- Опубликовано: 18 окт 2024
- This is part 2 of buying a 1990 JDM Suzuki Carry 4WD Kei mini truck.
In this video I will cover installing a timing belt, water pump and some seals, I will also be modifying the exhaust system. In part 1 I cover buying the truck, fixing some carb problems, vacuum leaks and starting on some cooling repairs.
The next video I will be posting is Kei truck shopping with my brother, we will be looking at a few trucks and possibly a van so keep an eye out for that video!
Thanks for watching

Hey Mike are the pedals reversed on the right hand drives?
@@BillyTpower The pedals are the same as all vehicles. Only difference is you drive on the right, shift on the left and your turn signal and wiper levers are opposite. 👍
@@Mikefestiva great thanks for the fast response.
Hey! Im the son of the previous owner just wanted to say glad it went to a good owner I worked a bit on it I’m not writing this for fame or for clout your videos are cool and well edited! Keep up the good work.
Thank you! I’m very happy with it so far and you guys did a great job! Thanks for watching 👍
@@Mikefestiva your very welcome! :)
@@Mikefestiva Love these mini 4x4 trucks, have seen some really heavily modified ones including portal axles!! Was always under the impression these mini 4x4 trucks were not road legal in the States, obviously l'm wrong!
He really stepped into a great base to start with ..Love the paint. tires and lift, front bumper, winch, Hats off to the previous owner. I have tried to copy a lot of this minus the Red headliner and door pads in my 96 DD51B dump, tell Pops great job !!
@@bobrauschenbach4347 yeah! Means a whole lot!
Great video with attention to detail and getting those "impossible" shots of the water pump timing belt change out. Awesome, thank you!
It WOULD be easy for people to search if you put in the description what you do like water pump replacement....
Evo
does my heart good to see a guy make something quieter, and go for tires close to stock. you must be a genius.
at least you can stay DRY AND WARM in the Suzi unlike a side by side 👍👍👍👍
These little trucks are in a class of their own and I only see them getting more popular! Love this build.
They are a lot of fun! Well built trucks 🙂👍
I have a 95 carry. Last of the bug eye. This fills my heart with joy.
Right on 👍 I love the round headlights 🙂
Awesome lil truck it was well worth the investment...can hardly wait til see what you build for it all ..
It’s so good looking! 😁
The tires gives it a cool look but usability is probably more important.
And let’s give some love to the camera guy you used for some of this, stable movements and getting all the important bits in the shot… respect! 😁👍🏻
Great little workhorse now luv that you went the sensible route with your mods
Your mechanical diagnostic ability is incredible to watch! Good videoes!
Thank you Edward!!
Came from MCM's Kei Truck Turbo, was not disappointed. Thanks for showing us.
MCM? What's that?

I like the calming music over your wrenching- much nicer that the stream of cursing, screaming, and tears I get over here.
Pretty proud you bought that parts from my country beautiful little truck, we use them here as workhorses great reliable truck
It’s an awesome machine 👍
Awesome little truck, really diggin the front bumper
Awesome little truck, looks super fun and useful
That truck is absolutely fantastic, I love it , I will dream about owning one tonight. What a brilliant job you have done exceptional. Thank you for the pure viewing pleasure.
Regards Gareth Wiltshire UK. Gratitude. Quality. Respect.
thanks Gary!!
What a fun little vehicle! I can definitely see how it eventually got the better of you. I'd love to have one myself. Great content as always. Thanks!
It’s been pretty awesome 👍
In Japan, there is a vehicle inspection system, so there is a limit to remodeling in the backyard. You have a good understanding of the structure of the car and enjoy finishing the light truck well. Watching videos is fun. Light tigers are vulnerable to deformation due to collisions, so please be careful and enjoy.
Love the style and features of this little ripper !
Electric fan is a great upgrade !
Engine work looks like it's pretty hard on your back though.
One big way this kills a side by side is if it rains, which happens a lot in your area !
The scenery where you live is spectacular !
I myself always wanted one of them too. They look like alot of FUN.....Your got All The Bugs worked out of it. I guess I will have to look a little harder for one myself..LOL..Great Video Mike. Beautiful Country out Your way also. Thank You for sharing it with us....
