Awesome man. When I was playing mandolin in an Irish punk band back in the day, my warmups were always "Sweet Child of Mine" and "Are you gonna go my way"
Brilliant. What more can I say? I play guitar forever and have had a mandolin for a few years but am afraid to get it going. Now I have the inspiration to pick it up seriously.
I used to own the same model mandolin as yours- a late 70s early 80s Washburn M3WS- made in Japan. Ths is the first time I've ever seen another! Nice mandolin and pretty well made for the era. I only sold sold mine this year. Good video too! Thanks.
Hey that's cool. Yeah, its' been an awesome mando for what I paid for it. I just recently got a Northfield, which has quickly become my favorite, but I'll be hanging on to the Washburn. I still dig its tone.
Yaaaassss! Props gotta come from somewhere. Only makes sense to hit up my chain-smoking wife (it's quite possible that she's never touched a cig in her life...I'll have to ask her.) Happy New Year, Ton!
Absolutely! Rock's new dress code! I mean flannel has been done...but khakis? Could happen. Hope you guys had a Merry Christmas, Olivia. Merry New Year too!
@@heypete1827 yeah, Beto Guedes is great. I highly recommend checking out some of his music. I love the way he uses electric mandolin in songs like “Maria Solidária” and “Tesouro da Juventude”. He also contributed to a lot of songs in Milton Nascimento’s catalogue such as “Promessas do Sol” and “Paixão e Fé”. One of my favorite artists from my beloved Brazil.
Mate that was AWESOME!! I rarely comment on videos but I just had to say something! The amount of effort you put in is amazing! It’s funny, it sounds great and I’ll be back to watch again in the near future! Well done my friend!!
Haha. Good call. I never thought that I'd like the dull "thud" that the mando case makes. I'll probably use that again sometime. As for the vocals...I'M SO SORRY!😁
Oh my god...why haven't I seen your site before???? You seem, no you ARE having so much fun. Do you take requests as I have a song that I feel is perfect for mando but don't quite have the the skills to knock it off yet? Wild West End by Dire Straits...I only hear a mando in the main hook although I love the open G guitar tuning. PS Can you also send me some of the 'stuff' you are on......?
Haha! Thanks, Mark. It is fun. Mando is really fun for me. I'll have to give that song a listen. Also...If I'm on something, I guess it's mostly sugar. 🤠
My 10 year old son wants to know why you chose a headband over an afro for Jimmy's song! Thanks for facilitating the opportunity to listen to these songs with my boys, comparing your version with one by the original artists. We even touched on RunDMC. PS The first two chords of "brown sugar" sounds like one of your songs maybe Canned Goods, same two cords?
Haha. I didn't pre-plan too much. Plus I only had access to the one wig. Glad you're having "the school of rock" at your house. Hope you had a merry Christmas, ET. Have a happy New Year.
Thanks, Cheyenne. It's a Washburn mandolin, and I guess I've never known much more than that. It says M-3S-SB on the label inside. I've had it since the late 80s. Obviously it has a center sound hole which lends to its mellow sound. F-hole mandolins have a little bit more of a "thacky" sound which is also really nice. Thanks for watching the video. Cheers!
Im new at the mandolin,,,picked it up after retirement, so old dog new tricks is a thing…THIS is incredible!!! I tried slowing it down to figure out what you are doing, especially LaGrange, but do you have it written down anywhere so i can study it? Or possibly a zoom lesson if that is a possibility…i REALLY want to learn some of these. Thanks!
Hi friend. That's awesome. I might be able to make some videos of me walking folks through these. I'll see if I can carve out some time. Thanks for letting me know that this is helpful to you. That's helpful to me.
This was great! I’ve been playing violin for a bit but want to start learning mandolin as well. Do you learn these by ear? Or is there a good resource for sheet music?
Thanks, Ronnie. I am an ear learner, so I don't really have any sheet music resources to direct you too. Definitely give mandolin a try. It's a great little instrument. Packs small...sounds big.
I have been considering getting a mandolin because they are awesome, but have been struggling to find tabs for them, do you have any recommendations as to where I could find tabs for the mandolin?
Hi Sofia. Sadly, I don't really. I have seen some pretty cool mandolin RUclips channels that might be good resources though. Otherwise, I'm a big fan of Banjo Ben Clark for learning stuff on banjo and mandolin. Check him out. Great teacher. I didn't learn mandolin from him, but I did learn a lot of banjo stuff from his videos and tabs.
Are those the same hand shapes as if it were played on the guitar or are you just really familiar with the instrument? Some friends and I plan on going to travel Europe and asia next year and I plan on picking one up as I'm interested in getting a string instrument and it seems like it will be an easier one to travel with. Anyway, keep on rocking!!
Hi. It's different on the mandolin than it is on the guitar. The mandolin is tuned like a violin. Mandolin is fun to travel with though. Definitely packs smaller than a guitar.
@@WN2W The basics are pretty easy. You can learn the open chords pretty quickly and play a lot of songs with those. After that, like any instrument, it's all dependent on how much practice you can give the instrument. It's a fun instrument though, and it sounds cool. I love it.
Awesome man. When I was playing mandolin in an Irish punk band back in the day, my warmups were always "Sweet Child of Mine" and "Are you gonna go my way"
Rock on!
This is great on so many levels! The rhythm parts, pseudo-scat singing, costumes, and of course the killer riffs. Subscribed!
Thanks friend. Cheeers to you!
I've been looking for exactly this! Starting on my mandolin journey because I love the instrument but rock and roll is my genre! Thank you!
Hey cool! I love bluegrass too, but rock is maybe a little bit more my thing on the mandolin. Glad you're starting. You'll have fun.
Love the vocals! Its like if the Sims were singing covers lololol
You rule! Love the dad vibe!
Haha I can tell you had fun with this video. I loved watching!
Totally fun. Thanks for watching.
С удовольствием посмотрел ваш маленький концерт, отыгранный с большой душой. Спасибо.🎉❤
Thanks, friend.

