Clogging is a very common thing when it comes to gel pens. I would know as when I was a kid gel pens were like the only art supplies I had. Next time when they clog up try blowing on the end of the tube and hitting it against the table for a few times. Oh and doing long strokes in the same direction to avoid separation of pigment. Hope that helps :)
Oh also try to get as much gel to come out to avoid streakiness
And I also forgot about one thing when you color with gel pens be as light handed as possible and try not to curve lines into the paper or else the area won't cover without the use of various layers. As it is a gel pen the ink will come out as long as the tip touches the paper.

Light handed yes! You get so much better coverage and keeps it from looking like his green hair did there before the dark layer.

Another trick i learned is using rubbing alcohol which breaks the clogging of the pen and lets it run smoother too. Least thats what i did when my gel.pens clogged from.school. i let it soak in the rubbing alcohol for 10mins and then started coloring again. Sometimes dipping it for 5 seconds helped during home drawings.

Gels pens aren’t really meant for covering large areas. They perform best when coloring zentangles and zen doodles. I HIGHLY recommend trying this again! With the right gels pens and coloring book it can be very therapeutic! Plus it’s fun to create your own zentangles!

SO GLAD to see you trying out gel pens! It's always been one of my favorites :)
A few tips from a long-time gel pen user:
    1. Patience is a virtue. Gel pens can be persnickety and unpredictable, and work best when taken slowly.
    2. Gel pens are prone to clogging. The construction of (most) of them is conducive to fixing this, however: simply take the cartridge out of the pen and (gently) blow into the back of the ink cartridge, then use a piece of scrap paper to wipe/roll the excess from the tip of the pen.
    3. For that matter, keep a scrap piece handy at all times for testing and occasional de-clogging.
    4. Circles rather than lines. Gel pens, much like regular ink, can produce a streaky effect when applied in lines, but due to the medium's malleability after being applied if you color in (very) small circles you can help to alleviate a great deal of this streaky texture. This can lead to thick layers of ink and the quick depletion of the pens, but allows for very solid color application with little to no texture variance to worry about in the final product.
    5. While gel pens may seem like they would be good for blending with due to the aforementioned malleability, due to the fine points inherent in their application method the end result is often less than satisfying, resulting in more of a swirled or stippled effect at best rather than true blending. If used as an intentional design choice this swirled blending can work, but as a whole gel pens lend themselves much better to cel shaded colors, much as you experienced yourself in doing your pic.
I'm looking forward to seeing you experiment more with the pens in the future! I like your idea of using them in conjunction with your markers, much like you do your colored pencils. Here's hoping we see the results of some of your attempts at this mixed-media approach in the near future :)

I'm really happy you decided to draw Midoriya, because he is one of my favourite characters in Manga and Anime.
I really enjoyed your drawing, for the vibrant colours, how cool they look and above all for all the time you spent! I can only imagine how annoying it was to fill all those areas, above all thinking you were trying to give all the wonderful effects you always realize in your drawings.
So I confirm: it is a very beautiful drawing!
It's really difficult to answer your question...as always. In this situation so stressful, terrifying, the thing I miss the most is the tranquility.
In these days I'm trying to take the best of this situation, the time I'm spending with my family, thinking about the most important values, feelings and things in general, in my life.
But I have to admit I'm missing so much that time in which I didn't feel so helpless!
Thanks for this great drawing and for the message you gave, have a nice day and I really hope you can stay safe with your wife and your lovely bunnies!
    Have a nice day, bye!

The colors in this look amazing, and the glowing streaks on the skin look really cool. I’ve found that most gel pens tend to be water based, so you can actually use a slightly damp brush and smooth and blend the ink on the paper, or even erase with a napkin

Gel pens are the important lesson of finding the right tool for the job. Small characters aren't too bad. Leaving the pens for a break when they act dead to let them recover has helped in the past. I was doing after school childcare at the school so I had an impatient audience watching me try this with Eeyore. The only regret I had was changing blue pens when the first one died with just the ear done. Otherwise boys and girls were all equally interested and eager to try them for coloring too. For those pens though, you have to be okay with streaking in areas. Most of my gel pens died ages ago, but I have a few getting close to 15 to 20 years old. I just glitter and metallic pens in a discounted bible journal kit that I honestly got just for the pens to play with for small details in my planner and to toy around with in my sketchbooks. It's kind of nostalgic more than anything.