Right on thanks Thomas! It’s a great little machine 👍
Hey Mr. festiva. I've been thoroughly entertained by your channel, and will look forward to the next video about your Suzuki Carry Kei truck. Looks like a lot of fun, and what helps is that you're so handy with doing all the work yourself. What makes this enjoyable is how you meticulously illustrate what you're doing, and you have lots of patience. I live in the Central Valley in Cali, and would to find a gem like this. I travel to Mexico, and I've seen a vehicle made by Hino, which I am trying to get. But for the time being, I'll keep looking at your channel. Thanks for your channel.
Thanks for watching 👍
Mike, I had an old Subaru Justy, and it had a 1.3l engine producing 50 HP, and it was a cast iron block 3 cylinder engine. I used tractor mufflers on it as the OEM was $80. It actually was quieter than the factory muffler. I miss that little car.
I think I paid $24 for my mufflers.
My car had 12" tires, and I wound up using commercial tires as replacement 12" car tires became rarer over time.
Sounds like you most likely picked the right radiator, but something to keep in mind is I have one in mine out of the van version the previous owner installed that is probably 50% larger than the original, I have trouble getting heat in the winter and I even remove the fan during the cold months. Also the rack is a must! I've found that these truck are incredibly handy for light bulky loads from the hardware store, even better for it than my Ranger! With the exception of getting stuck talking to people about the truck on the way in and out 😆

Beautiful backroads. ❤️ Glad you got Ruthie all fixed up, and she's getting some good use. 👍🏻
I been trying to give up you tube, but Mike when I see ya vids, I love your style and professionalism Sir and cannot keep away, so thanks I will always watch. Mike Festiva is the Boss
That’s awesome to hear! 👍
Amazing little vehicle. Genuinely surprised that the little thing made it up the big hill at the end. Quite a steel grade and took it no bother. Found a little gem I think. Be happy to follow you on this journey.
Been looking for a good one of these kei for 15 years myself. Good score. Thanks for all the effort you put in the production of incredible content.
Appreciate your comment
What a cool little 4x4!
Not sure if you can compare a modern side by side's suspension to a 30 year old suzuki carry which was projected for city use and tiny tires. You could revise what you have on there, some lift kits are better than others although the 'hop' 'skip' i get in my one is down to the solid rear axle i believe - but i'm no expert. I do prefer it to a side by side any day!! I bought mine in Chile, a van version. Built it out with a couch/bed and hit the road. Crossed the atacama desert, up and over the Los Andes several times. Over 15,000 miles traveled around South America. Love it. Met my wife with it too! Its even got a name.. Bandito!
I was stationed in Japan from1970 thru 1973. I owned a Suzuki Mini truck, and a Honda mini truck. I loved them both. They would go anywhere. Just 2 wheel drive, but tough little trucks.
Maine has been canceling registration for JDM vehicles. They say they do not pass US regs for smog/safety. Hope your state doesn't come after you. If they do, fight it! 😎
Ga. won't register them either, but I stay off the fast roads anyway and the law doesn't hassle me at all.
Could also be exempt in some states if they are at least 25 years old I think. Doubt it will be a problem for Mike
Heard about that! It's sad to see that happening... I'm next door, in NH.
Want to get one for my sister (misses her Suzuki Samurai from back in the day)
Contact me if you want to talk... 👍
I have a suzuki 12valve here in the philippines and it been working with me for 19 years .. thank you for your videos..
I could make a good use of a truck like that!! Such a blessing to live in the land of oportunities.
Neat little truck, you live in a beautiful area
The longer you have it, more and more you're going to wonder how you did without one for so long. Love my '98 Daihatsu Hijet, it is fuel inj., 4x4, 5 spd., low and high range, diff-lock, w/air, and it had 27,000 kil. when purchased. It has absolutely no rust and it already had big rims and tires, I've put the timing belt, clutch, and a distributer (the weights came apart inside) . I have a little over 50,000 on it now, and I paid $5600 from an individual in KY. 7 years ago, hope you have as good luck as I have had.
Awesome Charles 👍
Darn, chief, your videos are addictive.
Thanks for the inspiration and keep on trucking!
Really cool to see it out on some muddy backroads. Surprisingly good, I was expecting far less from it!