Fantastic. Loved the "Walk This Way" vocal! 😀👍
Haha. Thanks. Cheers.
Absolutly awesome! Sir I salute you!
I stumbled upon this and it is a very pleasant surprise. I'm always looking for a different way to play my mandolin. Thanks for posting.
Thanks, friend. I appreciate it. Cheers to you!
I thought smoke on the water was badass but then came black dog😳 I didn’t know I needed that

Hey Pete! Great job. It's amazing the range of music that you get out of your mandolin.
Thanks, man. Hope you had a Merry Christmas. Have a happy new year.

You're fantastic. Absolute creative mandolin genius.
Haha. No. But thanks, friend.
That is the most entertaining video!
Hey! Thanks, friend. I appreciate it!
Man, you’re so cool…. 😎😎😎 These are awesome. We’ll-done, sir!
Thanks, Michael. Have a Merry New Year!
The khaki and flannel versions we didn’t know we needed 👍🏻

I was looking after songs like “Choveu” by Beto Guedes that incorporates Mandolin as a prominent instrument in a progressive rock/folk composition.
Awesome!!!

Now, Stux's Boat on the River
This is art! I've started learning a couple months ago. Any tip on where to find chords and sheet music for rock music and these riffs?
Thanks friend. I might post some tutorials if I get time. I don't really know where to find sheet music for this stuff though.
you'd certainly make a lot of people happy :)@@heypete1827

Funny. And good.
I enjoyed the playing even though I got a strong whiff of taking the piss. 😄

Well, not to long to get the basics, but I've been playing for 30 years I guess.

Hi friend. Perhaps if I can find the time. Thanks for watching.
This is really terrific but you have been banned from every guitar store known to man for playing that second riff
Haha. Yeah. I was really rolling the dice. Might be more forgivable on a mando. 🤷♀
Play whole song man. Need some good music to learn sick of bluegrass songs. By way I love your Aerosmith impression and pinball wizard
Haha. Thanks, pablo. Pinball Wizard is one of my favs. Someday I'll try to post the whole song.
We need tabs.
Yeah, me too.
