  • FADE IS MORE OF AN UMBRELLA TERM
There are high fades, mid fades, low fades, and even taper fades. Each type has its own characteristics. Let’s break it down:
High Fades: The bald line starts about two or three fingers above the ear and fades quickly into a short length on top. You'll often see high fades with crops, high and tights, and military cuts.
Mid Fades: The bald line starts about one finger above the earlobe and takes place over a wider area. It’s perfect for those undecided between high and low fades.
Low Fades: The bald line starts right at or below the hairline. This fade increases darkness and brings the weightline down.
Choosing the right fade depends on your hair texture and density. Thinner hair might benefit from a lower fade for more shadow, while thick hair works well with mid to high fades to break up density and show more scalp.
Taper Fades: Different from regular fades, taper fades occur only in the temple area on both sides and at the nape of the neck.
When deciding on a fade, consult your barber. Discuss your concerns and desired style. Whether you part your hair to one side or wear it forward or straight back, your barber can help you choose the best fade. If you're unsure of your hair density or texture, don't hesitate to ask your barber-they're there to help you get the best possible haircut.