Best way I found to return ink flow to a pen: a lighter or candle. I have returned from the dead a many of my favorite pens this way. Candles are better as a lighter can cramp your hand after multiple attempts, or even burn your fingertip if the metal of lighter is now hot from prolonged use.
This is a skill that is quite difficult on its own and takes patience and practice, above all safety due to flames. Why? Because you have sensitive materials with metal and plastic being so close together. This trick applies to all pens with a ballpoint tip, even more so with the glitter pens with the problem being any combination of sediment blocking ink flow delivery- dried ink, paper, larger glitter chunks, eraser, etc. that will stop the ball from rolling and delivering ink. The intent of the candle or lighter is to SLOWLY, heat up the ballpoint, NOT the metal holding the ballpoint (as much- heat transference is inevitable to an extent), and NOT melt the plastic tube of ink inside or the plastic holding the the ballpoint tip (more so for cheap plastic pens).
Short intervals of 5-7 seconds only to the very first time introducing the metal to the flame, then 2-3 second intervals to heat it up enough soften the item preventing the ball from rotating.
(After 2 or 3 times of holding over the flame, check ink delivery on test paper to see if enough heat was introduced to remove the blockage. Apply your lightest possible pressure to the contact between the ballpoint and paper to avoid hemorrhaging ink flow or bending the metal tip of the pen- if too hot.)
If done correctly, the tip will be just warm to hot enough to get the ink flowing again, but do so on a test paper because it depends on the type of ink, with some pens looking like a movie victim bleeding out all 5 liters instantly. Remember that each pen you do this may take less or more heating duration and times held over the flame because each company uses a different plastic grade and ink combination.
IF the TIP and surrounding area of the pen is really HOT, DO NOT use it. let it return to room temperature before testing it and trying again (if ink delivery is still blocked.) Reason being it can bend or even break the tip of the pen, rendering your efforts and your pen completely useless.
Cheers and let me know if you use this successfully, with a thumbs up being for ADCArtAttack to make a tutorial video on this.

One thing I've seen done with gel pens - and I think it'd look amazing if you did them, was instead of filling in, you replace the black outlines with the colours you'd be using for colouring in. For example, Spiderman would be done with blue and red pens, and with white for the eye lines.

two years after the battle : to unclog gelpens you can heat up the ink and little ball in the tip that distribute it by using a mug of hot water. It increases the viscosity of the ink and help to remove the little particles that could clog the ball in the tip ^^

Thanks for another entertaining video. Would like to see you draw and colour some fantasy characters such as Sinbad, Sherlock Holmes, Robin Hood or King Arthur.

heya! here's some gel pen tips!
the pens do tend to clog at the nib because the ink is much thicker that regular, so you can clean it with your finger or on a scrap paper.
and if you use them with markers, do the markers first unless you was the pens to smudge and bleed

ADC the reason why the gel pen is scratchy is because the way you’re holding it, you’re holding it on a angle that’s why it’s scratchy. If you hold it up right it won’t be scratchy. Hope this helped love your work 😁

I miss Michaels Arts and Crafts being open. I'd always stop by on my lunch since it was across the street from work and try out new pens or markers and grab a couple singles, or paints, or art pads, or beads.

    What do I miss most?
    Sad comment time: My Poppop.
He had two forms of leukemia and fell a lot without telling anyone; he had brain bleeding from the falls that sent him to the hospital. We didn't get to visit and say goodbye before he passed.
It might seem like quarantining with family is obnoxious at times, but please don't forget to appreciate the fact that they're with you ❤ much love everyone, be safe!

Try using them on black paper. ;) Also, metallic accents are my favorite way to use these.

I am in awe, I never had the motivation to color with gel pens (just for writing)
Your dedication to using them despite them being so annoying sometimes (and being so scratchy on the paper) is just inspiring! Love the way you layered and used all the different colors adds such dimension to the art (and now I am tempted to start drawing something and color it). Have a great day!!! \(・◡・)/
