You guys are mastering the art of catching these Northern California cows. I’ve worked on sport boats in San Diego so I’ve had my share of tuna, but I still wanna get one of these giants close to home.
Thanks Avery we are trying to master it! Haha we have the madmacs down. We really want to try to kite up here. We have been lucky how close to home they are. I heard down there they are pretty far offshore right now?
That is so awesome. So happy for you guys. You guys are killing it this year. This almost makes me want to move back to Cali, I said almost! But would make a great vacation trip in the future. Keep up the great work boys.
I had to contain myself from commenting during the playback. I'm constantly stopping to comment 3 or 4 times. That said, Cheese and Crackers!!! What a hall. 1st, congratulations to the boys who own the boat (I already forgot their names) for getting some tuna on their boat before the end of the year. 2nd, the video work has been stellar. You really have nailed down what's important to keep and what you should edit out. Great video quality all around. I like the multiple video shots from different perspectives. Very, very cool. I can't get enough of your videos boys, keep up the good work.
Thanks for sharing another tuna trip. I have learned a lot about fishing strategy from both of you guys! Here are a few ideas for future instruction: when to use ropes to hold the rod instead of a gunwale road holder; are tuna biting the furthest line or does madmacs color seem like the dominant factor; and why did you switch from an inboard to outboard motor?
That’s awesome! Thanks man for the feedback. We will keep will keep that in mind for the future videos. On this day, the fish bit every color and every rod in the. The water whether is was close or far. It seems the far rod tend to get bit the most for us. We have an inboard outboard conversion coming soon!
So we have had two mad macs catch the kill bag, but never punctured the bag, usually if a hooks catches the force from the fish usually pulls mad Mac out of the fishes mouth first.
INSANE is right! Any tips on how to keep the trolling rigs from tangling with each other? We tried last week for the first time out Bodega with only two rods out and got them tangled while trolling. No fish this time, but hopefully we'll figure it out soon!
It definitely was! I would make sure your rods are spread out enough from each other, at least 200 feet and set one rod back at a time initially. I would also try not to turn too sharp on your turns.
The aluminum piece we fought the fish on? Yeah it’s super helpful! Charlie custom made those for his boat, they are really nice. Give Hicks marine fab a call if you want something similar for your boat if you are in the area he can help you out.
🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 you guys are dope !! Should be running these views in no time!!! Cha cha chinnngggggg.$$$$ You guys offloading @ HMB with that Crane.. looking like should be ILLIST TUNA NORCAL EDITION…
man I would kill to get on these bluefin, is there a forum or channel for the active spot locations?(understood if you dont answer that haha) loving the videos guys, keep it up!
Thanks for watching man. I don’t know if there is a channel on RUclips for locations. If you have Facebook there are a few norcal tuna pages that guys actively write reports and occasionally state where to look for them. For us, everything is constantly changing and by the time we film and edit a video, that location report wouldn’t be useful since the fish move around. I would check facebook!
We haven’t yet.. I mean we tried with reels that aren’t meant for casting plugs and could never cast far enough without a backlash. We got new reels for casting and we are set to try it out this year. We are pumped!
Haha it definitely beats up your right arm after a good day of tuna. We have ran the 200s and really liked them, we have heard of guys using the 240s and having great success as well.
@@DDFishingCo wow. so your company just charters fishing and not in the business of commercial fishing? fetching 20 a pound at 200lbs is 4k hit assuming one can do 3 of those a week, you're talking about 624,000 gross. not bad pay for 3-4 days a week if fishing
When you put it that way it sounds pretty appealing haha. We are looking into this year, it’s such a new thing in this area. The bluefin haven’t roamed these waters until recently.
This is a good point Danny, at this point and as of lately we have been bringing people out with us that can take the fish home as our freezers are pretty stacked. Luckily on a day like this and having 2 guys that haven’t been able to get out for tuna yet, it works out that we aren’t personally coming home with 4 fish. It’s pretty tough to release these fish with how we fish them.
I fished with Pat up in Alaska with Dave Duncan and Sons! Thought I recognized him! Knew he went out and got one but didn’t realize it was with you guys until I watched the video!
In some of our other videos we have tried, there’s a few scenes pulling up on foamers and breezers. We don’t have the right gear for casting. We back lashed and couldn’t get where we wanted to with our casts. We are going to invest in casting setups. On this trip, at the end of the night we tried night jigging with no success. We want to get out there and try some new stuff, working on making the investments in the right gear.
That didn’t look boring to me. I have caught them on a popper before, but I haven’t been able to get them to hit when the there is a lot of bait in the water.
The fish we are holding up in the thumbnail is the second fish, the first was somewhere in the range, it was so fast cause we dropped rods back in the water right away, it could have been a little more it could have been a little less. In the future we are going to start measuring them .
Thanks man, it was an awesome day! We typically burn these fish in as fast as we can, our farthest rods are around 1000 feet behind the boat so we try to utilize the the boat and the rod as much as we can to get them in quick. But if it was a casting rod or jigging rod it would be different story forsure.

