      @@amsimons29 I was wondering if you would recognize that part of the video when I drove past your place! We have made it through Karpen rd on my original street tires and no lift. Now that the truck has a 2” lift and the Forceum MT08 tires it’s opened up a lot more places that I can take the truck & the do awesome in the snow. They are great trucks man! Out of all the other brands the Honda cab and interior felt the best to me. Hi! I usually use Mikes shop if I’m trying to stay out of the rain (it rains a lot here) or do most of my welding/projects outside in good weather. We also have weekend access to a nice heated double bay shop space at the company I work for. That space was crucial for the Dodge camper build because it had high ceilings and most of the build was done in the winter. We are currently building mini campers for the Kei trucks so I will have some shots of that space when I do the build video but my setup is pretty simple. I typically just have my main tool set, a small welder, grinder and belt sander, if I need to use a plasma cutter or brake bender I jump into Mikes shop . Thanks for watching and I will try to include more of that in future videos. Cheers! 👍

    Which "KEI TRUCK" is better for Highway traffic?
    Which make has better fuel milage?

    • @OlympicOverland
      @OlympicOverland  2 года назад +1

      So far my Honda seems to get better mileage but Mike put a different carburetor with a manual choke on his Carry and changed the jetting so that might be the difference. They are both 4 speed trucks with 23” diameter tires so highway performance is pretty equal between the 2. Most 5 speed trucks would be pretty good for highway use but I like the slightly lower gearing for pairing with a bit larger diameter tire. Overall both trucks are really comparable and it just boils down to cab feel and how you want your 4wd system to operate. The Acty is full time 4wd but can be switched to 2wd under the truck on the side of the transmission if needed (but not necessary for road use) and the Carry has a transfer case with a front axle engagement button so you can engage 4wd without turning locking hubs. 👍

    • @OlympicOverland
      @OlympicOverland  2 года назад +1

      Thanks man! Some things to check on the Acty when you go tomorrow:
      - CV joints, looks for cracks or torn boots, listen for clicking sounds when turning sharp.
      - check the oil and make sure it doesn’t look milky, also check the coolant and look for sludge around the radiator cap ( both possible sign of a leaky head gasket.
      - make sure the rear diff lock works. It will only operate in UL 1st and UL reverse. Jack the truck up and make sure both rear wheels turn when diff lock is engaged or get the truck on a some uneven ground or turn side to side on loose terrain to see if both rear wheels seem to scrape or bind a bit on sharp turn will indicate that it’s engaging. Also green light on dash will come on.
      - Check the coolant overflow tank for cracks, these can get brittle but at least replacement tanks are easy to get and cheap.
      Good luck!

    I love your videos! Your camping spots make me wish you’d geotag them. But, be careful. I think in Washington, driving and or riding in a riverbed is called a hydraulics violation under the RCW. Not my business but I’ve heard horror stories from my logger friends.

      Thanks Harley! Lots of great spots out here and we are always finding new places. Any water crossing that we do is typically on old logging grades/skidder trails that are now 4x4 or UTV use but definitely don’t want any tickets 😁🤞

    Whats up! I just found your channel and have been hooked!! I was wondering if you wouldnt mind answering a couple questions for me … in looking into getting a kei truck or van as a daily , i just worry about practicality of it. Do you guys use yours for more then just trips? Whats the top speed on these (comfortably) and how do they manage on the highway? I would be using it primarily for commuting to work and will be driving 50-60ish miles early early mornings with minimal traffic. how easily accessible are parts? Will simple tasks like oil changes be hard because i cant find an oil filter for it?
    Ive been doing some research of my own on forums but its be nice to hear from you Haha thanks for your help!

    • @OlympicOverland
      @OlympicOverland  Год назад

      Hi, I do a 60 mile highway commute with mine occasionally and it’s a 10 mile highway drive to just get to town for groceries so it does a fair amount of 55-60mph driving. There are definitely better commuters out there so I would test drive a few to know what you are getting into first. As far as usefulness goes, the truck is one of the most versatile that I have owned. We cut and haul firewood in places my full size Dodge could never go. It handles all of our dump run and hauling need, it’s my go to truck for moving mountain bikes or motorcycles. Is super nimble in town for running errands and easy to park. It’s also great off-road with the locking rear differential, low gearing and 4wd, we use it on UTV trails often, it’s also the best snow vehicle I’ve owned (better than my 2 Subaru’s). Parts are fairly easy to find if you don’t mind ordering them. eBay has oil filters and random tuneup stuff, places like Yokohama Motors can source harder to find things for you in Japan. There are also a number of importers and small parts houses carrying items now too and a couple of places in the U.S. that offer used parts as well. There are definitely better choices for daily Highway driven vehicles but it just depends on how you will use the truck overall. My trucks does a lot of highway driving because of the area that I live and it doesn’t bother me but before you buy one go do some test drives to know if they are right for you. Good luck man! 👌

      They are both very comparable off road. We have similar lift heights and the same tires so it’s a really good comparison. I don’t think you could go wrong with either truck but I prefer the cab feel, 4wd system and design of the Honda and would definitely buy another Acty Attack if anything ever happens to mine.

    Hello, how does the motor behave at altitude?

    • @OlympicOverland
      @OlympicOverland  Год назад

      Both of these trucks have carburetors and surprisingly do fine at elevation. I haven’t had any issues from sea level to 6000’, they just seem to start and operate as usual in all conditions that we have been in with the trucks. I have driven fuel injected Kei trucks as well but the carburetors haven’t been an issue and power is comparable to EFI.

    Hey where did you get your wheels and tires?

    • @OlympicOverland
      @OlympicOverland  2 года назад +1

      Hi, my wheels are 13 steelies from an early 90’s Honda Civic and tires are Forceum MT08 165/80/r13 8 ply tires. I talk about them a bit in one of my other videos but it’s a great setup that doesn’t require wheel spacers and works great with a 2” lift.

      @@jonathancrincoli6263 they have road noise that’s pretty comparable to any other MT tire that I’ve used over the years.