That exhaust is SO much better... In the previous vid, the exhaust sound inside the cabin rattled my subwoofer... Now it doesn't. Good stuff.
Thanks for checking out my videos 🙂👍 I really appreciate it!
This is way cooler than any side by side out there! Can't wait to see what's next!
Right on thanks Rick
As a new Jimny owner i LOVE these zooks! Really gonna get me one of these asap! Good video to bud!
Thanks buddy 👍 I have zero regrets buying mine!
My brother also bought one after I bought my Suzuki Carry.
Here’s a video of us going to buy his 👍 ruclips.net/video/ZieKrX7I9i8/видео.html
I'm so glad to see my country's truck in us!! soo cool!
Thanks 😊 I really like these Kei trucks 👍
Have you seen my camper I built for my Suzuki carry?
@@Mikefestivayes! that's amazing!
What a neat little truck. Looking forward to seeing progress on what You do with it.
A very neat little truck. It looks like it is easy to work on, get's great gas economy, and just plain fun to drive. If I had one I would keep it until it rotted away.
2:15 you should have exclaimed FRAGILE! It's from Italy! 2 weeks ago you made me WANT one of these. Tonight, I NEED one of these cool little trucks.
When I was young, I repaired many Japanese car engines such as this F6A, but I was surprised to see the video. As far as I can see the handling of the contributor Festiva, it is on par with a professional. You're not an ordinary person. The carburetor repair was professional as well. It's a rupture of the upper tank of the radiator, but maybe the thermostat is not normal. It may be good to remove it without using the thermostat.
No side by side will last as long as your k truck. These are what I wish our Kawasaki mule had, heat windows street legal bigger bed etc. I would suggest keeping it unless you want speed. Sxs per mile cost a lot to drive even our 3010 4x4 mule breaks down a lot.
Great videos Mike, I enjoy your channel.
That would also be a very good hunting rig. I got the bug now and am starting to look for one.
Love how you really put it to the test on-road ad off-road. I would like one too, im looking forward to more videos!
I have a 2000 Suzuki Carry. Almost daily driver, snow plow, beerstore, lumberstore, beerstore
One of those would be awesome for throwing some fishing gear in the back and hitting the logging roads. I want one.
What a beautiful area, really nice footage driving around at the end.
Thanks 😊 I have been really enjoying this little truck! I’m really impressed with how good this machine does around my property, I bet a dump bed would be awesome to own. Take care
I laughed when I saw the tiny spring on the timing belt idler! For as weight-forward as that thing is, it really climbed on the hills. Impressive.
I have a completely stock 1990 Suzuki Carry 4x4 like yours, 1st owner in the US. After I bought it... The water pump makes a racket, radiator lost all the coolant and it idles fast. I bought the water pump etc., some front end parts and a repair manual. I think I should get a timimg belt and related parts for that. Love the truck and will probably keep it completely stock except for maybe a winch and radio.
Thanks.
Great little truck you found there, seems being handy on the back-roads cruising along.
You live in a beautiful part of the country, MIke! Thanks for sharing more info about your Suzuki--great tutorial. Looking forward to more!
Awesome thanks for watching!
OMG... so envious! I live in Thailand and I see these types of trucks and vans all the time-and I always WANT ONE! But it would just be impractical living in Bangkok. Thai drivers are flat-out nuts. BUT! If I ever move back to Washington I am buying one. I had no idea they came as 4x4’s! So cool! 😊👍
Love mini trucks and vans I have both saving for a third
I've been looking at side by sides for myself and really was't matching what I wanted to do with it, then saw someone with one of those little trucks and hey that's it prefect for my use, now I'm looking for one.
The only thing it needs now is a MotoCheez key tag! Sweet little truck.
kei track is the soul of Japan
It is a crystal of technology😄🚘

I think you made a good investment. Thanks for sharing!!
Neat little truck. I once had a Suzuki "Mighty Boy" Now that was small.
I have wanted one for years. I'm making notes on everything you do haha
Watching this makes me miss my 2000 Chevy tracker, I loved that tracker.
Hey Chris those trackers are good machines! I have a 93 sidekick, it’s awesome off road 👍 I have a few videos on that machine on my RUclips channel.
