  • In this video I build a ladder rack for my Suzuki Carry 4x4 Kei truck. I use my M600 Rogue Fab bender to bend most of the tubing for this project. Other tools used are my Langmuir system’s crossfire pro CNC table and my Yeswelder 205 DS. Excellent tools that make this job much nicer.
I plan to build a canvas cover for it so i can do some camping.
This is the Crossfire CNC plasma table from Langmuir systems.

So nice to here ‘original’ music while watch a soothing build. Mike, I can’t tell you how many times I end up spending money on another tool after watching your videos. The dimple dies have been on my short list for years, but they are pricey. I just added them to my Black Friday wish list. Every year I buy something from SWAG on his once a year sale day. Ladder rack came out exceptional. 👍👍😎👍👍 Can’t wait for the next Festiva episode 😁

Basically he was an engineer working a full time job, but was making useful tools on the side at home, he started getting more requests for bandsaw stands and other stuff, he kept at it and before long he was working for himself engineering more products and started his own business. 🙂

This reminds me of back when I was active in the 4x4 crowd. There was a guy in our club that would weld up steps and bumpers for 4x4’s that were made of round tubing, but he welded them up tight and fitted them with air compressor fittings so they could double as air pressure tanks for the little compressors we took on the trails.

It certainly takes the anxiety out of starting new projects for someone like me, who gets bogged down in the details to the point of being too anxious to even start. Plus, the fact that you use affordable tools certainly shows that you don’t need the most expensive equipment on the market to do a good job. Also, props to your camera person!

I am loving those dimple dies. That’s next on my list. Love the look it gives and like Mike stated. The strength. The same way bead rolling gives strength to straight panels. Awesome as always. I just got my bender two weeks ago. I’m looking forward to using it now 😁

She saw me altering a bicycle and wanted to know how. Now she's pretty good for a little girl! LOL! She came up to me and said one of her friends was bragging about falling off her bike and skinning up her knee. She told her friend that she got this burn from welding up hers!

I'd love to say that the quality of that rack is factory built, but that'd be a DAMNED insult to your build. Freaking top job on this one Mike, superb. Indeed, you've come a long way, and it's not just the tools that got better, i've seen plenty of shops built with money that forked out subpar quality work.
As a recommendation for a sewing machine, maybe be on a lookout for a Sailrite Ultrafeed LSZ-1. It ain't cheap, but the quality is there, and it's a stout machine. Adam Savage just got one and he has a few projects using it (you can trust his opinion on the machine, and you can also see him push it). I have an older LS-1 and it's a very capable machine. FYI, these are machines made to sew sail material, so nothing like your average Singer or common grade Brother machines.

Also, love the idea of cutting and repurposing the chain links for tie downs. I’ve tried bending 1/4 and 3/8” rod in the past for the same purpose but your idea is much more efficient. That rack really fits in well, and looks awesome doing so.If you weren't already so sandwiched for time, you could do well selling "Bolt In Kits"with that.Well done!(I've been wanting 1 of those trucks for at least 3 years, and that rack would be the first addition)

Please don’t put smaller tires on it. It looks so cool with the current ones.

Great little episode Mike. I bought the Fein Chop saw after watching your review a few years ago and I have used it so much for some huge projects and it's absolutely brilliant. I dulled the blade on some stainless and actually resharpened it with angle grinder and it's been great ever since. Byron. Australia.

Man, you do such great content. I was thinking a ladder rack on a Kai truck would be boring. Nope. Loved watching the process. You do great work.

There's a military supply joint down by fife that always has a bunch of those military trailers and parts. One of the most common unused parts were the bows and canvas cover. It was a very cool design that let you cover just a portion or the whole bed. I think that the specs are close enough that you might want to look into modifying one of those. It might not even require modification unless you want a very tailored fit. Either way, it might be the cheapest way to get raw materials. Plus that waxed denim that they used is fantastic, last forever

Very nice. I was going to suggest that there should be a low area in the middle so a fork lift can load stuff on top, then I realized anything that needs a fork lift isn't going on top of that truck!

A PFAFF 129 will do incredibly well for you. Might be in the $400-600 range, but it'll outlive you and keep value forever if you take care of it.
