are my closest friend...You have always been there for me, and I cannot thank you enough.
Amen to that bro
This choir is simply God's gift to humanity, like the sun and the moon and the stars
The arrangement is wonderful. Big respect to the writer/producer 👏👏👏
Can't beleive am just seeing this 😢😢...this made my night 😊😊lovely
I got chills
LOVE the male voices in this arrangement. So nice to see all of you on RUclips again!! Glad you found a performance venue that works during these pandemic times!!
You guys bring the heavens and angels down with your voices
That base, The base hits hard. What sort of Magic is that.
As a avid choir lover and an absolute fan of The Greatest Showman, this gave me goosebumps for days!!!
Saw André work his magic when he was with the SA Youth Choir and they came to perform at choir festival in Potchefstroom.
I was part of the Northwest Youth Choir back then.
Still one of my favourite conductors and musicians. Thank you for the magic, André and the SUC.
I hear there's this Choir in heaven that's so good. Well...I think they have a competition 🥺
Best Choir in the world🧤💕💖💓
This is the greatest acapella singing performance in history arguably TOP 10 EASY
Thank you to the choir and the conductor for blessing us again. We missed these musical renditions from Stellenbosch University during this Covid-19 crisis.
There are vibrations in this world that are healing on a cellular scale.
I guess even a top notch rendition as this is NEVER ENOUGH for those disliking this presentation. What a wonderful world.
-with love from Nigeria.
The song, the arrangement, alle these voices en especially the male voices, so incredible, so colorful and the conductor with his friendly eyes, I love it!
If you love great music this the choir to watch, they give you a lift and lighten your day.
I live in the USA now but it is wonderful to hear the choir again.
1. I found your choir through your amazing Baba Yetu video, and I'm glad to see you're still active!
2. Love watching your choir director work, his joy is clear in every motion, as is his pride in the choir.
3. I love how this piece works, in terms of using purity of tone with a softer volume. It grabs my heart.
Literally the same here! I've listened to Baba Yetu at least 100 times. It never gets old and always gives me chills
Me toooooo!!!!!!! I had to go download it!!!
The director😩😩 he's the soul of this choir!
Baba Yetu is pure uncut magic

How wonderful!!! thank you Stellenbosch University Choir for this beautiful performance. I have followed them since the beginning of the pandemic from Buenos Aires Argentina. I am very excited to hear and see them. I also sing in a choir but since everything started we couldn't go back. I hug you with great emotion, thank you for so much beauty, in the music and on your faces full of love and passion. Thank you all Blessings !!
This particular choir made me fall in love with stellenbosch university and south Africa. Can't wait to have my masters degree here😊😊
their voices made me weep like a baby
I'm mesmerized. Thank you everyone for sharing your gifts, it gives pleasure to my soul.
Unbelivable! Goosebumps all long! ❤❤❤
Andre's layered rich adaption is close to vocal and musical perfection.
That is why I call it a choral tone poem. And he is a genius with layers of harmony, pacing, bringing his choristers to perfection. He has also built a culture of excellence for this choir that means that choir veterans are his allies in bringing new members along. This choir. - and many others in SA - perform at a level above the world average. They also draw richness both from indigenous music and the vibrant SA pop scene.
Such a beautiful sound .
Whatever your mood, this choir uplifts the spirit, my favourite is a lockdown Die Donker rendition.
Nothing in this world is enough for each of us, because what we each need is not of this world but above it.
That is where love and life originates.
You can't imagine how much i'm touched by the melodies of this choir❤🇷🇼🇷🇼
magical
Let's just say it! This is what South Africa is about. Being the best at the best. May these wonderful people represent who we are as South Africans. Beautifully and powerfully united in our diversity. Together we are amazing.
The fact that people join and leave this choir every year and yet it stays so consistently amazing 😭😍 wow, just wow

Your music is for peace and freedom for our world. So many things are complicated but the answer may be simple against hate and pain: Music for our souls and hearts. God bless you all and thank you for the joy you are still given us all over the world! Nelson Mandela would be surely proud of you!
PROUDLY SOUTH AFRICAN
World class. Still the best of the best.!! So much talent.
They always give us a foreshadow of how heaven choirs will sound
André is the greatest choirmaster showman on earth. Just love love what he can do.
It is my DREAM to be in this choir or one like it…..but this is perfection. Chills chills chills!!
Really amazing performance. Beautiful sound. Well done to the singers and the maestro 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Standing ovation till my hands are numb. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
This orchestra is never enough!
The original theme was the first song that put my son to sleep in my lap, a week old. Today, at the age of 3, he still gets dizzy when he listens to this song.
Your version in this choir... makes me vibrate, get goose bumps, drop a tear.
Thanks.
The absolutely BEST choir in the world. SO SO !! proud of them 🇿🇦
What a magical thing
I will never stop loving stellenbosch university choir. big up guys
the ending gives me the chills every time! the look on his face, the move, the basses power… just devotion and passion at the highest
I discovered this choir at the height of the covid pandemic in China. I had just moved there. This choir kept me alive. Thank you for lifting me out of the darkness. Welcome back. We had missed your bespoke renditions of so many great songs. Also, if I could do life again, I would go to uni at Stellenbosch, if only to be a part of this choir. Thanks, André, and your phenomenal choir.
Honestly!!! Chills, literal chills!!! In my humble opinion, the choir's best performance.
You always have been a bright light in the dark hours of humankind in the last years, that spread hope and confidence all over the world. Thank you for your wonderful music!
beautiful. stunning. elegant. I'll give them a huge thumbs up.
I don't understand people that dislike this video .
Isn't it lovely the way the choir all look so happy to be part of this magic.
New uploads from the Stellenbosch University Choir - made my morning. Such a lovely performance.
Today I was singing a song and said to myself "I wish I could l sing, at least be able to hold a note, one day I will learn" Then Yotube recommends this, thanks for crushing my dreams with such an extraordinary artwork.
Der Chorleiter hat so eine liebevolle und sanfte Energie. 😊
Vor allem auch, weil seine Besetzungen im Wechsel der Semester veränderlich sind... Problem aller Studentenchöre
To me, the best choirs in the world are in South Africa, The Philippines, Russia, China and Latvia (no particular order) and of course Stellenbosh is there at the very top.
U guys are deserve to be recognised globally, that's why I have humble request to you about audition at Agt🎉🎉🎉
The dude just standing there staring at the conductor the whole time, not singing, not swaying, no feeling... nothing! Cracks me up! I feel like the performance left me wanting more though!
Hello Andy. How are you doing?