@@Mikefestiva I'll have to check them out thanks but the Kei trucks are cool machines to.
👍👌👏 Congrats, your living in a lush paradise.
Best regards, luck and health to all of you.
That hing is ADORABLE! Bring forth the Suzuki Jimny to the USA!
Thanks for checking out my new video Joe! I definitely wish Suzuki would start importing them, I think after the bogus consumer reports BS Suzuki unfortunately lost sales in the USA and stopped selling anymore in the US after the early 2000.
Cool little truck, would make a great city delivery.
Really cool truck, brother.
Thats a cool little rig Mike. Wish I had one for toolin' around.
That little truck is perfect for them back roads! It looks like fun!
I love these trucks! It's one of my dream cars
Tip. When I do timing belts. Make sure the Marks on the pulley, is in line were the belt can be marked. But do two lines as a reference point. Then one on the others. Transfer the lines to the new belt. And it works great. I'm really proud of you. You did good. Have fun in that thing and don't let people borrow it.
Cool man, I lived in Honda CRV in Montana for five months. Just worked fished and hunted with my dog. Great times!
That’s a simple life, good times 🙂👍
What part of Montana?
@@Mikefestiva Kalispell, Columbia falls and the surrounding areas. The CRV is very off road capable in the right hands. Fun rig
That is some beautiful scenery! That little truck is pretty awesome. - Josh in customer service
Right on Thanks Josh!!! 👍
Great truck Mike ! I love it so much. I always wanted one for myself.
Sounds a LOT better, but man, if you hear a stock Carry, it's insane how quiet it is! I love it! Nice fab work as usual Mike! Hope all is good on your end!
Appreciate it!!!
My Hijet still has its stock muffler and you can't hardly hear it run, and I wouldn't trade for a loud muffler.
@@183charlesspiva Yeah man, my carry is whisper quiet I love it!
That cabs here in the philippine are best choice of everyday use transportation. Nice to see foreigs appreciate such asia machine. Japan carry
Nice build. Kei trucks look like fun!
Sich a nice area you live in! Great lil truck, can haul all kinds of materials around and to your property too. And their fun little things ;)
Thank you for helping me make a decision and also for being an excellent content creator !!!
Thanks man I really appreciate it 😊👍
Nice! That job didn't look that bad to do at all. Made it look easy. Great vid.
Really great footage of driving around in the forest 👌 Cool truck. Thanks for posting.
I love these, and have always wanted one I wish you could buy these new in North America it would be so convenient
Mike, thank you for another awesome video! Keep up the great work!
Mike you do an excellent job on videos !!!! Thank you from an old guy that appreciates good quality work !!!!
Thanks I really appreciate it 🙂👍
i miss my mini truck, theyre popular here in the philippines,it is used for small businesses for delivery, and farm use, very reliable vehicle, planning to get another one..😁
This thing is sweet! Reminds me of when I was in the military and we ran Daihatsus all over the place.... . Looks pretty much identical except the front lights. Ours were governed and I figured out how to bypass that annoyance. Easily hit 60 in them which was absolutely terrifying. Also learned you could put one on its side pretty easily
As long as you know what you're doing you're always on the game, nice job very excited to watch your project
Sweet little ride for sure. Make an awesome farm handy rig.
I love these little trucks. I own one at my property in the Philippines. They go anywhere and can haul anything. They call them multi cabs because it’s basically the same frame with either a truck or van body on it. So many options and custom parts it’s crazy lol.
This thing is really cool, will look even better with a nice ladder/materials rack. Great video as always.
09:23 pure love hiding behind a small bush. In front of the garage :)
Hope the owner of the BMW 02 takes good care of that car!
Of course it's gonna rain while you're working on your truck! It's the PNW!
I'd love to have one of these. This would make a great vehicle for hauling wood for my hobby builds and also for selling and delivering projects. It looks like it would make a great primitive camping vehicle.
I live in Sequim and figured you were somewhere on the Peninsula. Love that area of forest you are in...
Haha you are definitely close to me, I’m out west of PA 🙂
Best working Suzuki I’ve ever seen
Good too have a small cappabel offroad vehicle an you protected from the elements and cold outside.
These Kei trucks are too cool!
You'll make a great little truck even better.