Perfect boat for this 👍

So cool, great work guys. Where did you get the cool "rod stand/support" that you mounted on the rail? Genius.
Thanks man! Charlie at Hick Marine Fabrication, he built that whole boat!
Another awesome video

Every time y'all bring a fish into the boat I worry for the kill bag. How often do you guys get hooks/gaf into the kill bag?

Best BFT guys in the NorCal … Nice work men … as usual
Thanks man, we appreciate it! Thanks for watching 😂
How freaking fast are you trolling.. Thinking I'm waiting for a wahoo.. Bad ass
Hi speed bluefin trolling it’s wild!! We haven’t got the chance to go for wahoo but it’s not as fast! We are going around 11-13knots
Amazing !!!!! Tight lines !!!!

What numbers are you going to out of Bodega Bay?
Come on guys leave me some fish. Good job.😮

Where do you guys launch out of?
We launch out of various ports based on sst and cloro charts. Halfmoon bay and bodega bay mostly.
Have you guys tried top water?
We haven’t yet.. I mean we tried with reels that aren’t meant for casting plugs and could never cast far enough without a backlash. We got new reels for casting and we are set to try it out this year. We are pumped!
Wow
What Line do you use for Leader Material?
What Knot do you tie it to the Braid with?

In this video we talk about the line at 5:00 minutes
Oh my aching muscles, just watching you reel in those monsters. What size Madmacs works best?
Haha it definitely beats up your right arm after a good day of tuna. We have ran the 200s and really liked them, we have heard of guys using the 240s and having great success as well.
How far offshore are you guys?
In this video, maybe 30ish miles? It’s been different each time we go. There was a time this year we went 75 miles out.
how much does 1 of those big blue fin tunas bring in cash wise?
I’m not sure of the exact price since we don’t sell them, but I see bluefin tuna sell online for 20-30dollars a pound.

You can broil it, bake it,fry it ,... there's garlic fish, lemon fish, curried fish ,fish cakes, fish soup,Bubba Gump fish😅
How fast are you trolling?!
Anywhere from 10-16mph
Spot on!👊🏻🇺🇸👊🏻
Thanks man! 👍
How fast did you troll?
It’s all over the place but anywhere from 11-16ish mph
Is that Pat in the video?
Yes it is!
I fished with Pat up in Alaska with Dave Duncan and Sons! Thought I recognized him! Knew he went out and got one but didn’t realize it was with you guys until I watched the video!
That’s crazy man, small world!! Pretty cool
If you fish one every day you can make more than doctors like 4x
If you are dedicated you could make a good income!
Trolling is boring, why don't you try something different like throwing poppers or hardbaits at the foamers?

Yeah OK boring ha! 😂
Not even boring😅🎣
Not 130
